Book your Functional Hormone Check Here: https://precisiontotalhealth.com/contact

Takeaways Estrogen is a sex hormone that fluctuates throughout the menstrual cycle and plays a crucial role in preparing the uterus for pregnancy. Estrogen excess can lead to symptoms such as mood swings, breast tenderness, fibrocystic breasts, brain fog, bloating, uterine fibroids, weight gain, low libido, and heavy periods. Low estrogen levels can cause symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, low mood, trouble sleeping, memory issues, and bone density problems. Factors that can contribute to hormone imbalance include genetic predisposition, estrogen toxicity, alcohol consumption, chronic stress, under-eating, smoking, and excessive soy consumption. Testing estrogen levels is best done during the mid-luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, and results should be interpreted in the context of individual symptoms and goals. A functional hormone check, including comprehensive blood panel testing and personalized evaluation, can provide valuable insights and guidance for addressing hormone imbalance. How Cortisol Disrupts All Your Other Hormones | #25

Episode 25

mercredi 4 octobre 2023Duration 13:59

In this week's mini episode Nurse Practitioner and Functional Wellness Coach, Lori Aikman, teaches on your stress hormone, cortisol. Key Takeaways: Cortisol: The Hormonal Disruptor - Cortisol stands out as a pivotal disruptor of all other hormones within your body's intricate system. Weight Gain and Cortisol - High cortisol levels can be a driver behind undesirable weight gain. It elevates both blood sugar and insulin levels, which can lead to increased fat storage. Leptin Levels and Satisfaction - Elevated cortisol levels can lower your leptin levels, often referred to as the "satisfaction hormone." This drop in leptin can result in feelings of increased hunger and diminished satisfaction after eating. Leptin Resistance - High cortisol levels can induce leptin resistance, a condition where your body becomes less responsive to the signals of fullness, potentially increasing your appetite and causing overeating. Ghrelin and Appetite - Cortisol can also lead to heightened grehlin production, another appetite-regulating hormone. This increase in ghrelin levels can further intensify your appetite, making it challenging to manage food intake Ovulation and Cortisol - High cortisol levels may disrupt the delicate balance of hormones in your body, potentially leading to blocked ovulation and reduced levels of essential sex hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Adrenal Fatigue, Burnout, and Hormonal Dysfunction - Prolonged exposure to high cortisol levels can result in conditions like "Adrenal Fatigue," burnout, or HPA (Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal) dysfunction, all of which contribute to imbalances in sex hormones, including estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Thyroid Hormones Suppression - Not only does high cortisol disrupt sex hormones, but it can also inhibit the proper functioning of thyroid hormones, impacting your metabolism and overall energy levels.

jeudi 12 octobre 2023Duration 38:47

Today, I have the privilege of talking to Kristen Barry, the inspiring owner of Space Coast Thermography in Rockledge, Florida. Kristen holds a BA, MA and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and worked in this arena for 20 years. After her breast cancer diagnosis she began a deep dive into researching ways to enhance her health, prevent reoccurrence, reverse the side effects and help other women avoid going through what she had to.

She became involved in and ran several support groups in Brevard County, FL and attended numerous national conferences, and used herself as a "guinea pig" for many natural treatment modalities.

In 2018 she opened Space Coast Thermography and she continues to help educate women on this radiation-free and compression-free tool.

Episode Highlights:

The TOP Signs of Hormone Imbalance | #29

Episode 29

jeudi 2 novembre 2023Duration 13:59

How do you know if you have hormone imbalance? What are the signs? On this solo, mini episode of the She's Healthy Podcast your host Lori Aikman, Nurse Practitioner and Functional Wellness Coach discusses the top signs of hormone imbalance that she sees in high achieving female clients she works with in her virtual practice. Here are the key takeaways: Menopause can be a time of hormone imbalance. Before periods actually stop your level of progesterone decreases. Estrogen can fluctuate up and down before it finally decreases after periods stop. Low levels of estrogen can cause hot flashes, low mood or depression, vaginal dryness, low libido, trouble sleeping and more. Women trying to concieve (TTC) and struggling with infertility can have hormone imbalance such as low progesterone and low estrogen levels. The top 2 signs of hormone imbalance Lori sees in her high achieving female clients in their 30s & 40S are new and severe fatigue as well as weight gain or trouble loosing weight despite eating healthy and exercising. The stubborn weightloss is often despite doing things that worked for weightloss previously. Hormone imbalance isn’t just a problem with our sex hormones estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. There's often and upstream problem causing the imbalance of sex hormones. The hypothalamus and pituitary gland in your brain are responsible for signaling hormones from your brain to the rest of your body. Perimenopause can be a time of hormone imbalance despite still having regular periods. Other common signs of hormone imbalance are: mood swings, changes in your period or cycle, and trouble sleeping. Thyroid problems like hypothyroidism are often downstream problems. Issues with the adrenal glands and gut dysfunction can trigger thyroid dysfunction. Curious about working with Lori?
