What if modern motherhood advice feels off?
Moms Off The Record is a podcast for mothers who question the cultural narratives around motherhood and revere ancestral wisdom in our modern world.
Mainstream culture often normalizes separating the motherbaby dyad, outsourcing maternal intuition to “experts,” and following routine advice without exercising discernment or asking questions. Here, we have the nuanced conversations that don’t fit into the fast-paced, dopamine-driven Instagram world.
This podcast examines the intersection of maternal intuition and compelling evidence.
Topics include breastfeeding, matrescence, cosleeping, parenting, potty training, hunter-gatherer societies, and holistic health.
Episodes air every Tuesday.

#72: Modern Feminism - When Liberation Became Isolation
Season 3 · Episode 21
vendredi 7 novembre 2025 • Duration 01:29:51
What started as a movement for dignity has become an ideology of disconnection.
In this episode, we trace the evolution of feminism, from its early roots in moral equality to its modern rebranding as sameness, independence, and career-first identity. We explore how the cultural promise of “having it all” has often left women feeling fragmented, overextended, and unfulfilled.
From the economic engineering that made two incomes a necessity, to the corporate and political forces that turned liberation into labor, we unpack how the feminist movement has been co-opted, and how that shift continues to affect families, children, and the very soul of womanhood.
This isn’t about going backward; it’s about remembering what was sacred. We discuss how honoring biological design, polarity, and the divine dance between masculine and feminine could be the key to restoring balance, in our homes, our relationships, and within ourselves.
True liberation isn’t doing everything alone. It’s remembering that we were designed to thrive together.

#71: Motherhood, Politics, and the Power to Change Your Mind with Lucy Biggers of The Free Press
Season 3 · Episode 20
vendredi 24 octobre 2025 • Duration 01:14:58
We’re joined by journalist and former climate activist Lucy Biggers of The Free Press (and formerly NowThis) to talk about the surprising intersection of motherhood and politics, and what happens when we’re brave enough to reexamine our deeply held beliefs.
Now a mom of two toddlers, Lucy shares how motherhood reshaped her worldview, inviting her to question ideological narratives she once championed. Together, we explore what it means to humbly change your mind in a polarized world and why motherhood often becomes the great equalizer, forcing us to think not in slogans, but in legacy.
From fossil fuels and climate activism to the dangers of Marxism and socialism, we navigate some of today’s most polarizing conversations with honesty and curiosity. Because when a topic becomes untouchable, we lose our ability to engage, discern, and build a better future for our children.
This one’s for the mothers (and fathers) willing to hold nuance, question dogma, and plant seeds of truth for the next generation.

#62, Bye bye, baby-led weaning! Hello, GAPS! You Can Heal Anything with Kate Pope of @Wildnutritionist
Season 3 · Episode 11
vendredi 30 mai 2025 • Duration 01:10:09
Remember when we were all about baby-led weaning? While many aspects initially appealed to us, and it was admittedly fun to watch our babies feed themselves 100 new foods prior to age 1, our values and priorities have shifted as we have learned what matters most.
Kate Pope, mom of two, nutritionist, certified GAPS practitioner, and founder of the Regenerative Cooking School, explains why and how the GAPS diet is crucial for healing and sealing everyone's gut— from baby's to mom's and beyond— and how the GAPS protocol is what reverses common but not normal symptoms such as eczema, food sensitivities and CMPA (cow's milk protein allergy), just to name a few.
We talk about some taboo foodie topics like the culprit behind the rise in egg and peanut allergies, why sweet potato is not an ideal first food, and those popular plastic food puree pouches our society can't seem to part ways with.

#61: Rediscovering Nuance in Pregnancy and Birth: Recalibrating the Swinging Pendulum
Season 3 · Episode 10
vendredi 16 mai 2025 • Duration 01:12:59
In this episode, we call out the problems that have arisen as a result of adoption of and adherence to the Freebirth Society ideology while also holding space for a woman’s legal and moral right to choose to have a Freebirth.
Ultimately, this is about the need for leaders to act in integrity and for everyone to remember that rarely two truths exist in extremes.
All choices are valid, however in order for them to be authentically empowered, they must be made with true informed consent and an informed risk assessment which is unlikely to happen if a birthworker has solely received a virtual training rooted in biases, hyperbole, and a lack of evidence, just as much as it’s unlikely to happen with a fearful OB who is encouraging weekly routine ultrasounds and a 39 week induction.
We unpack the overused and misused phrase “variations of normal” in order to delineate a few examples of what would actually be abnormal and a reason to seek additional support.
Freebirth continues to be a valid choice, however women deserve to have the full scope of outcomes objectively presented to them in all fairness.
Risk is inherently everywhere, and there will always be a mysterious element to loss, however the key is to walk into your pregnancy with a true sense of confidence and options rather than a false sense of one.

