We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Karen Binder-Brynes to The Style That Binds Us podcast. Dr. Karen is a leading Psychologist with a private practice in New York City. She provides individual as well as marital, family and group psychotherapy. In addition, Dr. Binder-Brynes is a leading expert in the field of posttraumatic stress. She has worked with front line COVID-19 first responders, firefighters after 9/11, survivors of the Holocaust, and she counseled the Episcopal priests in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and more. She has contributed to The New Yorker, Tracy Anderson, Bustle, Vogue, Goop, CNN among others. She is the mother of two daughters, and she now has three grandchildren as well. Today, Dr. Binder-Brynes is giving us her top tips on how to prevent & recover from burnout & chronic stress and more.

Carolyn was the first woman to represent New York City's 7th Council district (where she was the first woman to give birth while in office). She was also the first woman to chair the Joint Economic Committee. She became the first woman to chair the House Committee on Oversight and Reform. She was the first to offer a comprehensive package of legislation to make day care more available and affordable. She introduced a bill to establish Permanent Authorization of the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund Act which was signed into law; she advocated to provide Medicare coverage for annual mammograms. Congresswoman Maloney has introduced and advocated for legislation regarding issues such as sexual assaults, sex trafficking, women’s rights and childcare to name a few; she played a role in getting an American Women’s History Museum on the National Mall and is advocating for the Equal Rights Amendment.

We are so excited to have Carol Spencer, former designer for the Barbie doll on our podcast! We first learned about Carol when she participated in a webinar with National Arts Club. Carol is the author of “Dressing Barbie: A Celebration of the Clothes That Made America's Favorite Doll and the Incredible Woman Behind Them.” She started working at Mattel in 1963 and created the image we know of as Barbie.
