Tapering

Episode 4

mardi 10 novembre 2020Duration 14:39

What is tapering?

Tapering is reducing the amount of training time on the days prior to your competition.  Tapering is not about reducing the intensity or effort that you or your horse puts into training but the actual duration that you work them for, this is key.  Tapering is a tried and tested method to improve performance at your competition and has been used successfully in human athletes over the past 30 years but isn't so widely known in the equestrian community.  In this Podcast, Dr David Marlin explains what Tapering is and how to use it in your horse's fitness and training plan to greatly improve your horse's performance!

Moving a Horse to a New Home by Dr David Marlin

Episode 2

lundi 19 octobre 2020Duration 13:35

Over the years I've come across many horse owners who bring a horse home and then find they are having problems with it in the first few days or even weeks, whether that be changes in temperament, illness or both.  Moving home is extremely stressful for some horses and can even lead to colic, tying up and respiratory problems to name just a few.  We cannot overestimate the stress of travelling and changing home for our horses, changing forage and feed, bedding material and so forth.