#60: An Orthodox, Jewish Man’s Concerns with Circumcision with Eli Ungar-Sargon of Bruchim
Season 3 · Episode 9
vendredi 2 mai 2025 • Duration 01:14:03
DISCLAIMER: We graciously welcome guests and organizations who may have shared opposing viewpoints on a variety of topics, so as to not perpetuate an echo chamber environment. We recognize we will not align on every topic with every guest we invite. Bruchim does not endorse other stances and philosophies we have shared in various episodes of our podcast. We encourage respectful discourse, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have interviewed Eli.
In part two of our Circumcision series, we are joined by a Jewish man! Rarely do we ever have a man on our podcast, but because this is a practice performed on men— and often times, Jewish men— we needed to hear Eli's takes directly from the source.
Eli Ungar-Sargon is the Founding Executive Board member of the non-profit, Bruchim, and host of the Bruchim podcast. Eli grew up in an Orthodox Jewish family in Brookline, MA. At the age of 13, he and his family moved to Israel, where he later decided not to serve in the Israel Defense Forces. Instead, he chose to study medicine in the UK. Three years into his medical degree, Eliyahu shifted his focus to filmmaking. After earning two degrees from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he completed his first feature-length documentary, Cut: Slicing Through the Myths of Circumcision.
Bruchim's mission is to advocate for non-circumcising Jews in Jewish life, and to educate about the rich diversity of Jewish perspectives on circumcision and its alternatives.
We discuss:
- What was the pivotal moment that shaped Eli's opinion about circumcision?
- Can you still be considered Jewish if you are not circumcised?
- What's the alternative to a bris?
- How do Eli's personal views about circumcision compare to Bruchim's views as an organization?
- Is there a positive trend of Jewish families globally opting out of circumcision?
- How to be critical of circumcision without entering antisemitic territory?
- What are common antisemitic tropes about circumcision?
- How do you have tough conversations with other members of the tribe about circumcision?

#59: The Case Against Circumcision with Intactivist Georganne Chapin, MPhil, JD
Season 3 · Episode 8
vendredi 18 avril 2025 • Duration 01:12:59
We kick off our two-part Circumcision series— a topic you all have been begging us to cover for the last two years!— with none other than the Executive Director and Chairperson of Intact America, Georganne Chapin MPhil, JD.
There is nothing we shy away from in this episode. Don't worry, we don't walk on any egg shells. While debunking common circumcision myths, like how this surgery helps to prevent UTIs, STDs, and HIV, is fun and intriguing, Georganne reminds us that it's important to shift our focus away from debunking myths (don't worry, we still do!) and instead onto exercising our innate common sense about the necessity of this practice. You'll hear about the origins of this surgery, which countries do it and why, and the undeniably uncomfortable details of the procedure itself. This isn't for the faint of heart, but if you are going to put your son through this, then you should know what it entails, FULLY.
Georganne explains why circumcision is not exclusively a men's issue, and why circumcision has a lasting effect on women from the mothers of circumcised sons to the future female partners of circumcised men. Women DO have a voice in the circumcision debate, and soon-to-be moms should not sit on the sidelines while tasking their husbands to call the shots on this permanent, life-altering choice on behalf of their son.
We learn about the lasting trauma of the procedure, the function and benefit of foreskin, how the trends and stats have changed over time in regard to the choice to circumcise, and why we prefer the term "intact" over "uncircumcised."

#57: Raising Cooperative, Kind and Compassionate Children with Michaeleen Doucleff of "Hunt, Gather, Parent"
Season 3 · Episode 6
vendredi 21 mars 2025 • Duration 01:29:29
What can we Westerners learn about raising intrinsically happy, self-sufficient, and helpful children from the Maya of Mexico, the Inuit of the Arctic Circle and the Hadza of Tanzania? Well, it turns out, a lot!
WEIRD cultures (Western, educated, industrialized, rich, and democratic) have been making parenting unnecessarily more difficult than it was designed to be. From helicopter and free-range parenting, to distracting children instead of intentionally involving them in quotidian household responsibilities, we are unwittingly becoming the source of our modern-day parenting grievances.
With the help of Michaeleen Doucleff, mother and New York Times best-selling author of one of our favorite reads, “Hunt Gather Parent,” we break down modern-day parenting myths and turn to our much wiser, indigenous peers for the practical tips we’re all yearning for when we are in the trenches of motherhood.

#56: Can You Be Friends if You Don’t Share The Same Values or Beliefs?
Season 3 · Episode 5
vendredi 7 mars 2025 • Duration 01:00:49
Back in our original fashion exchanging our uncensored opinions between just the two of us, we examine whether it is possible to maintain friendships with people who see the world through a different lens.
We analyze when it is possible and even encouraged to maintain friendships with people who have opposing viewpoints versus when this feat proves to be a fruitless effort.
We share personal anecdotes which illustrate when our differences with others have brought us closer together and when these fundamental differences have driven us farther apart, and if that means the end of the friendship for good.
We philosophize about the impact topics like politics and medical freedom have over our friendships and whether it matters if your closest friends are virtual or in person.
In an age of dogma and division, we emphasize the lost art of toeing the line of nuance.
Join us for more of these dicussions on the inside of our virtual community, rebelliUS.

#55: The Bioethical and Medical Risks of Big Fertility: Surrogacy, IVF, and Sperm Donation with Jennifer Lahl
Season 3 · Episode 4
vendredi 21 février 2025 • Duration 01:09:09
Today’s guest, Jennifer Lahl, is the founder of The Center for Bioethics and Culture Network. Lahl couples her 25 years of experience as a pediatric critical care nurse, a hospital administrator, and a senior-level nursing manager with a deep passion to speak up for those who have no voice.
Women are often sold on surrogacy, IVF, and sperm donation as either a beautiful way to help a family in need or the best solution to their fertility issues. The problems with the solutions Big Fertility pushes extend beyond a lack of informed consent; there are not only significant medical risks for moms and their future children (which are often downplayed or not mentioned at all) as well as bioethical concerns which many have never even considered until well after consenting to one of these reproduction methods.
If we continue on this transhumanist trajectory, we can expect so see the normalization and encouragement of artificial eggs and wombs.
On the bright side, the tides are turning. Countries are waking up to the harms of some of these practices and setting firm boundaries to protect women and children. Some countries, like America, unfortunately still operate like the Wild West and put the wellbeing of mothers and children last at the expense of the desires of intended parents. Thanks to spreading awareness, women are realizing they have other, more biologically-supportive and ethical options when it comes to starting a family.
