"Labyrinth"

Season 4 · Episode 2

vendredi 7 novembre 2025Duration 38:28

Don't get lost, find your way through Labyrinth with the help of Uncultured Twenties!

The 1986 fantasy film is an autumnal watch, with it's longevity resting on the thoughtful character design and nostalgic vibe created by Jim Henson of The Muppets.

Full of references to classical literature, Labyrinth is a treasure hunt for '80s lovers. From cultural icon David Bowie as the goblin king, to a young Jennifer Connelly, the gained a large cult following after it's lukewarm release.

Will you join the goblin king?

"Rumours"

Season 4 · Episode 1

dimanche 26 octobre 2025Duration 47:15

The rumours are true...Uncultured Twenties is back! In this series opener, Lian and Julia discuss the heart-breakingly honest album Rumours by Fleetwood Mac.

Go into any analog fanatic's collection, and you'll be sure to find this vinyl from 1977. From being inducted to the Grammy Hall of Fame to Bill Clinton's presidential campaign soundtrack to inspiring Emmy-nominated miniseries Daisy Jone & the Six, the album is reflected in multiple decades of pop culture.

With fans still hypothesizing the relationships between the members, it's no wonder Rumours has intrigued generations. Sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll at it's finest!

We’re excited to be back on a less-than-regular schedule. Just like Fleetwood Mac, we’re turbulent. Not in a romantic way, but more in a life-is-crazy-help-us kind of way. And we love each other through it! Follow us on socials to keep up with new episodes:

"Twilight"

Season 3 · Episode 1

vendredi 24 mai 2024Duration 28:31

No one can deny that Twilight has had a major cultural impact. From tattoos to dolls to museums to parody films, the book turned film series is multi-billion dollar industry that is still active today.

In this series opener, Lian and Julia indulge in their Twihard roots while examining the disturbing undertones and outright racism.

Maybe there is a better love story than Twilight...

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show"

Season 2 · Episode 5

samedi 21 octobre 2023Duration 20:22

Happy Halloween! We're doing the time warp and uploading something scary: our FIRST EVER recorded episode!

RHPS is a definition cult classic. Hated by the mainstream, but adopted by the fringe. It's been parodied and referenced by Glee, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, That '70s Show, The Simpsons and so many more. The film is often accompanied by a 'shadow cast' mocking and shouting at the screen - and audience participation is heavily encouraged.

Lian and Julia reminisce about attending the show, the queer experience and their plans to go again this Halloween. Back to regular TIFF scheduling next week!

"Frybread Face and Me" ft. Billy Luther

Season 2 · Episode 4

dimanche 15 octobre 2023Duration 32:13

It's 1990 and all Benny wants is to see Fleetwood Mac in concert with his mom. Instead, he gets shipped off to his grandma's for the summer. On the Navajo reservation all he can do is watch Starman and play with his action figures, until his cousin Dawn shows up and opens his world.

Writer-director Billy Luther says this film is "a tribute to our elders" and is influenced by his life. We are so lucky to have him on as a guest in this episode as he tells us about the immersive set design, life-changing music and working with Taika Waititi.

Season 2 · Episode 3

samedi 7 octobre 2023Duration 28:58

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, this is a podcast!

We recount The Talking Heads’ classic concert movie. Originally directed by Jonathan Demme in 1983, the 4K restoration premiered at TIFF with a live Q&A hosted by Spike Lee.

The new wave band made 4 albums in 4 years, though their time was cut short by internal drama and power dynamics. Julia tells us about their highly anticipated reunion and their influence. If you are a fan of Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem or Blondie this is right up your alley.
