SHOW NOTES:

Topic 1 - Welcome back to the show James. It’s hard to believe it’s been 11 years since we last spoke on the show! Give everyone a brief introduction.

Topic 2 - To say we’ve come a long way with APIs as an industry is an understatement. But let’s set the table for everyone. In your interactions with Enterprise customers, what trends or standards are currently top of mind?

Topic 3 - You wrote an article (link in show notes) titled Lessons after a Decade of API Strategy. What struck me from the article was the combination of technology, business, and even culture, all of which have to come together. When talking to Enterprises these days, have we moved past understanding what APIs are and straight to solving problems with APIs?

Topic 4 - What are the most common use cases you see today? API transformation? API sprawl and consolidation/documentation? Integration of SaaS/3rd party services?

Topic 5 - No conversation would be complete without a discussion about AI and AI’s impact on API’s. I view this in several different ways. AI is creating APIs, and AI is being consumed through APIs. How do you think about AI and its impact? What’s changed and what has stayed the same?

Topic 6 - Second aspect to the AI topic, where and how does security fit into this intersection of AI and APIs?

Using AI Reasoning to Prevent AI Scams

mercredi 8 octobre 2025Duration 34:00

Alan Lefort (CEO, @StrongestLayer) discusses how LLM-powered reasoning is transforming phishing security from reactive pattern-matching to predictive threat detection, and why traditional rule-based systems can no longer defend against sophisticated AI-generated phishing attacks.

SHOW NOTES:

Topic 1 - Welcome to the show Alan. Tell us about your background and your involvement in Cybersecuity.

Topic 2 - Let's start with the core challenge. You've said that "if only AI can defend against weaponized AI" - what specific gap in traditional email security did you identify that led to this philosophy? How are AI-powered phishing attacks fundamentally different from what we've seen before?

Topic 3 - How does this attack vector demonstrate the limitations of rule-based security systems, and why can't traditional pattern matching keep up?

Topic 4 - Let's break down your TRACE (Threat Reasoning and AI Correlation Engine) architecture. You've described it as "LLM-as-master" rather than "LLM-as-add-on." What does this fundamental architectural difference mean for threat detection, and how does it help?

Topic 5 - You discuss "pre-campaign detection," which involves identifying potential phishing campaigns weeks before emails are sent. This sounds like moving from reactive to predictive security. How does your system correlate technical intelligence with business context to achieve this early warning capability?

Topic 6 - From an implementation standpoint, how do organizations integrate LLM-powered reasoning into their existing security stacks? What's the deployment model, and how do you handle the challenge of reasoning about business context without exposing sensitive organizational data?

Searching for the Netflix of the AI Era

dimanche 24 novembre 2024Duration 27:15

In the Cloud Era, Netflix was held up as the lighthouse for what was possible with cloud. So who is the Netflix of the AI era, and are we learning enough about AI yet?

SHOW NOTES:

WHAT DID NETFLIX DO FOR THE CLOUD ERA?

  • Provided a face for a new style of doing work
  • Provided validation that a new model could work
  • Encouraged people to explore older, “bad practices”
  • Began to define metrics of what the new world could look like

WHY DO WE NEED A NETFLIX OF THE AI ERA?

  • Because AI can apparently do everything, but what are some specific things?
  • What are the new ways of thinking about old problems?
  • Has it been proven to improve teams, or mostly individuals?
  • Do we need a Couch to 5k set of use-cases? Starting use-cases
  • Or is AI going to be a big-bang approach?
