006. 3 Skills to Master First

Episode 6

vendredi 9 septembre 2022Duration 16:40

Can you guess what the 3 skills might be? Is it gardening? Or maybe sourdough making? Maybe it’s chicken keeping? Listen to the podcast to find out.

I wanted to make sure you know about the Off-Grid Homestead Bundle that will be launching on Sept. 16th and ending on Sept. 25th. If you are listening to this after Sept 25th I’m so sorry you missed it. There’s usually a new bundle about every 6 months and I plan to be a part of it again. It’s been an amazing experience.

I really don’t want you to miss this deal. Part of my job as your mentor and coach is to help you save money. We covered that in the checklist series. This bundle is a way for you to save a lot of money. You will be able to learn a ton of different homesteading skills by having access to over 140 digital books and courses. Plus, you will also get my new Homesteading for Beginners workbook in the bundle. The workbook is a more in-depth guide to getting you started. Over 100 different creators collaborated to put this bundle together.

You may even be following some of them on Instagram, Tiktok and Youtube. Be sure to listen to the end of this episode because a few of the creators have recorded a little bit about the products they have in this bundle. I thought it would be a nice touch for you to hear from a few of the creators themselves.

The topic I am discussing today is about skill building. Homesteading really is about skill building. It’s about building skills that allow us to be more self-sufficient and sustainable. It’s about having a set of skills that help ourselves, our families and our communities. It has a lot less to do with land size and more to do with how much we choose to produce instead of just consuming.

  • The private community is no longer available. Please keep listening to the podcast for updates on any community Mona's decided to start.

004. How To Get Started Homesteading: Checklist Part 4

Episode 4

vendredi 26 août 2022Duration 13:57

As a beginner, you are in a very good position because you can set yourself up in a way that avoids some pitfalls that come with this journey by listening to those that have gone ahead of you. I wish I had someone speak to my husband and me about what I’m going to share with you today.

Today we will be going over Part 4 of the Homesteading for Beginners checklist which covers the topic of saving money in preparation for your journey or projects on your homestead.

The topic of money is actually a huge pain point in a homesteader’s journey. If you desire to one day have a piece of property or you have a piece of property and can’t improve it, I share ways for you to find money to add to your homestead savings.

How much you want to save will have to do with what it is you are saving for. If you are saving for a down payment on a house with land, then this is likely going to take a long time but if you are saving for smaller things like a chicken coop then obviously it will take less time.

In either case, the way you save money is by reducing your spending or increasing your income or both. Listen to this episode to find money by reducing your spending and adding it to your savings account.

003. How To Get Started Homesteading: Checklist Part 3

Episode 3

vendredi 19 août 2022Duration 16:20

On a scale of 1- 10, with ten being the highest,  how important do you think dreaming is to your homesteading journey? For me, it's a 10. Why? Because dreaming is where it all begins.

Sure, we can do stuff without dreaming about it. Things can happen to us and for us without even any forethought on our part. But, if you desire to start a journey, that desire starts with dreaming about it.

If you think dreaming is a waste of time, I'm here to tell you it's one of the most important things you can do to set up a healthy homestead.

I share more about this and why I think this is true in this episode and I'll give you some of my own examples of how usefully dreaming has been in my own journey.
