S4E22 - "The Impossible Dream"
Season 4 · Episode 22
mardi 9 juillet 2024 • Duration 01:17:28
WELCOME BACK!!
This is it, Fellow Babies. Welcome to the FINAL network first-run airing of WKRP. This episode, "The Impossible Dream" had been shelved by the network in the spring of 1982. Now, with a breakout hit on their hands, the network decided to play this never-before-seen episode well into the fall season...the season AFTER WKRP had been cancelled.
It's Les's birthday. The passing of another year has spurred the News Beacon of the Ohio Valley to strive for more in his career. That, and his mother is in town. Les suddenly starts pulling awards off the wall and announces he's headed to New York to take Dan Rather's news-chair.
Jennifer reacts to the birthday and mother-visit news with the same answer: Party Time! She plans a surprise birthday party for Les. For some reason, the guest of honor shows up way early. He's there before any of the other guests! He arrives without his mother and tells Jennifer he hates it for anyone to know about his birthday.
Ms. Marlowe could not be having a worse day. Triple vodkas all around!!
At the party, Les debuts his on-camera demo tape. It's beyond bad. Les realizes he's made a fool of himself and runs out.
Will Les go to New York? Will we meet Les's mother? Will we shudder just a little bit at the overwhelming cringiness of the final three minutes? Spoilers!! The answers would be: no, yes and yes.
Let's join Lester in tilting at some windmills during this FINAL WKRP episode!! Moo-goo, anyone??

[Want to watch along with us? It's a blast!! We highly recommend the 'Shout Factory' boxed DVD set of the entire WKRP series. For reasons you'll have to listen to in the "Prolog" episode, all streaming versions of the original "WKRP in Cincinnati" have had the original music cues removed. Generic music beds and stings were used in place of the original music for the syndicated version of the series. 'Shout Factory' has been able to restore an estimated 85% of all WKRP music cues to the original "as-aired" content for their DVD release. They've also restored scenes that had been cut to shorten episodes for syndication. The original eps ran 25 minutes. The syndication eps were shortened to 22 minutes. Over 88 episodes that's more than four hours of lost content, including the performance by "Detective" at the end of "Hoodlum Rock." Get the COMPLETE series...get the Shout Factory DVDs. The Shout Factory complete series box has a release date of 2014. All individual seasons of Shout Factory disks were released starting in 2015.]

S4E21 - "To Err is Human"
Season 4 · Episode 21
mardi 2 juillet 2024 • Duration 01:07:32
WELCOME BACK!!
This roll of film had fifty pictures of a black guy in a tux holding a bottle of shampoo...and ONE picture of a dorky white guy at a bar-b-que grill. Guess which one the printer chose? Would your answer change if you knew the photographer was Herb Tarlek?
In a career marked by colossal screw-ups, this is one colossal screw-up. Herb's new client "Soul Suds" went the full multi-media promo route. They're utilizing point of purchase display stand-ups featuring WKRP's own Venus Flytrap. Venus is right there at the store shelf promoting the same shampoo he's pitching on the radio. He's in a tux, his hair is looking awesome and he's holding the product. It's coordinated marketing synergy on an unprecedented level! And HERB is running the show!! What could go wrong?
Oh, just the pesky printer mentioned above. Herb told them they should figure anything he said was wrong. They listened to him on this one...the fools. Now Herb is cooking up burgers in convenience and grocery stores all over town while claiming to be a laid-back Venus Flytrap. We can't even see what his hair looks like because he's wearing a HAT!!
This might be all she wrote for Herb. Unless a gorgeous blonde temptress can be found to inspire the client to forgive poor Mr. Tarlek. If only we knew a gorgeous blonde temptress...Jennifer, surprisingly, steps up.
It's a tale of blind...or possibly blonde...ambition, dueling receptionists, deceptive salesmen and the most perceptive CEO Jennifer has ever met. This time beauty is in the ear of the beholder, and a good thing for Herb.
Strap in, fellow babies. It's time to push 'play' and lather up. We're gonna take a ride on the "Soul Suds" train with "To Err is Human" our next to last episode of THE SERIES.

