Welcome to episode 19 of the Lovecars on the Grid podcast!
Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman return with another roundup of motorsport events from the past week. Unfortunately, our audio isn't quite as good as last week, as Tiff joins us on his mobile phone. Apologies for any inconvenience to our listeners!
This week we have F1, W Series, British GT, Touring Cars and NASCAR! Kicking off in Miami with Formula 1! The event was very well hyped, with even a fake marina and boats on show! Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen performed a trademark, bold move on the first corner, and took the race win. Mercedes had a disappointing race, finishing in 5th and 6th with lots of porpoising going on.
The W Series was supporting the F1 in Miami. It was a perfect win for Jamie Chadwick, with 2 wins this weekend. Last year's Winner, Alice Powell ended up stalling on the grid and finishing in 6th place.
The World Endurance Championship was at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium. It was typically Spa weather, with lots of rain. The #7 Toyota was victorious, driven by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose Maria Lopez, beating Alpine in 2nd place.
The World Touring Cars started their season with a reverse grid at the Circuit de Pau Ville. The win went to Argentine driver, Nestor Girolami.
British GT was taking place at Silverstone, with a win for Barwell Motorsport in their Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO.
NASCAR was at the famous old oval, Darlington. We had a very controversial ending, with some questionable driving for Winner Joey Logano, who drove into William Byron and put the leader into the wall.
This weekend, we have Indycar at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. IMSA are at the mid-Ohio course. Moto GP is back at the Le Mans Bugatti circuit in France. Formula E has a double header in Berlin and then in Britain we have the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch!

You join the duo this week in America, as we film at the Triple F Collection, with some incredible cars behind Tiff and Paul, including a La Ferrari!
We pay tribute to begin with to Ayrton Senna. On this day in 1980, a young Tiff Needell qualified for the Belgian Grand prix, sharing the back row with Emerson Fittipaldi!
Moto GP took place at the Circuito de Jerez in Spain, with a win for Ducati rider, Francesco Bagnaia, ahead of championship leader, Fabio Quartararo, who finished in second on his Yamaha. In Moto2, Japanese rider, Ai Ogura won on his Honda, whilst in Moto3, Spanish rider Izan Guevara took the win on his Gas Gas.
The DTM cars were at Portimao, with wins for both Audi and Mercedes. Rally driver, Sebastian Loeb was driving a Ferrari, rising to 16th and 18th during the races.
Formula E were at Monaco, with Mitch Evans on pole in his Jaguar. Evans couldn't continue at the same pace with his energy plan, resulting in Mercedes driver, Stoffel Vandoorne winning the E-prix in Monaco. Evans did manage a 2nd place though!
Brands Hatch had one of the biggest crowds ever for the GT cars. The Doctor, Valentino Rossi was driving one of the GT3 cars, scoring his first points this weekend in his Audi.
With it being a bank holiday in the UK this weekend, the British Superbikes at Oulton Park are still taking place! Indycar was a race all about strategy at the Grand Prix of Alabama. There were cars stopping for fuel, whereas other cars were going for longer stints, making for an epic race! Rinus VeeKay managed to get pole position in qualifying, but had a slow out lap due to having cold tyres, leaving the win to Pato O'Ward, with Veekay finishing 3rd place. Ex Formula 1 star, Romain Grosjean caused a bit of trouble with some wheel banging during overtakes.
The IMSA Sports cars were at the Laguna Seca Circuit. Acura managed a 1, 2 finish, with the Brits Oliver Jarvis and Tom Blomqvist bringing home the second place.
NASCAR was supposed to be racing in Dover, but was postponed due to poor weather. They are in fact racing today! Who will win? In other news, Porsche and Audi have announced that they will be entering Formula 1! Sadly, this doesn't mean that there will 4 new cars on the grid. Instead, Porsche will partner up with Red Bull, whilst Audi is expected to partner with the Sauber Alfa Romeo team.
Next week, we have a new Formula 1 circuit, at the Miami Grand Prix! With lots of overtaking opportunities, it's set to be an exciting race! At Spa in Belgium we have the LMP2 cars. The British GT Championship comes to Silverstone, then we have NASCAR at Darlington Raceway!
The most dramatic weekend in motorsport of the year! On the Grid Podcast
lundi 25 avril 2022 • Duration 31:07
Welcome to episode 17 of the Lovecars on the Grid podcast! Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman bring us the news on the motorsport events from around the World, and this week has been a busy one!
We kick off with the dramatic events of Formula 1. We had a Ferrari meltdown at Imola, disappointing the Tifosi after Sainz crashing out in qualifying after a clash with Daniel Ricciardo. Charles LeClerc put his Ferrari into a wall when trying to go for the fastest lap. The Red Bull cars of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez came through, with Verstappen winning the race. 3rd and 4th wen to two British drivers, Lando Norris and George Russell.
The support races were dramatic, with a win for Théo Pourchaire in F2, and Roman Stanek in Formula 3. We apologise again to Jonny Edgar for forgetting his name last week and we hope he gets well soon.
We had a dramatic weekend in BTCC too, with overtakes involving 3 or 4 cars wide at Donington Park. We also had the Porsches, Ginettas and Minis racing. The highlight of the BTCC for us was Jake Hill, who finished 3rd in the first race, but got thrown out for ride height infringement and put to the back of the grid. He ended up winning the race!
Even more drama in the NASCAR race at the Talladega Superspeedway. With the 200MPH back straight, we were expecting lots of incidents. There was just the one crash on the back straight, where cars were four a breadth, causing a massive crash with up to 20 cars off the track as a result. The lead changed 29 times in the last lap, with Kyle Larsson against Erik Jones.
We had both World Superbikes and Moto GP this weekend. The Superbikes were at their Dutch round. In the final race, Razgatlioglu and Rea clashed and took each other off the track.
Moto GP was very dramatic at the Algarve International Circuit in Portugal. Fabio Quartararo was triumphant on his Yamaha. There was turn 1 drama, with riders out braking each other and taking each other out. The biggest drama on the bikes was in Moto 2, where riders had to flee safety after Zonta Van Den Goorbergh's bike went up in flames. No less than 15 bikes all went down in the same corner, thanks to some rain on the track.
Jake Dixon was on pole for the restart, with 7 laps to go. Unfortunately, the drama continued, where he lost his front wheel and lost the pole position with a crash. The most dramatic event of the weekend was at World Rally Championship in Croatia. With poor weather, we had a lot of punctures from the gravel and rocks. We started off with drama, with crashes and punctures from the beginning of the race. We had plenty of crashes, and even flames from Oliver Solberg's car.
The drama came down to the last two stages, as Kalle Rovanpera's Toyota was on track for the comfortable win. In the penultimate, 19th stage, we had torrential rain! Rovanpera's ended up losing the lead to Hyundai's Ott Tanak. In the final stage however, Rovanpera managed to claw the win back, a great battle between the two drivers.
Next week, we'll be doing this podcast from America! There's no Formula 1, but we have Indycar in Alabama. IMSA Sports cars at Laguna Seca. We have Moto GP at Barcelona, NASCAR and Formula E in Monaco and we have the Superbikes at Oulton Park!

Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman are back with another roundup of motorsport events from the past week. It's been a quiet weekend for motorsport, but a few really exciting events to look forward to!
We have the European Le Mans Series around Circuit Paul Ricard in France. With the LMP2 cars. Sophia Flörsch came second overall. In NASCAR, the cars were at the Bristol oval, driving in the dirt! There was lots of cars spinning, resulting in yellow flags on the track.
The last 30 laps was chaos! There was a last lap, last corner battle, which the win eventually went to Toyota driver, Kyle Busch.
British GT was at Oulton Park with some excitement from the Lamborghini's, Porsches and McLaren GT cars.
The British Superbikes started their season at Silverstone too. We pay tribute to Speedway star, Nigel Pearson. May he rest in peace and our thoughts are with his family and friends.
Next week, we have a lot to look forward to! Formula 1 goes to Imola, who will win this time? Will Ferrari continue their Winning streak? WRC are going to Croatia for their rally for the first time. BTCC are at Donington Park. Moto GP are also at Portiamo. Superbikes are at Assen, and NASCAR are at the Talladega Superspeedway.
A whole day's television to look forward to on Sunday! It's a sad story in Formula 3, where Jonny Edgar has had to withdraw. Our apologies to Jonny for forgetting his name! And get well soon!

On the Superbikes, Turkish rider, Toprak Razgatlıoğlu was fighting against British rider Jonathan Rea and Spanish rider, Alvaro Bautista for the win, which Bautista managed to take from the other two riders.
NASCAR took place at the Martinsville Speedway, in Virginia, where the biggest event of the race was a fight between drivers Ty Gibbs and Sam Mayer, where drivers were fined $15,000 for the punchup. William Byron ended up winning the race in his Chevrolet.
