My guest this week on the podcast is Andrew Hendryx. His musical career started at Elon College, NC where he performed with regional folk and jam bands. Later moving to NYC, Andrew co-founded the band Yarn, with which he toured nationally for nine years. He currently calls Asheville home and has just released and incredible album with the band Dangermuffin. Andrew also has a new solo project coming soon and, when he has the time, is also an instructor. From Bryson City, NC, Cody began his career in music at the age of 15 playing mandolin for legendary banjo player Raymond Fairchild. There he got to meet and play music with of some of bluegrass' biggest stars like Jimmy Martin, Del McCoury, Ralph Stanley, The Crowe Brothers and many more. Now based in Knoxville, TN Cody has put out albums with Cody Shuler and Pine Mountain Railroad as well as a solo album. Cody is currently building some beautiful Loar style mandolin cases. Throughout his 30+ year career, Dan Tyminski has left his mark in every corner of modern music. Tyminski’s voice famously accompanies George Clooney’s performance of the Stanley Brother’s Classic song, “I’m A Man of Constant Sorrow,” in the film, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou and his vocal collaboration with Swedish DJ Avicii on the song “Hey, Brother” was a global smash, having been streamed over 1 billion times to date. Dan has been honored with 14 Grammy Awards, was named Male Vocalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association 4x and was recognized as 2004’s Male Vocalist of the Year by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America. The Dan Tyminski Band will be on tour throughout 2022 and 2023 in support of two forthcoming projects: an EP celebrating Tony Rice’s legacy, and a full-length bluegrass album early in 2023. Adrian Gross was born in Montreal, lives in Toronto, and has been playing music all his life. As one of Canada’s most sought-after mandolin players, he has developed a reputation for his inventive playing and unique voice on the instrument, always with one eye to the tradition and one looking forward. As a member of The Slocan Ramblers, Adrian has performed at music festivals across North America, from MerleFest to RockyGrass, has been nominated for a Juno and won IBMA and CFMA awards. Adrian keeps busy as a professor in the Music Department at Concordia University, and as the Canadian booking agent for The Slocan Ramblers and chamber-folk string quartet The Fretless. He spends his rare free time in town practicing on the banks of the river that flows across the street from his house.
