Smart Moves For A Tough Job Market

Season 1 · Episode 58

dimanche 25 janvier 2026Duration 01:21:58

Send us Fan Mail

Hiring shouldn’t feel like a maze you have to sprint through. We slow it down and map a clear route: tailor your CV to value, prepare for interviews with repeatable frameworks, and make smart choices about disclosure, culture fit, and negotiation—especially if you’re neurodivergent and juggling burnout risk, memory load, or short tenures.

Andrew Arkley, founder of Purple CV, brings 12 years of hands‑on expertise in CV writing, interview coaching, and ATS‑friendly formatting. We dig into when a functional CV beats a chronological one, how to turn frequent job changes into a story of adaptability, and why specifics sell: the exact tools, frameworks, and metrics that mirror the job spec. Clean structure wins; generic phrases don’t. You’ll hear how to use AI as a helper without losing your voice, and how modern ATS actually reads applications. Then we shift to live‑fire tactics: learn the interview format before you arrive, roleplay the common prompts, and answer with STAR to stay concise and confident.

Researcher and coach Esther Bangoura shares fresh insights from a UK survey on neurodivergence and money: most respondents believe they could earn more with better clarity, feedback, and flexibility. We connect those findings to everyday decisions—when to disclose, how to negotiate for the top of a salary band by tying asks to business outcomes, and what red flags to spot in vague job descriptions. We round it out with a sustainable job search strategy: define criteria, track outcomes, adjust instead of “spray and pray,” keep a living log of wins, and align LinkedIn with your narrative without oversharing.

If you’re ready to stop guessing and start landing interviews that fit, this conversation gives you the tools: targeted keywords, measurable achievements, format intel, culture research, and calm, repeatable interview prep. Subscribe, share with a friend who’s job hunting, and leave a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify to help more people find these strategies.

Unmasking ADHD in the Workplace

Season 1 · Episode 57

dimanche 25 mai 2025Duration 55:48

Send us Fan Mail

Are you tired of hearing "You don't look ADHD" or being told your struggles are "just a fad"? You're not alone. In this revealing conversation with Dr. Alex Cappai we unpack the unique challenges women with ADHD face in professional environments and why being believed is often the first significant hurdle.

Dr. Alex Cappai dispels common myths about ADHD, emphasizing that while many associate it with hyperactivity, the central issue is actually attention management. For women especially, ADHD often manifests less visibly - through mental overwhelm, racing thoughts, and periodic burnout rather than external hyperactivity. This difference in presentation frequently leads to misdiagnosis or dismissal of symptoms.

We explore the fascinating connection between hormones and ADHD symptoms in women. Dr. Alex Cappai explains how estrogen levels affect dopamine production, creating fluctuating ADHD symptoms throughout the menstrual cycle and intensifying during perimenopause. This biological reality adds another layer of complexity for professional women managing their careers alongside ADHD.

The conversation shifts to practical workplace considerations, with Dr. Alex Cappai suggesting that finding the right environment may be more productive than trying to mask in unsuitable settings. Someone with predominantly hyperactive ADHD might struggle in desk-bound roles but thrive in dynamic positions. Understanding your specific needs allows you to seek workplaces where your neurodivergent thinking becomes an asset rather than a limitation.

Whether you suspect you might have ADHD or have been diagnosed and are navigating professional challenges, this episode offers valuable insights about professional assessment, workplace accommodation, and embracing your neurodivergent strengths. Subscribe now and join our community of professionals learning to thrive with neurodiversity in the workplace.

Finding Love and Success as a Neurodivergent Black Man

Season 1 · Episode 45

dimanche 2 juin 2024Duration 01:20:27

Send us Fan Mail

As a neurodiverse person too, Tumi has experienced the chaos that comes with it, struggling to be organized and often needing assistance from his wife. Tumi's neurodiversity is Dyspraxia, one of the least recognised or understood forms of neurodiversity. Interestingly, Dyspraxia is more prevalent than ADHD and Autism in the UK; however, there are close to 50 times more publications about the latter than the former.

