BPH Treatments for Better Erectile Function

Episode 167

lundi 26 août 2024Duration 38:54

Today we are joined by Dr. Joel Hillelsohn, a board-certified urologist at New York University Medical Center. He also serves as a clinical assistant professor at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine. Dr. Hillelsohn joins us to discuss the BPH treatment options and which ones are best suited to facilitate good er*ctile function.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition affecting many men as they age, causing urinary symptoms and potentially impacting s*xual function. While medications like Flomax and finasteride are often prescribed as initial treatments, they can have side effects such as retrograde ejaculation or decreased libido.

Ozempic's Impact on Sexual Function

Episode 166

lundi 12 août 2024Duration 10:01

Today we are joined by Dr. Rahul Mehan, a renowned urologist, who sheds light on the impact of Ozempic on sexual function, particularly in relation to erectile dysfunction. He is also the founder of Snip City, which specializes in vasectomy procedures.

Ozempic, a semaglutide-based GLP-1 agonist, is widely recognized for its effectiveness in managing blood sugar and promoting weight loss, making it a popular choice among those battling obesity and diabetes. However, as its usage expands, there's growing interest in understanding its broader impacts, particularly on sexual function. Recent studies, though limited, have begun to shed light on potential side effects, including a modest increase in the incidence of erectile dysfunction and lower testosterone levels in some men using the medication.

Shockwave Therapy for ED

Episode 157

mardi 16 avril 2024Duration 24:53

Today we are privileged to have Doctor Kevin Chu with us. He is a private practice urologist and men's health specialist in Los Angeles, California. With roots in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he pursued his undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley before attending medical school at the esteemed New York Medical College. Dr. Chu honed his expertise in urology through rigorous training at the University of Miami.

Shockwave therapy, originally developed for kidney stones, utilizes acoustic waves to induce a response in targeted tissues. While the mechanism for kidney stones involves breaking them up, shockwave therapy for ED operates differently. It stimulates the body's natural healing response, promoting neovascularization and tissue regeneration in the penis.

Addressing common concerns, Dr. Chu clarifies that shockwave therapy sessions are non-invasive and generally well-tolerated, with minimal side effects such as mild tingling or bruising. However, he emphasizes the importance of patient selection, cautioning that not all individuals may benefit equally from this treatment.

The Complexities of Erectile Dysfunction | A Case Study, Part 1

Episode 67

lundi 29 novembre 2021Duration 13:43

Our podcast host, certified sex therapist Mark Goldberg, has found that too many men assume their erectile dysfunction is caused by either a physical or mental factor. Many erectile dysfunction cases are complex with both mental and physical factors contributing to the erection problems.

To better explain this, we are launching an in-depth, 4-part miniseries exploring a case study that illustrates how both physical and mental components factor into erection problems.

This series is an educational exploration that might help men and their loved ones better understand how seeking help for the potential physical and mental causes of erectile dysfunction can be a potential game changer.

Stay tuned for the next three episodes that will be released every Monday morning. Next up: we chat with Dr. Robert Segal, the urologist who treated the patient featured in this case study.