S4E12 - "Jennifer and Johnny's Charity"
Season 4 · Episode 12
mardi 30 avril 2024 • Duration 01:13:51
WELCOME BACK!!
Giant Lizzard ravages East Coast!! Les is at it again...a classic Nessman mess up.
Once Les gets things sorted out with giant reptiles and winter storms, he tells us about a fire at the Vine Street Mission. Turns out, Dr. Fever is a big supporter of the Mission. He was on sight for a live report right after the fire...kinda.
The kitchen at the Mission needs a new roof...to the tune of $40,000! For Johnny, and most mere mortals, this is a big pile of cash. For Ms. Jennifer Marlowe, this amount represents the equivalent of loose change in her friend's couch cushions.
She invites them over for a night of appetizers, martinis and money. She also invites "the gang." She should have specified WHICH gang. Johnny brings a few friends from the mission. They meet Jennifer's friends and the party really heats up!
You can't move the mission! Not even a foot! Especially not up into Price Hill...there's no bums up there! Although the rich folks want to help, they don't understand the intricacies of feeding the perpetually drunk. Johnny and his friends work to set them straight. Eventually, connections are made via exotic dancing and David Niven...or something like that.
Grab a big, steaming bowl of Chicken Gumbo and join us for a night of Zombies, cheese puffs and big donations from some of Cincinnati's finest philanthropists. It's gonna be a hoot!

We have evidence this is not true. We're going to go into detail as we finish out the podcast, but we thought you might like an overview instead of waiting all summer.
Enjoy this explanation, and make sure to join us next Tuesday for our next regular episode, the hilarious "Who's On First?"

S4XTRA01-Cincy Trip Recap w/Bob Gerding & John Kiesewetter
Season 4
mardi 5 avril 2022 • Duration 02:05:34
[For "Choose Your Own Adventure" Info, See Below...]
Hey, Fellow Babies!! The Cincinnati trip was a huge success. We got back just a couple of hours before recording this episode. We had a great time, even if we are a little sore (we walked a LOT!).
There's tons of info in this week's show about the trip!! A tip: check the show Facebook page. All you have to do is search "WKRP-Cast" in Facebook and you'll find us. We mention FB posts a LOT in today's show. If you haven't been following our Epic Adventure, you'll want to take a look at some of our posts. Much of the trip was pretty visual, and we did snap a LOT of pix.
We also caught up with a couple of interesting guys who have had a LOT to do with WKRP over the years. The first was Bob Gerding. Bob is the local Video Pro who shot the opening and all of the exteriors whenever they needed something out in Studio City. Bob has some GREAT stories from working on the show.
THEN we talked to the man who is the dean of Media Reporting in Cincinnati: John Kiesewetter or just "Kiese". Kiese wrote for the Cincinnati Enquirer starting just after WKRP went off network. He followed it through the syndication episodes with the lost music, hacked scenes and awful attempt at a DVD release in 2007. He's talked to every one of the show principles and written about them all multiple times over the years (except maybe Jan). Kiese took us on an incredible tour of Cincinnati looking at it through the lens of WKRP.
We'll have full interviews with both of these guys plus a rundown of our four WKRP-Filled days in Cincinnati. Strap in, Fellow Babies...the Cincinnati tour is leaving as soon as you push "play."
CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE:
Are you ONLY wanting to hear interviews? Only looking for our Cincy Travelogue? Either way, we've got you covered!
- Bob Gerding Interview (30 total mins) - Starts at 24 minutes. FF to listen.
- John Kiesewetter Interview (39 total mins) - Starts at 1h:04 minutes.
- You can hear us being interviewed by Chris & Janeen at 2:00hours.
If you're only wanting travelogue, FF past the interviews the specified times.

