| Ep. 48: Midlife - Who am I? Worthiness in Midlife | 27 Feb 2024 | 00:43:07 | |
I feel like I'm disappearing... Who am I?
Midlife can be a time of feeling a little bit lost. The ways that we organized our days and determined our value may be changing. The world may see us differently (can you say ageism?).
No matter what... no matter when... we are worthy. Worthiness is the quality of being good enough. We have value, and we matter.
Worthiness coach Jillie Johnston joins me today to chat about worthiness in midlife, and you will leave this episode with a process you can start doing right now to validate your feelings, figure out what you'd love to hear and say, and move toward joy in your life every day. Awesome.

The power of hypnosis to change life-long patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting is truly amazing. Clinical Hypnotherapist Andrew Bennett joins me today to explain what hypnosis is and how and why this is such a powerful form of therapy.
I have seen hypnotherapy work in some amazing situations with multiple people, so let's make sure we understand the brain science behind it. | Ep. 46: Spilling the Tea on Gluten-Free | 20 Feb 2024 | 00:30:18
Doesn't it feel like everyone either has a strong opinion on gluten or is simply confused about what gluten is and why it's an issue?
Let's clear up the story on gluten this week!
I'm walking you through what gluten is, where it comes from, and how it has changed. We'll talk about celiac disease, gluten allergies and gluten sensitivity. We'll talk about how you can figure out how gluten affects your body (because we're all different). I'll share my story of discovering that gluten makes me sleepy, truly!
The key? Gluten in moderation as part of a whole food-based healthy and balanced way of eating that includes vegetables, protein, healthy fats and healthy carbs might be fine for you. Or, your body may not handle gluten well at all.
The best thing you can do is find out.
Then we'll talk about gluten-free foods and gluten-free alternatives, because they have their place but they aren't necessarily any healthier.
I hope you walk away from this episode with clarity about the mystery of gluten - and knowing how to find out more for yourself. Share this with someone who'd also like to understand!

| Ep. 45: Growing Through the Hard Things | 15 Feb 2024 | 00:34:39 | |
If only we knew that our paths would be smooth and without any pitfalls or challenges... OR What if the pitfalls and challenges are where we find the growth? What we if we look back and see that the challenge was the way we created new skills or turned in a new direction that turned out to be amazing?
Jorge Gonzalez, author of Answer the Call, joins me on this episode to talk about how we make it through the challenging times and what fulfillment is all about. I'd love for you to take away from this discussion that it is powerful to listen to your intuition / your faith / your gut, and it does matter who we spend time around and how we lift each other up, and even more importantly, the major growth that happens in life is almost always outside our comfort zones.

| Ep 44: Burnout Is Real - Catch It Early | 13 Feb 2024 | 00:43:17 | |
We hear about burnout related to famous people who had to leave the spotlight for a period of time. I know I used to think that burnout wasn't something that would affect "regular" people. And then I hit burnout in my teaching job...
Robyn Krugman, therapist and coach, joins me today to talk us through symptoms of burnout and what we can do to soothe ourselves and hopefully start to create some improvement before we really hit a full burn-it-to-the-ground situation.
You'll want to watch for irritability, feeling disconnected or apathetic, not feeling like yourself, brain fog - and then you'll want to ask for help. We're talking through tips for relaxation, treating ourselves like humans instead of productivity machines, and even JOMO (the joy of missing out).

| Ep. 43: Lead by Speaking Up | 08 Feb 2024 | 00:31:18 | |
It's bonus month... New episodes 2x/week throughout February!
Urmi Hossain, CFA, speaker and mentor for women in finance, joins me on this episode to talk about what it takes to be a woman in leadership.
What do we as women want in our professional lives? We want to feel valued in our jobs and we want to be recognized for our contributions.
How can we get there? We can speak up (especially since that creates an example for others too!), we can grow our confidence, we can step outside our comfort zones, and we can learn some new skills that create value in our lives.
Above all, remember that your job is not your identity and make sure to follow your passions. I know you'll leave this episode with inspiring lessons for your job, your business, and your mindset.

