#75 What if Moving Abroad Doesn’t Fix Your Life? Let’s Talk About It.
Season 1 · Episode 75
mardi 10 septembre 2024 • Duration 42:11
“What if I move abroad and it doesn’t fix my life?”
If you wake up at 2am with this thought coursing through your mind, you’re not alone. Many people dream of starting over in a new country, hoping it will bring them the happiness or fulfillment they feel is missing. But there’s often a nagging fear: What if I still don’t feel fulfilled? What if the grass isn’t greener on the other side?
In today’s episode, we’re diving headfirst into this fear. We’ll explore why moving abroad might not solve all your problems—and why that’s okay. I’ll share practical advice for finding happiness and fulfillment no matter where you are, along with my personal story as an Enneagram 7 who’s constantly chasing “the next big thing” I'm SURE will make me happy.
I’ll also share how I struggled with these same feelings while living abroad and how I’ve learned to be present and appreciate the here and now—without the pressure of traditional gratitude lists (because, let’s be honest, those can feel a bit forced).
Bonus: If you’ve been dreaming of moving abroad but still don't have a concrete plan in place to make it happen, my Move Abroad Escape Plan Bootcamp is for you! This 4-day live event will guide you step-by-step in creating a personalized plan for your move—whether it’s choosing the right country, figuring out how to fund your life abroad, or setting a timeline that makes sense.

#74 No Fluency Required: How to Move Abroad Without Speaking the Language
Season 1 · Episode 74
mardi 3 septembre 2024 • Duration 48:16
Ever tried to order a meal in a foreign country and ended up with something totally unexpected? Like that time I asked for a "tomato salad" in France and got a plate of just tomatoes. Language barriers can lead to some pretty funny situations, but they can also feel intimidating when you're thinking about moving abroad.
In today's episode, we're diving deep into the world of language learning and breaking down why moving to a country where you don't speak the language isn't as scary as it might seem. I'll share my personal experiences from living in countries like China, Vietnam, and Georgia—places where I either had to learn the language from scratch or get by without speaking it fluently.
Spoiler alert: you don’t need to be fluent to survive and thrive!
What You'll Learn:
- Why Language Shouldn’t Hold You Back
- Practical Tips for Learning a New Language
- Navigating Life Without Speaking the Local Language
- Can You Get a Job on the Ground Without Fluency?
- Why Your Mindset is Everything.

If you’ve been holding off, thinking that a magical, perfect moment will come, it's time to rethink. We'll dive into how waiting for perfection is a form of self-sabotage and why you should take action now.
I’ll also chat about common excuses people use to delay their move, like busy work seasons, important life events, lease agreements, and selling a house. Plus, I'll share strategies to overcome these hurdles.

#64 No You DON'T Have to Hate the US to Move Abroad
Season 1 · Episode 64
mardi 2 juillet 2024 • Duration 48:46
Let's clear up a big misconception—not everyone who moves abroad hates their home country. You can absolutely love your country, be frustrated by it, and still want to fix the things you don’t like. And guess what? You can do all that while living overseas.
In this episode, we’ll explore the concept of running towards something you desire, instead of just running away from what you don’t. It’s all about focusing on what you want in life and designing your dream lifestyle abroad. Plus, I’ll address that common line, "If you don’t like it, leave," and explain why critiquing your country is actually a form of patriotism and a push for change.
Living abroad doesn’t mean abandoning your roots. You can still be politically active and advocate for change from anywhere in the world. We'll also touch on the privileges and opportunities that come with being from the US, and how these can coexist with your desire to experience life abroad.
Tune in to hear more about how you can love your home country, live abroad, and advocate for change all at the same time. Let’s get into it!

#63 From Grocery Store Scare to Global Safety: My Eye-Opening Return to the US
Season 1 · Episode 63
mardi 25 juin 2024 • Duration 01:05:45
Trigger Warning: gun violence, mass shootings, kidnapping, and trafficking.
In this episode, I dive deep into a pretty scary experience I had at a grocery store on my most recent visit to the US and use it as a springboard to talk about the bigger issue of gun violence and safety here compared to living abroad. It's a heavy topic, but one that's so important, especially given how often mass shootings and gun-related incidents seem to happen in the US.
I share more personal stories of feeling unsafe in the US and contrast that with my experiences in other countries where safety isn’t such a major concern. From the stark differences in everyday safety and vigilance to the challenges of dealing with culture shock and reverse culture shock, we cover a lot of ground.
Plus, I chat about everything from how the food here affects my body, to work culture and political tensions in the USA and compare it to my experience living overseas.

#62 “I Chose This”: Releasing Victim Mentality So You Can Love Your Life Abroad
mardi 18 juin 2024 • Duration 31:16
In this episode, we're diving deep into the power of choice and taking ownership of our decisions.
I'll share personal stories about how I once felt stuck and envious of others living their dreams while I was tied down by a job I didn't love and student loans. But then I realized I had the power to choose a different path.
While we can't control everything that happens to us, we can control our reactions and how we show up in tough situations. I'm here to encourage you to own your choices and make empowered decisions to create the life you truly want.
