Suffering from the Fear of Success?

Does this sound familiar to you? …..
You do all the things you can to help set yourself up for the best week.
You get up ‘early’ & do your routines …
You capture everything you want to get done on your list … whether that’s a nice fancy notebook where you go old school & write it down, or you tap tap tap away & input it into your somewhat more fancier system, which will help you be organised & get it done.
But then at the end of some days, you find yourself down in the dumps, saying not so nice things to yourself & drowning your sorrows whilst staring down at the bottom of your cold latte mug ….. because some things didn’t quite get done like planned!
Why is that?
Of course, there’ll be times when ‘things’ come up that you didn’t expect, so you need to re-prioritise & adjust your plans. That’s life & it happens.
But if you keep noticing that you’re constantly moving the same things from one ‘to-do list’ to the next one … yet it’s still not getting done … maybe there’s something else going on.
It could be down to FEAR.
There’s actually 2 sides to the FEAR equation … and one side tends to get more time & attention by people … the fear of failure!
You know … the things that you don’t do because … what if it doesn’t work out or you fall flat on your face!
Well what about that other side … the Fear of SUCCESS?
This is often neglected & not given enough attention. But it’s what can be the real reason why sometimes we can hold ourselves back from actually doing what we say we’re going to do.
Because … what if it DOES work … then what will that mean?
You know like …
‘What if I get grow my team? … it will mean that I’ll need to coach & lead them … yikes will I be good enough to do that & do I even have the time to do it?’
What if I put myself out there on social media? … it will mean that other people will see what I’m doing, they may think I’ve changed & not be happy for me!
What if I get more sales? …. it may just mean that I’m working more & the lovely tax people will take a bigger chunk of it.
What if I grow my part-time business? … it could mean that I’ll actually get to give up the full time job that I’ve been trying to get away from … but I’ve been doing that for years & it’s ‘who’ I am!
What if … what if .. what if?
Some of the above rambles that go on inside our head can be pretty scary at times for us to even contemplate … so without realising it we can sabotage things to stop it from actually happening!
It may sound absurd but I’ve seen this countless of times when coaching & mentoring business owners & entrepreneurs … plus I’ve been guilty of doing that too at times!
So have a think about some of those things that you may not be doing & if you were to really be honest with yourself, it’s because you’re scared of acing it!
Then give yourself a good shake & ask yourself what you’d rather …. keeping things the way they are … or creating things in the way you really want them to be?
Of course to get from ‘here’ to ‘there’ … it will feel scary at times … you’ll feel like you’re out of your...

How To Avoid Giving Up In Your Business

I know what it’s like when you set a big hairy & scary goal. You can start thinking … ‘is it really going to happen?’
Then doubt can creep in & you start thinking …. ‘but how am I going to do it?!?’
‘How?’ … isn’t the most useful question to focus or dwell upon from my experience.
Because if you’re so determined to have something happen in a very specific way, you could be closing your eyes to opportunities for that goal being achieved in much easier & different ways. Ways that you don’t even know is possible yet.
So how do you keep the faith & confidence to keep on going?
For me, I love seeing ‘signs’ that give me the little nod, that things are unfolding towards that goal, so just keep on moving forward.
Do you have a ‘sign’ that helps give you that boost?
For me, it’s whenever I see a butterfly. Whether that’s a real-life one, or if it shows up in the most random of places, like my niece’s t-shirt the other day.
Without fail, it helps me banish any doubts & gives me an extra spring in my step.
If you don’t have a ‘sign’ yet, you can choose one! Just make sure it’s not something so normal that you already see it easily every day.
Butterflies also reminds me of something powerful one of my mentors Roger Hamilton talks about.
‘Grow a garden instead of chasing butterflies’
There’s 2 ways to go growing your business, a hard way or an easier way.
If you’re constantly chasing butterflies, it’s like being in ‘hustle’ mode. Every day you’re having to wake up & do lots of chasing. Think about it, if you had a net & were chasing butterflies, what would they do? Fly away from you!
And if you didn’t get out there with your net to chase your butterflies, well you’d have none that day, right?
How about you did things differently?
If you grew your ‘garden’, then butterflies would be attracted to it more easily, even when you’re not there. And it would also attract other animals & insects.
Ok, so what’s that go to do with business?
Well, your business could be like the garden. When you’re out there consistently sharing your valuable content & resources, it’s making it easier for you to attract your ideal customers, clients or even potential collaborators.
This could still be working for you over & over again, even when you’re not actually there.
When you grow your garden, you’re not worried about the ‘how’ things will happen, unlike if you had that net & your sole focus was chasing the butterflies.
Does that make sense?

5 Ways To Keep Your Business Growth Simple

I opened up a new business bank account in literally 2 minutes, with one of those online ‘challenger’ banks last week.
No long forms to fill in. No paperwork. No long meeting with their banking advisor.
What a contrast to when I opened up my first business account when I started my business back in 2007.
It really reminded me of the power of keeping thing simple as we grow our businesses.
Here’s 5 top tips to help you to do just that ….
1. What’s your goal?
- If your new ‘idea’ or opportunity doesn’t fit within your goals (especially 90 day goals), the chances are that it could be a distraction & could risk you overcomplicating your business.
2. Simple first & then you can get fancy.
- What’s that new promotion/lead magnet/service/product (seriously this applies to everything) that you’re wanting to get out there … get the first version of it out there in the simplest way possible. The feedback you get will help you decide if it’s working or not. Then you can make it even more fancy, if you need or want.
3. Less is more
- One sure fire way to feel overwhelmed, unfocused & to confuse your potential clients, is to be launching to many different things at the same time.
- Do one thing at a time, so you can really do it justice.
4. Remember the basics
- There’s so many ways that we can use technology & get all advanced to help us grow our business, but what’s the point if you’re not even doing the ‘basics’ well.
- You know like following up on potential leads; delivering on your product or service promises & acing your customer service.
- Get these working consistently well & in a simple way, before you go more fancy.
5. What stage are you at?
- It’s so easy to look at what your peers are doing & suffer from comparison-itis as a result, thinking that you have to do things like them. But are you really comparing the exact same situation or stages of business …. Most likely not, right?
- So even if you do try to do what they’re doing, the chances are it won’t work as effectively for your business or risk overcomplicating things unnecessary for you.
- Don’t say I haven’t warned you.
So what’s the biggest tip that you needed reminded of today to help you focus on keeping your focus & action sharp?

'I don't know' ... really?

“I don’t know!"
It’s one of the most common responses I hear.
Both when it comes to business & also in our new favourite Netflix series, ‘Indian Matchmaking’.
Sima the matchmatcher from Mumbai always asks, ‘What do you want in your life partner?’
Normally she gets some form of ‘I don’t know’ or a vague response. Until she probes & asks again.
And guess what comes out … what they really want!
So how do you stop pretending that you don’t know the answers to the questions that will help you to get out your way & grow your business?

Are You Putting Your Clients or Business First?

Isn’t it an amazing feeling when you get a new client or customer?
They’ve put their faith in you & of course you want to totally deliver for them.
But what happens when you’ve got lots of clients that are needing your time & attention?
It can be so easy to end up neglecting your own business. Trust me, I’ve been there & done that!
And that my friend, is a slippery slope that you really want to avoid.
Because if you stop nurturing & growing your business in a consistent way, you may end up with no new clients or still talking about those projects or goals you have that never seen to get done!