| Ep. 42: FOMO - What if they're talking about me? | 06 Feb 2024 | 00:22:32 | |
Have you ever felt like you are left out of the cool group? Wondered if that group in the other room was talking and laughing about you? Felt silly because you thought so?
Let's talk about what to do. First of all, most people are focused on ourselves, not on anyone else. And even if they are talking about you, it's none of your business unless they want to talk directly to you about it.
I'm sharing two concepts that help me through situations when I feel like the dorky kid again who worried that she didn't fit in. Assume the positive, build up your mindset and self-confidence, and let's give them something to talk about! ;)

Compassion. We talk about compassion in terms of helping others and being involved in important causes. Do we talk about compassion in terms of being kind and compassionate to ourselves? Not as often.
Holly Zajur, wellness educator, joins me this week to share with us how to switch from self criticism (that is often far more mean than we would ever be to someone else) to self compassion.

| Ep. 32: How to Recognize and Heal the Emotion-Food Connection | 28 Nov 2023 | 00:38:40 | |
Emotional eating is something that many of us struggle with often. There is a comfort aspect to food that originates when we are babies and often continues throughout life. We also might struggle to recognize, validate or feel our emotions - and turn to things like food to provide the comfort, protection or distraction that we want. We might use food to cope with stress or turn to binge eating to try to cover up other things that we don't want to face. Dr. Nina Savelle-Rocklin joins me on this episode to share why these things happen. Where does the link between food and emotions come from and what can we do to change our patterns? Whether you've dealt with binge eating - or you simply know that sometimes food is your comfort mechanism - this episode will give you some tools to create a healthier relationship with food. Dr. Nina talks us through her VARY method - Validate, Acknowledge, Reassure Yourself. This episode ends on such a powerful note - make sure to listen to the end!

| Ep. 30: How to Redefine Your Relationship with Money and Wealth - Money Miniseries Week 2 | 14 Nov 2023 | 00:41:26 | |
Money doesn't grow on trees. Money is the root of all evil. If you have debt, you must be a bad person or irresponsible with money... We hear so many different sayings and views on money as we go through life, and many of these views get saved into our subconscious as beliefs about money. If you believe deep down that money makes people greedy and bad, you can bet that you won't be able to make much money in life. Your brain will protect you from that.
In week 2 of our Money Miniseries, Karen Mullins joins me to talk through money mindset. Last week we learned how to budget, prioritize spending, payoff debt, and more - make sure you've listened to episode 29! This week we'll learn what's underneath it all. What is your relationship with money? Is money actually good or bad? What should we call debt instead of using the word debt (and why doesn't the concept of a mortgage bother us)? Karen and I dive into all of this in a great discussion!
Make sure to connect with Karen on Instagram at @adventuresinawareness, and reach out to her anytime by email at support@karenmullinscoaching.com. You can also listen to the previous episode Karen and I created together (episode 6) about why sometimes we aren't getting results when we're doing all the things we thought we should.

You've dealt with burnout... whether it was career burnout, mental health burnout, relationship burnout... sometimes we need to recover from hitting bottom and try to figure out where to go next and what burnout recovery looks like.
Sabrina Del Duca joins me this week on OMG Teach Me to share her powerful story of overcoming career burnout, finding a job and a calling that light her up, and how she made it through her self-discovery journey.
You'll hear us talk about the challenges of feeling stuck, of trying not to "should" on ourselves, of being in emotional territory that feels heavy, and of dealing with physical signs and symptoms like aches and pains.
The good news? If you can apply some curiosity and allow yourself to be open to your intuition and creativity - and use emotion as your superpower - you can find a way forward. We'll address the practical issues that come along with that as well.