S3XTRA03 - ReRelease-"Jennifer's Home for Christmas" (Happy Holidays!!)
Season 3
mardi 28 décembre 2021 • Duration 01:03:35
WELCOME BACK!!
Hey Fellow Babies!! We hope you're enjoying whatever end of year festivities are your custom. We celebrate Christmas, so we're hanging with family over the holidays eating too much and opening presents. Yeah...it also means we're taking the week off!! Fear not!! We didn't want to leave you hanging completely, so we've recorded a new intro for "Jennifer's Home for Christmas", and we are re-running this holiday episode (we originally ran it last May...we also like being able to drop it over Christmas).
Enjoy the festive holiday laughs, then get ready for NEXT week when we finish off "Dr. Fever and Mr. Tide." What a great way to start the new year!!
(Oh, and if "Jen's Home" isn't enough Christmas Cheer for you, make sure to replay "Bah, Humbug" from earlier this winter for more Holiday Hijinks!!)
Okay, Fellow Babies...time to look under the tree and push "Play."

WELCOME BACK!
Hey, Fellow Babies! Guess what? We're still moving! We tore down the audio editor and piled it into the back of a U-Haul with the rest of our stuff on Oct. 13th. Goodbye, Illinois!! (it was fun...but we won't miss the winters!). Hello, Arkansas! (but not as fast as we thought...construction slowdown due to supply chain issues at the new place). We've taken a 2-week hiatus to let us get moved and settled into the new place (and, of course, get to podcastin'!!).
We didn't want to leave you completely KRP-less this week, so we loaded up a favorite episode. Strap in...we're taking a ride with Hamilton Camp as Del Murdoch!! It's "Hold Up"! Have another laugh at "Wingy Mennone" and we will be back with you fresh and new next week. Thanks for bearing with us! -Allen & Donna

Season 3

WELCOME BACK!
Hey, Fellow Babies! The massive "Stare Relocation Tour 2021" is on! We tore down the audio editor and piled it into the back of a U-Haul with the rest of our stuff on Oct. 13th. Goodbye, Illinois!! (it was fun...but we won't miss the winters!). Hello, Arkansas! (in about a week...construction slowdown due to supply chain issues at the new place). Since we knew there was no way to get a new show out for this week, we decided to give you a sample of something. Our Patrons have already heard it (sorry, Patrons...oh, and b-t-dubs: you guys ROCK!!).
We started recording our "First Watch" sessions with each new episode and made them into "Patron Extras." They've been very well received. We thought we'd give you a sample of some of the 'behind-the-scenes" extra content you can get when you support the WKRP-Cast on Patreon. $5 a month!! We're retired...support us in our old age and we'll keep making podcasts!!
Enjoy this "First Watch" sample from Les' Groupie. We've got a re-release loaded up for next week, but we are planning on a NEW SHOW the first week of November!! (come on supply chain!!). Thanks for bearing with us! -Allen & Donna

S2XTRA3 - Re-Release w/New Intro (???)
Season 2
mardi 6 juillet 2021 • Duration 01:04:03
WELCOME BACK!
Hey, Fellow Babies! If you happen to be from the United States, a Happy and Safe Fourth of July to you! If you are from elsewhere, this is the week where happy citizens of the U.S. celebrate their independence by spending a fortune on fireworks and ER visits. We are taking the week off for a little vacation...but we didn't want to leave you hanging without anything to listen to from the WKRP-Cast!! We've done a new intro to our MOST POPULAR download from the first year of the podcast. Got any guesses? It's NOT "Turkeys Away."
We also have a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!! The WKRP-Cast now has a Patreon page! Thanks to you, our audience numbers have become 'viable.' Viable means there are enough of you listening to justify an advertiser spending money on jamming a commercial in front of your ears. Don't get us wrong, we like money but we DON'T like commercials. We'd rather not have one (or two, or three) in the show. The idea of making some money from the show is very attractive. We're nearing a point where JUST podcasting seems like a fun (and possible) career path. This started out as a pandemic hobby. Lately, we find ourselves doing other 'real work' kinds of things and realize, we'd rather be podcasting!!
Hopefully, you value the work we're doing enough to support the show. This is all voluntary. We aren't holding the show hostage or anything. The weekly Tuesday episodes will remain free and available to anyone who wants to listen. We do hope to be adding additional things behind the paywall...more interviews, roundtable discussions, extra background on things we find and, your suggestions! If you're a subscriber, we hope you'll help us tailor the content we provide to subscribers.
Ready to become a patron? It's easy! Here's the link...and thanks!!
