This week, The Idiots discuss VPAs, or...ya know what, I am not going to tell you what a VPA is because it takes away the mystery. This is what they call in the show biz "a teaser". Are you interested? I hope so! Anyway, Dr. Kent compares VPAs to something similar in human medicine, and they discuss potential goods and bads of VPAs. Just listen. Hey everyone! Meet Jae. They are an awesome listener/fan who reached out, has some things to say about being in the vet world as a rookie, sometimes scared, sometimes not knowing what to expect, but feeling their way through and getting better every day. Listen up, because they also talk about what it takes to be a great client and what to avoid to not be a boneheaded one! Plus, talks of bottle feeding kittens. So, pull up a seat at the proverbial table, grab a beer (except Jae, Jae will be drinking a soda or juice or something because they're a youngin'), and learn to not just respect your elders, but your younger generation, because they have something worth listening to. 

Huge thank you, also, to Jae for this episode. We recorded it 3 times. The first two times, the files were lost (see previous episode in Spooky Season about why Cory has to use his wife's computer for the time being), this time, it recorded, but for some reason, our program ONLY worked with cell phones. Fate was not kind to us this time around. I will say, I am incredibly impressed with the sound quality I got from her AirPod Pros, and if Apple wants to sponsor us in the form of, say, a couple new MacBooks, some new AirPod Pros (especially for Kent), and a suitcase full of money (not milk), we would kindly accept!

Welcome back to another riveting episode where the boys inevitably get distracted and go on tangents. However, along the way, the Idiots talk noses. You know, snoots, boopers, snozzes, sniffers, cold wet presses...the list goes on. Learn about some of the super amazing functions of the nose, why they're better with theirs than you'll ever be with yours, and imagine being able to see the world by scent. Also, there were supposed to be some links for references, but you'll have to google that yourself because Cory lost the list and doesn't feel like hearing Kent complain. Again. So, the research is from blubity bloo. Trust me, that will make sense in the context of the episode. Also, if you listen closely, you can hear the cameo of multiple birds on the window bird feeder adding their two cents to the conversation. No one asked, though. Very pushy, insistant, really. 

Cue the freaky deaky theremin music, because this week the Idiots talk toxoplasmosis, an infection that lives in cat poo (and unwashed veggies and undercooked meat) that affects brains. All mammals can be affected, but rats and mice are affected the most. However, humans can also be greatly affected. Listen this week to learn more about this disease, and to find out you may actually already have it....

In an Idiots first, the guys take on a three part episode, covering a very breviated history of wolves becoming dogs, then how different breeds came about, going into breeds that have gone extinct over the years or were rolled into other breeds, and then concluding with a discussion about bringing one breed, the French Bulldog, away from the brink of extinction.

In this, they discuss French Bulldogs, who were thiiiiiiissssss close to being extinct, and how some lady I'm too lazy to go back and listen or look up saved them. She's a hero, though. They talk again about selective breeding, and how even foxes have been bred to be closer to dogs, and slowly develop floppy ears in place of their pointy ears.

Welcome to part 2. This week the Idiots talk about breeds going extinct, but also dabble in how some could be saved or became other breeds. They discuss what makes a breed a breed, and some other stuff. Idk. I was too busy looking things up for them. 

In an Idiots first, the guys take on a three part episode, covering a very breviated history of wolves becoming dogs, then how different breeds came about, going into breeds that have gone extinct over the years or were rolled into other breeds, and then concluding with a discussion about bringing one breed, the French Bulldog, away from the brink of extinction.

Part 1 is the discussion of wolves, specifically a breed of wolf that no longer is on this planet, most likely because it assimilated quietly into modern dogs. They talk of how dogs spread throughout the world, the cause of them joining human ranks, why a symbiotic relationship was so important it came to what we have today, and discuss other things, like ring evolution (editors note, Cory talks about birds on Darwin Island and erroneously refers to them as wrens, but they were actually finches) and selective breeding for working needs. 

The Idiots have talked about what it's like when you're an established vet, what it's like going through vet school, and what it's like in internships, residencies, and clinicals, but that murky inbetween has not been breached. That's where Dr. Maddy Golichowski (or as Kent says "Gahlowzzskckksheeee") comes in. Dr. Maddy is well into her second year as a practicing vet, which allows her the hindsight of a first year without the distance in time obscuring her view. We talk pros, cons, and difficulties with being green in the field. Listen up, this rookie is going to do great things, and The Idiots were happy to be along for the ride. 

We did a crossover thing! The lovely Dr. Amy Pike and Dr Amy Learn were gracious enough to share a show with us. Vet Med For Idiots By Idiots collides with Behavior Buzzzzzz with 2 Amys, and the result is wonderful. Lots of laughs, lots of information, much of it to do with simplifying dog behavior, understanding how to interpret their mannerisms and actions, and why some things get confused due to outdated thoughts. Also, Dr. Kent ALMOST laughs at Cory's joke, so that's exciting.
