Generative AI Disruption - Eps. 9: Marketing Pricing & Product Leader, Robert Campbell

Episode 109

mercredi 15 mai 2024Duration 54:05

Key takeaways from our guest, Pricing Strategist & Product Marketing Leader, Robert Campbell:

Start by understanding how generative AI models work. There are two main types of prompts used for generative AI: imperative and declarative. Imperative prompts provide step-by-step instructions, while declarative prompts ask for a specific output. Understanding these distinctions will help you get the most out of generative AI tools.

Don't replace human creativity and judgment entirely with generative AI outputs. While generative AI can be a valuable tool, it's important to remember that it is still under development. Be aware of potential biases in the training data and the limitations of the technology.

Focus on several metrics when using generative AI:

  • Engagement metrics: Track how well different content performs (human-created vs. generative AI-created) to measure effectiveness.
  • AB Testing: Use generative AI-generated content alongside human-created content to see which performs better.
  • Traditional marketing metrics: Keep focusing on revenue generation, churn rate, and other important marketing metrics.

Generative AI Disruption - Eps. 8: AI Marketing Tech Leader, Benjamin Hoehn

Episode 108

mercredi 1 mai 2024Duration 48:22

Key takeaways from our guest, AI Marketing Tech Leader, Benjamin Hoehn:

The Importance of Curiosity: Ben emphasized that curiosity is crucial, especially with the rapid developments in generative AI. He mentioned, "It is that level of curiosity that you really need to kind of propel yourself into success."

Generative AI as a Tool for Efficiency: Ben described generative AI as creating a "straw man," or a first draft, which helps in removing the ego from initial ideas and improves operational efficiency. He said, "The machine does not care about its idea. It's just saying, based on this data set that I've observed, these are five things that you can do."

AI's Role in Disrupting Traditional Processes: Ben shared insights on how AI is changing team dynamics and processes, especially in content creation and marketing strategies. AI tools like Rytr and Grammarly are helping to produce first drafts and reduce the workload on human editors.

Risk Management in AI Adoption: Discussing the risks associated with generative AI, Ben highlighted the need for companies to establish AI policies and ensure data security. He cautioned, "It gets super risky if you're exposing PII data or anything behind your company firewall to it."

Future of AI in Marketing and Beyond: Looking forward, Ben predicted that AI will be integrated more deeply into business and marketing practices. He discussed potential new roles like a "GPT creator" who optimizes AI tools for company use, emphasizing AI's broader impact on society and industries beyond marketing.

Episode 7

jeudi 20 septembre 2018Duration 12:59

What are the differences between marketing roles on the Agency side and the Client/Brand side?

Some observations and things to consider:

Agency side roles

  • Great for internships or entry level roles - opportunity to learn a ton.

  • And be a practitioner for a particular marketing channel.

  • Great for career switchers - someone wanting to learn about marketing.

Client side roles

  • Great for exposure to breadth of learning multiple marketing channels

Set Yourself Apart In 90 Days

Episode 6

mardi 14 août 2018Duration 12:01

What should be in a 90 day plan?

a) Break out your projects into 3 timeboxes -- by day 30, by day 60 and by day 90

b) Make sure to capture ‘expected outcomes’ or ‘goals’...otherwise it will not be clear if you were successful or not.

c) Focus on these three areas:

  1. People - how are you helping others & yourself develop? How are you building relationships within the organization and externally with your networks?

  2. Process - Operations. How are you helping to manage costs?  What projects can you own that help find ways for the team/company to be more productive or efficient?

  3. Performance - Measurable impact. How are you helping to drive qualitative and quantitative metrics? This should be easy for any marketing role.

If you want a copy of my 90-day plan template -- Just send me an email at erik @ themarketinghelp.co with subject line “90 Days” and I will send you a copy.

Marketing Interview Questions to Ask & Answer

Episode 4

samedi 16 juin 2018Duration 09:37

I asked 100 digital marketing hiring managers, “what’s the ONE thing that negatively impacts a candidates chances of moving on or being hired”.

The overwhelmingly most popular answer was “Not having questions prepared”.

Here 3 questions you should be prepared to ASK during your interview (feel free to capture the gist of the question - phrase it in the way that works for you.):

  1. How do you find ways to continuously challenge your team to get better at what they do?
  2. How does the company address changes in the digital marketing landscape? Can you provide an example?
  3. After 90 days in this role, what metrics would we be discussing tied to success?

Here are some questions you should be prepared to ANSWER:

  1. What’s an example of a brand you think does [enter digital marketing channel] well, and why?
  2. What is a hobby you’re passionate about? How to do it?
  3. Based on what you’ve researched about our brand, what can we be doing better?

Ace Your Marketing Interview Preparation - Do These 5 Things

Episode 3

lundi 16 avril 2018Duration 13:14

You can find all podcast episodes here.

1 - Research The Company.

Understand when they were founded. Who are the owners. What is their back story. Are they funded, public or private? Who do they primarily serve as clients or as partners. What is their primary product or service? What is their culture?
Check out Google, Crunchbase or Glassdoor

2 - Research The Business.

Who are their competitors? Their target audiences? What are common best practices and relevant topics for their space? Who are likely strategic partners, resellers or influencers?

3 - Research The Interview Panel.

If you’re able, get a list in advance of who you will be interviewing you. Then audit their LinkedIn profile. Get a sense for where they worked, their network, skills and accomplishments.

Leveraging this data during small talk or intros goes a long way in making a positive impression.

4- Research The Marketing Footprint.

Get a sense of what their doing and identify ways you can help.

Sign up for their newsletter. Audit their social profiles or blog posts.

See what types of ads they’re running on Moat.com.

Download BuiltWith.com to see what other tech tools they’re using on their site - split testing tools, email providers, ad networks -- This can show interview panel that you’re digging deeper than most candidates to understand how they’re approaching their marketing executions...and at least make for a good conversation point.

Use SimilarWeb.com to research their website traffic totals and inbound traffic sources. Another great source for conversation points and questions during the interview.

5 - Prepare an Outline for a 90-day plan.

Unless the company prepped you and asked for this, no one is going to expect it.

Take the liberty of outlining what you would plan to do in 90 days to help drive positive growth for their company.

Easy starting point: Make 3 columns - The role, The team, Growth/Performance.
Then list things that only you can provide under each. E.g. Under 'Role', list things like curiosity, eagerness to learn, readiness to be challenged, or a sense of humor.

Present this to the hiring manager or team at the end of the interview.
