Especially considering that I camp almost exclusively in the winter. I've always fought it for a couple of reasons (skip to the "cons" chapter in the video to hear those). But, I finally broke down and bought one. I'm really loving it, but there are some things you have to think about. | Overlanding and Camp Kitchen - Electric or Propane? (REDARC, Dual Battery, 5 lb Propane Tank) | 13 Feb 2022 | 00:21:57
The longer I've done Overlanding trips, the more I'm wondering about whether gas or electric makes more sense for my set up. In this week's vlog/podcast, I'm going to talk through the pros and cons of both and which setups each works better with. There isn't an absolute "best" of the two, in my opinion, but each has its uses depending on your overall rig set up. So, check it out and post up in the comments with your thoughts! | S3E49 - Learning to Use Your Gear VS Buying New Gear (Mistakes New Overlanders Make) | 19 Dec 2021 | 00:06:27
First of all, apologies for the sporadic wind noise. I recorded this on a camping trip and the wind was apparently crazy. It's not too bad except in a couple of places, but it's annoying so sorry about that. Today, I put together a really short episode as we approach the holidays talking about the value of learning to use the gear you have, versus just constantly buying new gear. It can be easy to fall into the trap of blaming your gear (or thinking that more, different, or better gear will solve the problem). However, most of the time you don't necessarily need new gear, but just more knowledge. While this episode is short, I hope it's helpful and makes you think about your gear vs. knowledge to focus more on learning than purchasing to solve problems, :D. Post up in the comments below if you've got tips that would help people! Thanks for watching! | S3E42 - Can You Go Overlanding in a Stock Vehicle? (Pros and Cons, Built vs. Stock, Best Vehicle) | 31 Oct 2021 | 00:11:11
I've said many times that it doesn't matter what you drive. If you want to get out and explore, just take what you've got and go. In this episode, since the Frontier is still broken down, I took the wife's stock 2017 Honda Pilot EX-L down to Hoosier National Forest for a quick trip with my son. I wanted to show that you could get to a lot of great places regardless of what kind of vehicle you drive. While I understand the Pilot isn't built out as an "Overland" vehicle, a lot of people have normal daily drivers. So, you could easily pack your gear in some storage crates and move it in and out of the vehicle and still do some awesome trips. Not only did the Pilot do great, but there were also some really nice pro's to this vehicle over my normal, Overlanding build. Check out the podcast for more details and drop your thoughts in the comments below! | S3E36 - Instead of "What is Overlanding?" How About "Why Overlanding?" and "Is it right for you?" | 19 Sep 2021 | 00:16:16
So many videos out there (including some I've made) are simply a video version of a definition of what Overlanding is. When I search YouTube for the term "Overlanding," all I see are things like "Overlanding 101" and "What is Overlanding?" So, on this week's episode, I wanted to talk more about why I think Overlanding may be right for you. If you've listened to me before, I've done an episode or two on Why Overlanding is Awesome, but since I've learned a decent amount in the last couple. years of doing this, I wanted to revisit "Why Overlanding Might Be Right For You." Hope you enjoy it and, especially if you're new, that it's helpful for you!
