The Human Side of Digital Strategy: Why Connection Beats Clicks Every Time

Season 11 · Episode 15

lundi 8 septembre 2025Duration 37:42

This week, we’re joined by Kaia Maeve Tingley, a visionary who’s redefining the relationship between technology and real life. With over 25 years in IT and two decades as a massage and shiatsu therapist and martial arts instructor, Kaia brings a rare perspective—one that bridges the digital and the embodied.

As the founder of the Web Makers Circle, Kaia helps small business owners and founders build websites rooted in trust, authenticity, and human connection—without the hype, hustle, or cookie-cutter templates. Her journey from corporate marketing and B2B sales to creating her own approach was sparked by seeing just how disconnected most digital strategies can feel.

In this conversation, we explore how Kaia blends tech expertise with embodiment practices to create online spaces that truly reflect who people are and what they offer. From her workshops and cohort-based programs to her unique 1:1 sessions that combine bodywork and web design, Kaia shows us what’s possible when technology is put back in service of human values.

If you’ve ever felt frustrated by digital strategies that feel shallow or misaligned, this episode will inspire you to imagine—and build—a new way forward.

The Weight of Ignorance: Terri M. Roberts on Feminist Theory & Fitness Pedagogy

Season 11 · Episode 14

lundi 1 septembre 2025Duration 51:44

This week, we sit down with Terri M. Roberts — educator, speaker, researcher, and founder of The Pink Dumbbell Problem. With over 20 years of experience in education and leadership, Terri brings a powerful voice to the intersections of fitness, feminism, and philosophy.

As the creator of The Pink Dumbbell Problem YouTube channel, based on her groundbreaking master’s thesis, Terri is the first researcher to connect feminist theory and agnotology—the study of ignorance—with fitness instruction pedagogy. Through this work, she challenges stereotypes about women’s abilities and reshapes how we think about movement, strength, and societal expectations.

Terri’s journey is also deeply personal. After surviving a devastating car crash caused by an impaired driver, she has become a voice for resilience—sharing how fitness training supported her recovery and inspiring others through her advocacy with MADD Canada.

Her impact spans far beyond the gym: she has served as Executive Director of the NSFA, contributed nationally to fitness leadership education, and received numerous awards including the MSVU Alumnae Legacy Award for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal for services to education.

In addition to her fitness and advocacy work, Terri is also a published author of Celtic language learning books, bringing her love of culture and education into classrooms and teacher training programs.

Join us for a conversation that explores the power of knowledge, resilience, and reimagining what’s possible when we challenge societal narratives.

John Swain - Helping Small Businesses Succeed

Season 3 · Episode 9

lundi 25 octobre 2021Duration 30:47

John once lived in Bermuda. For some reason sun and sand just didn’t appeal to him the same way as the cold, harsh, Nova Scotia winters. Despite this quirk John is, last time we checked, perfectly sane. So we’ll have to suppose his love of Bridgewater comes from family ties and long standing community connections. When not pursuing his dream of being the president of an accounting firm founded on the/principles/of providing anxiety reduction and personalized support for small business owners, he’s cooking, playing/old-time/rock& roll, and fussing just a little too much over his hair. He also, along with his wife, encourages his two daughters to be the best people they can be through community involvement and charitable giving.

Before hanging his own shingle John worked with excellent companies like Grant Thornton, Bank of Bermuda, and Olympia Capital.  His company, Swain CPA have offices in Bridgewater and Halifax Nova Scotia and serve all the Canadian provinces.

John’s community investment includes being a Committee Member of ‘Christmas on the LaHave’, Past Director Bridgewater Area Chamber of Commerce, Past Director Lunenburg West PC Association, Founding Chair of Lunenburg County Young Professionals Network, Past Director of Finance St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Past Deputy Grand Knight Knights of Columbus, current Board Member with Devour! The Food Film Fest, committee member for 100 Bluenosers Who Care & Champion for the MIT REAP Team South Shore.

Alan Pink - Helping Tenants get a Commercial Lease that Supports Them

Season 3 · Episode 8

lundi 18 octobre 2021Duration 27:42

Negotiating a  new lease is challenging work. You are making a long term financial commitment so it is important to understand the terms and processes being described in complicated legalistic language. Alan can help. Reviewing and negotiating new leases is something he has been doing for 16 years — he has negotiated over 200 of them. Before you sign a lease, it is comforting to know it was reviewed by someone that is putting your interests first. He started doing this because he was working on leases for a large company with 117 locations and many of those leases were written to favor the Landlord. Some commercial leasing agents did not seem to be truly working on his behalf so he had to learn how to be a good advocate for his company. He would like to share the skills he gained through that experience.
