E56: Cheesy, Rotten Love Languages
Season 3 · Episode 9
mercredi 24 mai 2023 • Duration 54:30
Hot take! In this episode we talk about a common framework for giving and receiving "affection" (and in some contexts, feedback). What are the 5 love languages? Is there any evidence to support them? Where do they go right and where do they go wrong?
Eric gets Sam to try out some homemade goat milk mozzarella, then he reviews Turbulent Consequence Noble Rot, a farmhouse ale by Block 15 (Corvallis, OR).
And remember, don't be a dick, or a twat......or a twat waffle!

They may be your husband, brother, uncle, son, friend, no matter what they are still human. Humans that make some tragic errors. In this episode we talk about the development of males in our culture, how behavior is shaped from birth to play into certain roles, and how we have fused our assumptions about gender to specific behaviors.

She is Not Your Rehab an anti-violence global movement birthed from a community barbershop in Christchurch, New Zealand by husband and wife Mataio and Sarah Brown. The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can Help, by Dr. Jackson Katz, addresses the important issue of gender violence and its prevalence in American culture and society. The Gift of Fear, by Gavin de Becker, covering all the dangerous situations people typically face — street crime, domestic abuse, violence in the workplace — de Becker provides real-life examples and offers specific advice on restraining orders, self-defense, and more. But the key to self-protection, he demonstrates, is learning how to trust our own intuitions. No Visible Bruises, by Rachel Louise Snyder, gives context for what we don’t know we’re seeing. She frames this urgent and immersive account of the scale of domestic violence in our country around key stories that explode the common myths Shop!

Season 2 · Episode 13
samedi 18 septembre 2021 • Duration 01:29:46
Recently ABAI announced a task force to address "historic abuse", and while we support the idea, their execution of this task force raises red flags. The last thing our field needs is professional bullying and performative acts of "listening" to those we serve and effectively maintain the status quo. This is Part 1 of a conversation we have with Jeff Newman, Autistic Activist, Investigator of IDD Abuse and director of a disability service agency.

If you've been following along on social media, we haven't let up on the one place in the country that still uses electric skin shock on humans. As we continue to delve into the problematic history and practices of the JRC, we've uncovered a trove of research supporting claims of effectiveness, generality, and to everyone's surprise, no adverse side effects? Find out about this and more in this episode.

Season 2 · Episode 11
dimanche 15 août 2021 • Duration 57:19
In case you haven't heard, a movement is once again growing, and this fight has been going on behind the scenes for decades. There is a school in Massachusetts that has been using a device to routinely and systematically administer electric shocks to it's residents. Not many people know about it, and even those in our field that do know often turn a blind eye to the abuses that have occurred in the name of treatment. We admit our own ignorance and complacency in the past. But now we know and we share with you all. How did this become a thing and how is continuing to occur? Well, we feel there is some definite cult-like roots and good old boy networking at the core.

We suspended our regular format to have a special discussion this week regarding some major events in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis. We feel its imperative for Behavior Analysts to speak up and speak out publicly to declare our support the disabled community, even if we're not so eloquent about it. We're here, we're listening and we're trying, even if others are not.
