Did you wake up one morning and realize that you’ve hit midlife? Your forties (or fifties!) are here. You thought by now you’d have six figures in your retirement fund, have the confidence to speak up at work and in your relationships, and would have learned to love your body by now.

As a woman over 40, you've read and listened to all the self help and taken the experts’ advice, whether it’s thinking positively, joining the 5am club, or posting notes to yourself around the house. With every next attempt, though, you’re left with even more frustration - or wanting to numb the pain with wine and Netflix.

But what if self talk and mindset shifts could actually work? Have you ever considered that it’s not what you do, but it’s how you think and the emotions you feel that create real change?

What if you could wake up each morning looking forward to the day instead of hitting snooze four times? What if you could feel confident and beautiful in your body instead of comparing yourself to others and wishing perimenopause had been easier? What if you could spend each day doing work that matters and brings you success instead of just wishing for the weekend?

As an award-winning Life Coach, teacher, and trainer, Cheryl Fischer has helped hundreds of midlife women find success and confidence. This midlife transformation does not have to be about adding more tasks and habits to your day; change comes from inside and you can start now.

Join us each week as Cheryl and her guests share with you how to feel confident in your midlife body, your decisions, and your "second act" goals - and create a midlife that you love. (Formerly OMG Teach Me podcast)

How Decluttering Can Increase Your Happiness (And Your Family's!) with Mary Beth MacKinnon (Ep. 24)

Season 2 · Episode 24

vendredi 18 avril 2025Duration 39:03

Drowning in stuff while navigating midlife transitions? Professional organizer Mary Beth McKinnon reveals why decluttering now might be the greatest gift you'll ever give your family.

Mary Beth shares her personal journey of helping clear out her mother's home after a move to assisted living—a process made doubly painful because her mother was simultaneously grieving her husband and her possessions. This experience transformed Mary Beth's perspective on our relationship with our things and sparked her mission to help others avoid leaving this burden for their children.

Far from just practical advice, this conversation explores the profound emotional aspects of our belongings.

BY THE TIME YOU FINISH LISTENING, YOU'LL DISCOVER:

  • Compassionate strategies for getting started without becoming overwhelmed
  • The best tip I've ever heard for cleaning out photos on your phone
  • Ideas for helping family and friends with the clean out or downsizing process

Ep. 48: Midlife - Who am I? Worthiness in Midlife

Season 1 · Episode 48

mardi 27 février 2024Duration 43:07

I feel like I'm disappearing... Who am I?

Midlife can be a time of feeling a little bit lost.  The ways that we organized our days and determined our value may be changing.  The world may see us differently (can you say ageism?).

No matter what... no matter when... we are worthy.  Worthiness is the quality of being good enough.  We have value, and we matter.

Worthiness coach Jillie Johnston joins me today to chat about worthiness in midlife, and you will leave this episode with a process you can start doing right now to validate your feelings, figure out what you'd love to hear and say, and move toward joy in your life every day.  Awesome.

Are you familiar with hypnotherapy? Have you ever been hypnotized?

The power of hypnosis to change life-long patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting is truly amazing.  Clinical Hypnotherapist Andrew Bennett joins me today to explain what hypnosis is and how and why this is such a powerful form of therapy.

I have seen hypnotherapy work in some amazing situations with multiple people, so let's make sure we understand the brain science behind it.  If you're a brain science nerd like me, you'll love this episode.  And even if you're not, you'll want to know about this powerful option for making your life better.

Ep. 46: Spilling the Tea on Gluten-Free

Season 1 · Episode 46

mardi 20 février 2024Duration 30:18

Doesn't it feel like everyone either has a strong opinion on gluten or is simply confused about what gluten is and why it's an issue?

Let's clear up the story on gluten this week!

I'm walking you through what gluten is, where it comes from, and how it has changed.  We'll talk about celiac disease, gluten allergies and gluten sensitivity.  We'll talk about how you can figure out how gluten affects your body (because we're all different).  I'll share my story of discovering that gluten makes me sleepy, truly!

The key? Gluten in moderation as part of a whole food-based healthy and balanced way of eating that includes vegetables, protein, healthy fats and healthy carbs might be fine for you.  Or, your body may not handle gluten well at all.

The best thing you can do is find out.

Then we'll talk about gluten-free foods and gluten-free alternatives, because they have their place but they aren't necessarily any healthier.

I hope you walk away from this episode with clarity about the mystery of gluten - and knowing how to find out more for yourself.  Share this with someone who'd also like to understand!

Ep. 45: Growing Through the Hard Things

Season 1 · Episode 45

jeudi 15 février 2024Duration 34:39

If only we knew that our paths would be smooth and without any pitfalls or challenges...

OR

What if the pitfalls and challenges are where we find the growth?  What we if we look back and see that the challenge was the way we created new skills or turned in a new direction that turned out to be amazing?

Jorge Gonzalez, author of Answer the Call, joins me on this episode to talk about how we make it through the challenging times and what fulfillment is all about.  I'd love for you to take away from this discussion that it is powerful to listen to your intuition / your faith / your gut, and it does matter who we spend time around and how we lift each other up, and even more importantly, the major growth that happens in life is almost always outside our comfort zones.

You can find Jorge on Instagram at @jorge_v_gonzalez and you can find his book on Amazon .  Make sure to take a look!

Head over to episode 28 here or on your favorite podcast app and let's talk about following that voice in our heads and hearts as well.

Ep 44: Burnout Is Real - Catch It Early

Season 1 · Episode 44

mardi 13 février 2024Duration 43:17

We hear about burnout related to famous people who had to leave the spotlight for a period of time.  I know I used to think that burnout wasn't something that would affect "regular" people.  And then I hit burnout in my teaching job...

Robyn Krugman, therapist and coach, joins me today to talk us through symptoms of burnout and what we can do to soothe ourselves and hopefully start to create some improvement before we really hit a full burn-it-to-the-ground situation.

You'll want to watch for irritability, feeling disconnected or apathetic, not feeling like yourself, brain fog - and then you'll want to ask for help.  We're talking through tips for relaxation, treating ourselves like humans instead of productivity machines, and even JOMO (the joy of missing out).

Share this episode because burnout is an epidemic at this time.  Then make sure to also listen to episode 28 about bouncing back from burnout as well.

Ep. 43: Lead by Speaking Up

Season 1 · Episode 43

jeudi 8 février 2024Duration 31:18

It's bonus month... New episodes 2x/week throughout February!

Urmi Hossain, CFA, speaker and mentor for women in finance, joins me on this episode to talk about what it takes to be a woman in leadership.

What do we as women want in our professional lives? We want to feel valued in our jobs and we want to be recognized for our contributions.

How can we get there? We can speak up (especially since that creates an example for others too!), we can grow our confidence, we can step outside our comfort zones, and we can learn some new skills that create value in our lives.

Above all, remember that your job is not your identity and make sure to follow your passions.  I know you'll leave this episode with inspiring lessons for your job, your business, and your mindset.

Take a look at Urmi's book, Discovering Your Identity: A Rebirth from Interracial Struggle, follow her blog at myways.ca, and connect with her on LinkedIn, YouTube.