Dyspraxia is medically described as Developmental Coordination Disorder. "Dys" means difficulty while "Praxia" means Action. Hence, it means difficulty executing gross or fine motor skills. It also includes struggling with organization, time management, forgetfulness, and sleep. On the other hand, some of the strengths include creativity, empathy, and the ability to speak publicly.

Audacity and confidence—how do they shape our personal and professional lives, especially for a dyspraxic man finding love in a world filled with societal expectations? Sarah and her guest unpack this topic with heartfelt anecdotes, from overcoming insecurities to the significant role of empathy and strong friendships. The discussion extends to navigating employment as a neurodivergent person, highlighting the impact of representation, mentorship, and advocacy within the Black neurodiversity community. This episode also touches on the practicalities of daily life challenges and the crucial need for systemic support, providing a comprehensive look into the world of neurodiversity and success.

●      Connect with Tumi on LinkedIn (Tumi Sotire), Twitter (Tumi Sotire), and Instagram (@theblackdyspraxic)

The membership also offers a full diagnostic assessment for neurodiversity from educational psychologists or Medical Doctors closely supported by the British Dyslexia Association and Lexxic. This is huge because of the long waitlist. Nonmembers are charged £5 at Divineenigma.org for a body doubling session.

Building an Inclusive Future for Autistic Coders

Season 1 · Episode 44

lundi 6 mai 2024Duration 44:28

Send us Fan Mail

Embarking on a journey from eager coder to independent freelancer, our returning guest Oluwaseye lays out the blueprint for navigating the tech world while honouring their neurodiversity. They delve into the nuances of building a thriving client base, crafting a website for an online service business, and balancing freelance work with their unique needs. This episode promises a roadmap for those seeking to marry their personal aspirations with their professional pursuits, all while defying the traditional job hunt in favour of self-sufficiency.

There are two points of note in finding a spouse. Firstly, having a relationship with God can be highly beneficial; Oluwaseye had asked God for the kind of spouse he wanted and Sarah was exactly what he prayed for. Secondly, finding a good church is another important aspect. Some churches may not be a good fit as was our guest's experience until Sarah invited him to a more welcoming church. A lot of these shortcomings are simply because of the human flaws of the people running the church.

Some of the negatives of autism in Oluwaseye's experience include depression, vulnerability to bad friends, and difficulty being understood. Some of the positives are his marriage, his friendships, and his closeness to God.

Finally, we turn the spotlight on the Autistic Black Coders initiative, a testament to the power of community and the importance of mentorship in forging a tech career that aligns with one's true calling. From project management to customer success, the opportunities for neurodiverse individuals in tech are vast and varied.

Beyond Misophonia: Understanding Neurodiversity with Erin Mather

Season 1 · Episode 43

dimanche 28 avril 2024Duration 01:09:58

Send us Fan Mail

Erin is a digital marketing apprentice working with her mum to create "Neuro Network", which is a networking platform for neurodivergent business owners. She also created her graphics design business, Ethereal Creative Design.  Neuro Network consists of small groups of neurodiverse business owners who connect in a safe familiar space where they can be authentic unlike in a more neurotypical business environment.

Erin has always felt different from childhood when she had immense difficulty making friends. She also later noticed she had a very strong reaction to certain sounds like chewing which she discovered was called Misophonia, a condition her mum already had. In addition, she has Misokinesia where repetitive movement is the trigger for the reaction. The reaction can be physically disabling as it impedes the ability to think and may even instigate suicidal thoughts. A very similar occurrence is seen in OCD too.

Sarah hopes to have a workshop with Erin for neurodiverse business owners to network. Interested listeners can fill out the form below.

Sarah has now launched her membership platform "NeuroEnigma", where neurodiverse people can have a supportive community with resources to manage ADHD or dyslexia.

She is also offering a six-week coaching program for neurodivergent and neurotypical professionals who want to improve their career prospects or get into project management and take the PRINCE2 practitioner exam. A one-hour free session which can be booked via Sarah’s email is now available to give clients an idea of what to expect
