WELCOME BACK, REFINER! Big news! 
The powers that be from Lumon have made a huge announcement. Er, umm...maybe it's the Powers that be at Red Hour/AppleTV+. Whoever it is, they've graced us with a release date. Sure, it's next year and it means there is, technically, a three-year difference between the premier of S1 and the premier of S2. Admittedly, some folks have left the fold, claiming the show is good, but this is far too long to wait for more content. The rest of us, the True Believers, have been willing to hang around for more. It's just too GOOD, isn't it?

So, here's a quick...and I do mean QUICK...like four SECONDS...look at some new stuff coming in the Second Season. We'll even meet one of the new cast members...briefly. 

Spoilers are everywhere. We'll be discussing possible storylines for S2 along with whatever minimal reveals we might find in this trailer. If you're trying to remain totally spoiler-free for S2, you will want to tread lightly here.

For everyone else, if your need for any scrap of info about S2 is making you nuts...you've come to the right place. Enjoy!

WELCOME BACK TO THE SEVERED FLOOR, REFINERS!
Our look at those things that inspired Dan Erickson as he was creating 'Severance' continues!! This time out, we're breaking down the 1990 fairy-tale Rom-com "Joe vs. The Volcano." It stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in their FIRST movie together! It was also written and directed by Oscar and Pulitzer prize-winning writer, John Patrick Shanley. With a pedigree like that, you'd think it would be a better movie! Then again, maybe it's just misunderstood. We're going to delve deeply into it to find out which.

This is Part ONE. We get about halfway through the movie. Be watching for Part TWO when we will finish it up with a big plunge into a Volcano (and, yes, SPOILERS for 'Joe vs. The Volcano!).

IT'S TIME TO END THIS THING, REFINERS!!
Our three part "Truman Show" Origins Odyssey is about to come to an end. Truman's freakout is in full bloom. He crossed the bridge!! (This may or may not mean he has fixed his inner soul).  There's a nuclear plant meltdown, a forest fire and a fugitive escapee in the woods...and that's all in the first 20 minutes of this final Opus.

Meryl must bid us a fond farewell...but don't worry. Christof has found another young actress willing to sleep with the star of the show. We'll meet her, too! 

Oh, and yes, we'll finally have a chance to really sit down with Christof, the creator of "The Truman Show" and the gang in the Lunar Room.  

Truman may have given up on trying to escape...or, maybe, it's his most stunning plot yet!! There comes a time when problems can't be fixed with a beer...but, until that time, we've got Marlon on stand-by with a sixer of Penn Pavel's.

So, if you're ready, it's time to stroll the lovely streets of Seahaven for the final time.

It's time for more "Severed: Origins" as we continue to break down the 1998 Jim Carrey classic, "The Truman Show."

I'm making a long winter meal out of this one, gang. We start this segment by meeting Truman's mother. The lovely Holland Taylor is stellar as "Mom." We hang out with Truman as he's watching some of the offerings on Seahaven's TV channel. 

Truman hears some weirdness on the radio and sees a LOT of weirdness in a building elevator. He follows both Meryl and Marlon to work then decides he HAS to get off the island. Flights are a month out (it's the busy season!) and the bus is smoking. Mr. Burbank figures he'll drive his way off the island. 

Don't miss out, Refiners!! Following Truman around Seahaven is the most fun you can have in single digit temps!! Is it going to take me ten hours to get through this two-hour movie?? Find out, NEXT TIME...but for now, enjoy this one.

The 'Severed' ORIGINS Series continues with a look at a fun an interesting movie from 1998. This time out, we take on "The Truman Show" directed by Peter Weir and Starring Jim Carrey, Ed Harris and Laura Linney.

In this installment, we learn about the long and twisting path this movie took when it came to getting both a director and a script. We'll actually hit 'play' and fire it up. That's when we'll meet Christof, Louis and Hannah. Although Truman doesn't know Christof at all and he thinks Hannah's name is Meryl and Louis' name is Marlon. It's a weird existence on Seahaven...especially if your name is Truman.

This is one of the movies that inspired Dan Erickson as he was creating "Severance." It's easy to see how Truman is the perpetual innie. Christof is like a distant Jame Eagan, running the show without his charge even knowing it.

It's a fun, well-made, interesting movie that is still talked about in media ethics classes. Get ready to hit 'play', Refiner. We're headed to Seahaven!!

WELCOME BACK, REFINER!! This week, the "Severed: Origins" series is taking a look at a masterpiece created by a French Madman. His name is Jacques Tati and the film we'll be discussing is his 1967 opus "Play Time." "Play Time" is like no film you've ever seen. We'll get into just exactly why it's so different. Since it is so different, I can't even break it down the way I would normally review a movie. I'll explain, and we'll get into it...kinda.

Tati doesn't believe much in plot, character or close-ups. How is it possible to create a movie without those things? Oh, Tati manages...to the point what he created has been called by some the greatest movie ever made. It's a weird little sideshow well worth examining. Don't miss "Play Time" as a part of "Severed: Origins."
