mercredi 5 novembre 2025 • Duration 31:40
Read the full show notes here: https://www.draimee.org/boosting-egg-quality-what-we-know-about-nad-and-fertility-with-dr-mark-ratner
I'm honored to be joined by Dr. Mark Ratner, Chief Science Officer at Theralogix. We're diving deep into the science of NAD+ - what it is, why it matters for fertility, and how it might help improve egg quality and outcomes for those pursuing IVF or egg freezing. Dr. Ratner, a board certified urologist, brings a wealth of expertise in nutritional supplements and reproductive health, and I've been looking forward to sharing this conversation with you.
Throughout our interview, we explore the fascinating roles of NAD+ and sirtuins in ovarian health, discuss the latest research (from mice to humans!), and break down what these findings could mean for anyone hoping to preserve or boost their fertility. We also touch on practical strategies, from supplements to lifestyle changes, and address common questions about safety, effectiveness, and the future of this exciting area of reproductive science.
In this episode, we cover:
- What NAD+ is and why it's crucial for egg health and fertility
- The role of sirtuins as "master regulators" in our cells and their connection to ovarian reserve
- How age-related declines in NAD+ and sirtuins impact egg quality
- Insights from animal and human studies on NAD+ supplementation and fertility outcomes
- The difference between NAD+ supplements and precursors like nicotinamide riboside
- Dietary and lifestyle approaches to boosting NAD+ (and why caloric restriction isn't for everyone)
- The growing awareness among fertility specialists and what's next for research in this field

I'm 41 and a carrier for a genetic disorder. Should I do another round of IVF now, or wait until after a healthy pregnancy with our one good embryo? (Ask the Egg Whisperer)
Season 8 · Episode 526
dimanche 19 décembre 2021 • Duration 29:49
We did our first round of IVF and we got results back today out of seven eggs, five fertilized, three made it to blast. We have one normal that is not affected. There was another normal blast, but it was affected, and there was one with abnormal chromosomes. We're so happy to have a good one to use.
We might want two children though. I have two more rounds covered by insurance, but they can't be used for embryo banking. Should I wait until after a healthy pregnancy with our good one to do IVF again? Or should we do another round now?"

I have hypothalamic amenorrhea, and I've had two egg retrievals, with poor fertilization. What do you recommend? (Ask the Egg Whisperer)
Season 8 · Episode 525
samedi 18 décembre 2021 • Duration 28:38
Here's what she says, "I have hypothalamic amenorrhea. I've had two egg retrievals. The first egg retrieval, three fertilized after seven retrieved, one blast tested abnormally. The second retrieval, we added an Omnitrope and dexamethazone during stimulation. ICSI and calcium solution to the eggs. Five retrieved, one fertilize, one blast, and it was normal. I eat very well, I take supplements, I meditate, and I am doing acupuncture. Any ideas on why have such poor fertilization? Do you think I have poor quality eggs, or is that the protocol that's hurting them? Should we be testing my husband's sperm further? What would you do for my next cycle?
Thank you for being such a guiding light."