Working from home in your pajamas? Or making sure to always be "camera ready" no matter what? Let's talk about why it matters whether we get dressed each day. This week we're talking about enclothed cognition and how our minds and bodies react to wearing certain clothes (and to other people wearing certain clothes). While you might be able to get away with laying around in pjs, it may not be the best choice if you are going for productivity, confidence, and empowerment in your day. | Ep. 25: What you didn’t know about your nervous system, weight loss and safety | 10 Oct 2023 | 00:39:28
You decide to get in shape, or lose (release) weight, or make a life change... and a few weeks into it you get frustrated. It seems as if nothing is changing, and you find yourself falling back into old habits. Why? Your nervous system is signaling to you that it's not safe to make that change. Let's talk about weight loss and safety. Your nervous system is in control and is working from ideas you absorbed when you were a child - about whether exercise is good or is punishment and about how it's ok to look or act. There is a mind-body connection regarding healthy living and we're breaking that down to help you to understand it - and giving some tips for regulating your nervous system as well. Wellness and the autonomic nervous system is a key area of study right now, and you'll see why from my guest Meggie Martin, of Strong as a Mother. | Ep. 24: Should You Listen to the Voice in Your Head? Yes, if it’s Intuition | 03 Oct 2023 | 00:28:52
A gut feeling... a hunch... a thought that comes out of nowhere... a sense that something is just off... We've all noticed our intuition warning us about simple things or major things. It sounds like a good idea to listen to your instincts or trust your gut, but how can we learn to do this better? How can we get better at making sure our intuition catches our attention, and how can we tell whether it truly is intuition or it's just the fear talking in our brains? We're talking about practical tips and fun exercises to learn how to listen to your inner voice, help that inner voice (your subconscious mind) speak more loudly, and know whether it's actually intuition talking. This is a fascinating topic and it will make a difference in your decision making, and your life. Our world is rife with political rhetoric and arguments over both the facts of a situation and the solutions. How do we keep our blood pressures low and avoid sticking our heads in the sand about major issues in the world? I'm asking Laura how we can be informed, take an interest... and not drive ourselves nuts. We talk about:

If you are a dog lover, a parent, a teacher or all of the above, this episode is for you. If mindset and nature and fun are empowering and important, then bringing them into our classrooms while kids are still young seems even more important. Let's start teaching with fun early! Dr. Barbara Vokatis joins me this week to share how she works with her therapy dog in classrooms with kids of all ages. As a former teacher myself, I loved our discussion and I loved the idea that a few adults who want to try something new and bring nature into the classroom can make a huge difference. This episode is my love letter to teachers; you are out there making a difference every day and we see you. If you'd love to use your dog as a therapy dog, bring this idea into your school, or simply want to know more, make sure to reach out to Barb! Jen Liss joins me this week to talk about how we can focus on fun to overcome doubt and fear in our lives. Whoever you were interacting with would most likely leave the conversation with an impression of increase. Let's talk about why and how to leave people better off than when we found them. | Ep. 12: The two principles of style that you need to know now | 11 Jul 2023 | 00:29:51
Feeling good - confident - in what we wear and in our appearance matters. Style helps us to feel empowered, put together, confident, and positive. Emotion is the most powerful element to mindset and success and so feeling good is a powerful thing. Style also changes how others perceive us. (Remember the adage, "dress for the job you want?") Amanda Gauger joins me this week to give us some basic principles for dressing our bodies to advantage. We're learning about body architecture and how to determine our body shape. We'll hear some examples of ways we can BALANCE our bodies with style. We'll also talk about REPETITION and how this is a principle that can help us make clothing decisions. Make sure to follow and connect with Amanda at @bourbonbarbie on Instagram. Grab a screen shot as you're listening and share it on your social media so that more of us can learn style principles that help us to feel good when we go out into the world. | Ep. 10: Choose your own adjectives! How to let other people’s labels go. | 27 Jun 2023 | 00:26:59
A single comment about us being too shy or too smart or too silly can have an impact for YEARS. This week I'm talking about what listeners shared with me about labels they've dealt with in life - anything from ditzy to quiet to smart to class clown. It's time to stop "shoulding" on ourselves and on others. Often comments like this aren't even meant to be overheard... but they often are. And do we expect people to stay the same through life? Reunions can be a challenge as we battle the reputations or labels from our younger selves. I wrap up with some suggestions on how you can let these labels go and decide how you want to be known, and that's powerful. This one is personal - I'm sharing the story of my relationship with food, and it is not a smooth ride. I had some struggles and I told no one. Those struggles helped me find a way to look at food differently, however, and using these two types of food - FUN and FUEL - has been a game changer. I hope it will be for you as well. Resources:

So why does it matter so much and what can we do to make sure we can be strong and flexible while also avoiding pain and injury? Julie Cates of Strong Women Over 50 (@julcates) and Exercise for Life Studios joins me on this episode to share her four principles of safe and effective exercise (they're powerful!), and to talk about the two buckets of MOVE and BUILD. We're talking about how to do all of this pain-free and in a way that is healthy for your body as well.
