This year at ISTE, I had the opportunity to sit down with the Windows Device team at the Microsoft Education booth. Shindy and Javier talked with me about the power of inking, and what advantages it brings to the classroom.
Ever since the big keynote address in New York last year, I have been extremely impressed with how much power is being put into classroom level Windows 10 and Windows 10S devices. I am totally convinced that students with a pen in their hands have an advantage over students only using a keyboard.

Tammy Brecht Dunbar, M.Ed., S.T.E.M., is a 5th-grade teacher in Manteca (CA) Unified (USA) and a pre-service technology instructor at Teachers College of San Joaquin. Tammy believes the most important 21st Century tool in any classroom is the attitude of the teacher. “Teachers need to be comfortable tackling the challenges of using technology in front of their students and modeling how to overcome obstacles,” says Tammy. About Ole Johnny DevikAfter working in media for most of his career until 2010, Ole Johnny Devik now teaches media subjects, ICT skills and practical entrepreneurship in upper secondary school (age 16-19 years). Ole Johnny wants his students to experience a practical education, centered around the use of their developing media skills to contribute to the local community. Ole Johnny also aims to give his students international entrepreneurship experience, working closely with teachers and students in other countries.
As a classroom teacher Ole Johnny has been a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert for three years, and an MIEE Fellow for the last two years. He has been awarded the regional award for best Entrepreneurship teacher in his home state, and his students have won national, European and international entrepreneurship awards. In 2015 his mini company won the Global Joint- Venture Award. Outside of academic subjects in education and media, he has also had three vocational diplomas in media, photography, and ICT.
Ole Johnny is currently employed at Hafstad Upper Secondary in Norway, where he managed a two year Erasmus+ collaboration with teachers and students in Sweden, Spain, and France. The goal is to build strong networks between the students from each country, and for them together to learn, and develop their entrepreneurial skills.

- Bell-lloc, Spain (main coordinator)
- Lycée d'Enseignement Général Technologique a Richelieu Rueil Malmaison, France (responsible for sales and purchases)
- Hafstad vgs, Norway (responsible for design and communication)
- Sven Eriksonsgymnasiet, Sweden (lined tion finance, plan collection in Sweden, etc.)
The goal is to learn about teamwork and entrepreneurship, and cooperation across national borders. The cooperation will be through Skype, OneNote, social media, e-mail (as little as possible) – in addition to pupils and teachers should meet on physical and have workshops, presentations, training and cooperation. First in Spain in November, then in Sweden in March 2017 (with the participation of the booth where pupils compete for best design, etc.), so Hafstad autumn 2018. And finally in Paris in spring 2018, then we round out and evaluates the project.

About Alex HandyAlex Handy is a husband, father of 3 boys and tries to be the best enabler he can be. He is endless inquisitive to the point of distraction and has worked for the last 15 years trying to use technology to ensure teachers can be as productive as possible. Currently, he is an Assistant Headteacher at a large comprehensive high school in the UK. He leads on Employability and Enrichment and is currently working on a project with students using an online platform to make positive career choices when moving through school (www.unifrog.org). This summer he became an MIE Expert and has just become an MIE trainer. He is head of Economics and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme (http://www.dofe.org/), a UK-based outdoor education program, and is trialing OneNote Class Notebooks and Sway to organize lessons and provide feedback. He is also involved in supporting the schools Technology Enhanced Learning program and lead the school's learning and teaching Twitter project which can be found @caludonlandt. Alex believes in easy wins and making pedagogy fun for teachers which involve tailoring tools to teachers, competitions, and loads of support. Next month he is giving an MIE Expert talk called “champagne and chocolates, the fun way to launch Office 365”

Using Skype Video Conferencing To Connect Our Classrooms

About Stacey RyanDuring her 16 years as an educator, Stacey Ryan has taught 6th- 8th-grade math. Her passion is facilitating real-world applications and projects to make math relevant and meaningful for her students. She wants all students to be confident in math, develops leadership skills, and collaborate effectively with one another as well as professionals who use math in their jobs.
As a classroom teacher, Stacey has been recognized as a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert and Regional Lead, State Finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching, Kansas Horizon Award recipient, Wichita Business Journal 40 Under 40 Honoree, and Wichita Family Magazine Teacher Who Makes a Difference. She is a Skype in the Classroom Master Teacher, WEB Leader Coordinator, Sway Champion, Remind Connected Educator, and GoNoodle Ambassador. She also founded and coordinates x mentoring program at her school to match at-risk students to community member mentors. Stacey wants students to develop skills to experience success not only in her classroom but in life.
