Pope John Paul II’s Prayer for Families
Lord, from You every family in heaven and on earth takes it name. Father, You are Love and Life.
Through Your Son, Jesus Christ, born of woman, and through the Holy Spirit, the fountain of divine charity, grant that every family on earth may become for each successive generation a true shrine of life and love.
Grant that Your grace may guide the thoughts and actions of husbands and wives for the good of their families and of all the families of the world.
Grant that the young may find in the family solid support for their human dignity and for their growth in truth and love.
Grant that love, strengthened by the grace of the sacrament of Marriage, may prove mightier than all the weaknesses and trials through which our families sometimes pass.
Through the intercession of the Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that the Church may fruitfully carry out her worldwide mission in the family and through the family.
We ask this of You, who are Life, Truth, and Love with the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Prayer of St. Charles Borromeo
Almighty God, you have generously made known to man the mysteries of your life through Jesus Christ your Son in the Holy Spirit. Enlighten my mind to know these mysteries which your Church treasures and teaches.
Move my heart to love them and my will to live in accord with them. Give me the ability to teach this Faith to others without pride, without ostentation, and without personal gain.
Let me realize that I am simply your instrument for bringing others to the knowledge of the wonderful things you have done for all your creatures. Help me to be faithful to this task that you have entrusted to me. Amen.

RECIPES FROM RITA: PERPETUAL COLANDER SALAD GARDEN
Find inexpensive colanders at thrift or dollar stores.
As far as what to grow, choices are endless. You can plant a single variety of greens or a mix. Let the little ones help you choose. Depending on the depth, you can also plant radishes and carrots. Or how about strawberries?
- Line a colander with coffee filters to keep soil in and allow good drainage. Or use a plastic baggy and poke holes in it for drainage
- Tape coffee filters/baggies if necessary to adhere to colander..
- Pour soil in 3/4 of the way up. Tamp down to smooth.
- Water gently but thoroughly.
- Sprinkle seeds evenly over surface. You can sprinkle on a good amount of seeds if using lettuces. If using carrots or radishes, do less since they need room to grow under the top soil.
- Pour a tiny bit of soil on top of seeds, just enough to cover.
- Tamp down gently.
- Add label and date. You can simply tape the seed packet on a popsicle stick.
- Place in sunny spot. Outside or in – depending upon weather. If outside and it’s raining a lot bring it in.
- Water as needed. The first few days you won’t have to water. Keep evenly moist but not soggy.
- Watch closely — in a week or so you’ll see all those tiny seeds sprouting.
- Some varieties of lettuces and radishes are ready to eat in 3 weeks
- For the lettuce garden, as the greens grow, cut at soil level. New growth appears in a few days.
Waste not want not!
Even if you don’t grow a colander garden, you can grow lettuce from cores! Best kinds to use are romaine and leaf lettuces.
Place a 1-2 inch lettuce stem in a shallow bowl with half an inch of water, ensuring the leaves remain above water. Set it on a sunny windowsill, changing the water every 2 days to prevent rot. Leaves will emerge in days.
This works for celery, too!

Prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas for Students
Come, Holy Spirit, Divine Creator, true source of light and fountain of wisdom! Pour forth your brilliance upon my dense intellect, dissipate the darkness which covers me, that of sin and of ignorance. Grant me a penetrating mind to understand, a retentive memory, method and ease in learning, the lucidity to comprehend, and abundant grace in expressing myself. Guide the beginning of my work, direct its progress, and bring it to successful completion. This I ask through Jesus Christ, true God and true man, living and reigning with You and the Father, forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer of St. Anselm of Canterbury
Lord my God, you gave me life and restored it when I lost it. Tell my soul that so longs for you what else you are besides what it has already understood, so that it may see you clearly. It stands on tiptoe to see more, but apart from what it has seen already, it sees nothing but darkness. Of course it does not really see darkness, because there is no darkness in you, but it sees that it can see no further because of the darkness in itself… If I fail to see this light it is simply because it is too bright for me… O supreme and inaccessible light, O complete and blessed truth, how far you are from me, even though I am so near to you! How remote you are from my sight, even though I am present to yours! You are everywhere in your entirety, and yet I do not see you; in you I move and have my being, and yet I cannot approach you; you are within me and around me, and yet I do not perceive you.

St. Benedict Prayer
Gracious and holy Father,
grant us the intellect to understand you,
reason to discern you, diligence to seek you, wisdom to find you, a spirit to know you,
a heart to meditate upon you.
May our ears hear you, may our eyes behold you, and may our tongues proclaim you.
Give us grace that our way of life may be pleasing to you, that we may have the patience to wait for you
and the perseverance to look for you.
Grant us a perfect end-your holy presence,
a blessed resurrection and life everlasting.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
