1. Linear is a lie! Forge your own path and know that it’s okay to industry hop. 
2. You have to meet your manager halfway. Figure out what your career aspirations are and communicate that to your manager. Good managers will listen and keep an eye out for opportunities that will help you grow towards those goals. 
3. If you’re in a situation with a bad manager who is not helping you grow, sometimes you have to manage up or press the escape button.
