53. Creating What Women Want with Joanne Cloak, Founder & CEO of Jofit
lundi 3 juillet 2023 • Duration 40:35
I sit down with Joanne Cloak, CEO and founder of the golfwear brand JoFit. With her unique perspective as a former model, phys ed teacher, and lifelong athlete, Joanne takes us through her journey from grappling with ill-fitting clothes to starting her own brand that champions comfort, fit, and style.
Joanne unveils the backstory of JoFit, recounting how she drove up and down the East and West Coast, trying to sell her brand to pro shops. She shares how she maneuvered through the challenges of scaling her business, managing cash flow, and pre-booking orders.
We also deep dive into Joanne's design ethos, emphasizing the importance of details, patterns, and sizing strategies. She shares why long-sleeve sun shirts are her go-to and how she ensures styles to fit all body types. We explore her wide waistband design aimed at comfort and inclusivity. Lastly, we provide a sneak peek at the exciting JoFit designs planned for Fall 2024.
Key Highlights
· Joanne took matters into her own hands when she realized the lack of good-fitting clothes available for women, especially in the golf apparel industry. Her brand prioritizes comfort, fit, and style, with a keen eye for details like pocket size and armhole fit.
· Selling to pro shops wasn't easy. Joanne had to rely on her samples and the feedback of women in the shop to get her brand off the ground. She soon realized that the key to success was pre-booking orders so she could afford the production. With 26 reps and booming orders, Joanne found herself in a promising yet tricky cash flow situation.
· She realized that as sizes increase, the grading needs to be adjusted differently for areas like the bust and belly. This feedback led to alterations in the grading process to accommodate these changes.
· Joanne's story also highlights the importance of inclusivity in the fashion industry, particularly in sports apparel. Her focus on creating clothes that cater to all body types and her dedication to improving the fit and comfort of her clothes based on customer feedback demonstrate a commitment to creating a brand that truly serves its customers.

49. Overcoming Fear and Having Your Worst Round Ever with Michael Leonard
lundi 19 juin 2023 • Duration 01:02:09
Tara and I sit down with Michael Leonard, host of the Wicked Smart Golf Podcast, to discuss his journey from novice golfer to competitor in US Open qualifiers and how he rekindled his love for the sport. Michael's enthusiasm is infectious, and it was a joy to reminisce about our own experiences playing college golf and how it shaped us both on and off the green.
During our conversation, we shared stories about unforgettable golf vacations, like Michael's family trip to Pebble Beach where he played three times a day and managed to shoot an impressive 79 at Pebble and 73 at Spyglass. We also delved into the impact of the new NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) rules on college athletes and offered advice for younger players looking to pursue a career in college golf.
Fear is a hurdle all golfers have to overcome more than once in their career. Through the example of one of the worst rounds Michael has ever played, we explored how to navigate the emotional roller coaster that comes along with playing competitively. We discussed the importance of a solid pre-shot routine, positive self-talk, and remaining present on the course to improve our mental game.

48. Prevention & Recovery of the Most Common Golf Injuries with Dr. Audra Lance
jeudi 15 juin 2023 • Duration 29:15
Today, I’m sitting down with Dr. Audra Lance, a leading sports and non-surgical injury specialist, who gives her best strategies on reducing the risk of injury or recovering from one.
Listen in as Dr. Audra shares her valuable insights into understanding the root cause of common sports injuries such as tennis elbow, rather than simply stifling the pain with a temporary band-aid solution.
We cover the fundamental role of breathing and thoracic spine mobility for golfers, as well as how loading the joints can prevent bone and muscle deterioration, and how modifying yoga poses can aid in injury prevention and recovery.
Key Highlights
· Recovering from an inflamed elbow from repeated golf swings, without taking time away from playing the sport, is possible with a little planning. For example, instead of playing 18 holes, go to the driving range and do 15 minutes of swing practice. Holistic, deliberate movement, combined with purposeful breathing, can serve as your “tylenol”, helping you heal from your injury faster.
· The importance of breathing when it comes to preventing and treating lower back pain is essential. Nasal breathing can help access your diaphragm and pelvic floor, not only to help release tension almost immediately, but to help you perform better out on the golf course!
· We explore how strength training and yoga can help prevent and treat neck pain, headaches, jaw pain, and shoulder blade pain. We emphasize the importance of loading the joints to prevent bone and muscle deterioration, and how modifications to yoga poses can help with injury prevention and recovery.
· We look at how examining the feet can help diagnose and treat an injury, and how adding different components of movement to your routine can help maintain health and prevent pain.
