Overlanding 101: What I’d Do Differently If I Started Over...

Season 6 · Episode 37

dimanche 15 septembre 2024Duration 18:06

In this episode, I'm thinking back through the several rigs I've had and the multiple years of experience I've spent doing overlanding and long camping trips.

What would I have done differently, knowing what I know now? In this episode of the podcast, I'm going to talk through some tips and tricks that I've learned and I'll try to lay out some clear, actionable tips for improving your trips and saving you money.

I made a lot of mistakes over the last few years and they were costly (time and money-wise) so learn from my mistakes to help you be more efficient with your future overlanding build and trips.

Should You Go Camping or Overlanding on a Holiday Weekend? Some Thoughts...

Season 6 · Episode 27

dimanche 7 juillet 2024Duration 14:52

In this episode, with the recent July 4th holiday, I wanted to talk a bit about the pros and cons of going camping or overlanding during or around national holidays.

If you haven't experienced it and have questions about what the crowds are like, how hard it is to find a spot (both dispersed or reserved), and what the folks that go out over a holiday weekend are usually like, behavior-wise, this is the episode for you.

Check out the full episode for all the info and drop you thoughts in the comments below! Do you agree or disagree? What's been your experience around holidays?

New Vehicle VS Old Vehicle for Overlanding: Which is the better choice for you?

Season 4 · Episode 39

dimanche 25 septembre 2022Duration 19:47

Today I'm going to be talking about some of the pros and cons of older vehicles for Overlanding vs. newer vehicles for Overlanding. I've had some recent mechanical issues with my 2008 Nissan Frontier that made me really start considering if a new vehicle might make sense.

So, if you're thinking about getting your first, or a new, Overlanding vehicle, this episode should help you think about the pros and cons of newer vs. older so you can make your decision.

If you enjoy the podcast and wouldn’t mind, I’d be extremely thankful if you left a 5 star review on whatever podcast platform you listen on! Thanks and have a great week!

How Do People Afford Full Time Overlanding? (Best Jobs, Top Side Hustles, and More)

Season 4 · Episode 38

dimanche 18 septembre 2022Duration 18:31

This week I've been noticing a lot of posts on Overlanding Facebook groups and forums where people were asking what kind of jobs people had to do in order to afford to Overland full time, or at least more often than they felt like they could.

I'm going to talk a bit about what I saw on the forums, but then dive into my experience and how I've changed my whole career trajectory over the last 5 years since I've started Overlanding and camping more to support that lifestyle.

I'm sure there are a lot of you out there that are living that dream too, so pop over to Facebook, Instagram, or the Patreon group and post up what you're doing to live the dream!

If you enjoy the podcast and wouldn’t mind, I’d be extremely thankful if you left a 5 star review on whatever podcast platform you listen on! Thanks and have a great week!

Old School Vs New School Overlanding Gear - Which is Better?

Season 4 · Episode 34

dimanche 21 août 2022Duration 16:12

I was having a discussion with a buddy a few weeks ago about the advantages of some of the newer, more modern tools and pieces of gear you can get related to Overlanding.

But the more we discussed, the more we also started to see a lot of downsides to the newer stuff. That made me think of the topic for this week's episode. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of both the newest, highest tech gear vs. some of the more old school, mechanical types of gear.

Is a compass better than GPS in certain instances? Is an electric water pump better than a simple spigot? These are the questions we'll chat through to help you think critically about your set up and when to go high tech vs. low tech.

If you enjoy the podcast and wouldn’t mind, I’d be extremely thankful if you left a 5 star review on whatever podcast platform you listen on! Thanks and have a great week!

What Gear I Stopped Bringing on My Overlanding Trips (And What I Now Bring Instead)

Season 4 · Episode 33

dimanche 14 août 2022Duration 14:39

Over the years, I've had a lot of gear that seemed essential when I bought it. Then the more I went out exploring, the more I realized that some of it never got used.

This week, I wanted to talk through some of the things that I've changed with the gear that I bring on trips. What have I stopped bringing and what have I done to keep the same level of readiness without all the extra or unnecessary gear?

Check out the full episode for more info that should help you save time and money!
