Panini Treble, Panini NFTs, Gavi, and More: Q and A (and Welcome Back?) Pod

mercredi 16 mars 2022Duration 41:44

Disclaimer: I’ll earn a small percentage from eBay sales made after clicking links in this newsletter. It’s at no extra cost to you and keeps this all free.

Looking to Support the Pod?

I don’t want to charge you for listening to podcasts or reading newsletters (not that I'm against anyone that does - it just isn’t my thing).

However, having said that, there are a few ways you can help out.

For starters, if you’re looking at eBay to make any purchases, please click here to do so (or copy https://ebay.us/3ZeaOV into your browser). I’ll earn a small percentage of any purchase made at no extra cost to you.

Secondly, if you’re looking at consigning high-end cards, click here to fill out a form and I can help you get your cards consigned at Goldin. It’s a great way to help out the pod.

Or, if that link didn’t work, copy and paste this into your browser: https://forms.gle/Sm95Jk95L9PMbvRG8

Finally, if you can’t do that - or if it’s not your style, please share this pod with a friend in the hobby or give it a review on iTunes. It makes such a difference.

Other Ways to Help The Pod…

Here are some other businesses that I’m affiliated with (and will earn a small cut of your sales/sign up).

* Try SoRare

* Check out Market Movers

* Shop at Fanatics - I swear this is a coincidence and I signed up before I knew they bought out the hobby

In this episode, we chat with Adam from Futera to discuss everything Futera United. What it is, what it isn’t, and how week one has been.

I’m not affiliated with Futera United, nor do I get paid for this etc… I’m just a buyer like anyone else.

There’s some extra info for you though.

The Death of Footista With Matt from Footista Zone

Before We Start

If you want to help out, there are a few ways you can support the newsletter.

* Find WCCF Cards on eBay (affiliate link, I’ll earn a small percentage off any purchase - at no extra cost to you)

* Submit Your Card to Goldin Auctions: I’d only really use it if your card is worth over 1k - and maybe even 2-3k. Sometimes lower end stuff gets lost at Goldin.

* Try SoRare or read this Sorare review

* Check out Market Movers. For me, it’s still the best app for data. Other options are good too - but the number of cards isn’t there. Market Movers has the card volume to make it worth the money.

It’s funny - we go a year without talking too much about WCCF/Footista cards - and then have two episodes within four weeks.

This time, it’s some news.

Sega dropped a sneaky press release ending WCCF/Footista cards forever!!

It’s absolutely crazy news, and I grabbed Matt from the YouTube channel Footista Zone to talk about it.

* Find WCCF Cards on eBay

Futera are one of the more unique (pardon the pun) card companies out there.

I love the business side of the hobby and learning more about how the sausage is made - so to speak.

So, I got on Adam, who is the head of marketing at Futera (and the guy you’ve seen running their socials) to discuss the brand, and what it’s like to promote a brand that isn’t one of the big two in the hobby (Topps and Panini).

Topics we cover include

* Futera’s shipping issues so far

* Production cycle

* Promotion and marketing

* The struggles involved with running a smaller brand and not having league licences

* Why it’s so hard for Futera to get auto cards these days

* Will there ever be a Football League and Futera licence?

* and much more

Adam is a great guy - and this pod was a really fun one.

ADDED AUDIO: Fake Ronaldo Stickers? What To Look For When Buying with Dave Sliepka

lundi 30 août 2021Duration 01:10:41

Well. I put myself in it this week.

I’m not going to talk too much about it - but you can check my recent Instagram posts.

This is all ongoing - and one day, once this all blows over, it’ll be a whole episode of me telling you this story. It’s a big one.

Anyway, through this I connected with Dave Sliepka. He’s a vet of the hobby (and a really cool guy too).

Dave has worked with Beckett, and pretty much all the big brands in the industry. Now, he works as a consultant for both brands and collectors.

Dave is also a mad soccer fan and collector too which is even better - so we get to chat some MLS.

In this episode, Dave and I talk about the Ronaldo rookies - but really focus the conversation on how to protect yourself going forward.

This isn’t the first potnetial counterfeit controversy and it won’t be the last.

Learning how to protect yourself throughout is vital.

Dave was a great guest and I was stoked to have him on.

EARLY POD! PWCC, eBay, Fanatics, Topps, Panini - How Will The Hobby Change and What it Means For Soccer

samedi 21 août 2021Duration 01:15:04

Okay, yesterday I shared a lot of news that’s happened this week in the hobby.

I’ve re-added it here just in case.

In this episode though, I go over

* My opinions on the whole Fanatics thing

* What it means for Topps/Panini

* What it means for creators and hobby business owners

* The main middle men that’ll cop most of the heat

* A little on the PWCC thing

* But most importantly, my hobby news this week - because in a week where PWCC was kicked off eBay, you all want to hear about me bidding for Christian Vieri cards.

A lot of this is my opinion - in fact, that’s all pretty much any of us have at the moment. I don’t think I’ll talk too much more about any of this as it’s just speculation.

If more news comes out, I’ll discuss that when it’s relevant.

However, I didn want to talk about how it relates to soccer cards.

Before We Start…

PWCC Getting Kicked off eBay

Earlier this week, many of us got that email from eBay saying that they were cutting ties with the biggest sports card seller on the playform.

*Chaos ensures*

Here’s some key articles and other content that sum a lot of things up.

There’s a lot more news about this because it’s been on the fringe for a while.

Sports Collector Daily: eBay Accuses PWCC of Shill Bidding; Company Calls Accusation “Defamatory”

Blowout Forums: Newcomer to the Trimming Scandal? Read This Summary Now and Catch Up Fast.

Sports Card Radio: A very angry video, and goes about 45 directions at once sometimes… Some are political which I don’t align with - but if you can look past a lot of that, there’s a lot of great info here.

Sports Card Radio: Gary Moser & PWCC Marketplace Card Trimming & Shill Bidding Scam (Published 2019)

Blowout Forums: Here is a thread on Blowout Forums (that’s still operating) that highlights all the trimmed and altered cards.

Vintage Card Curator: I’m not much of a hobby YouTube watcher, but I have a lot of time for Vintage Card Curator.

PWCC Initial Response:

And PWCC news regarding their selling platforms.

More will come out about this in due course. It’ll be a very interesting topic going forward.

Fanatics Buys the Hobby

PWCC took headlines for like 48 hours or so…

Until Fanatics just came in and flopped their dick on the table and showed who is boss.

*Chaos ensures*

*again*

This was more out of left field - friend of the show, Darren Rovell, broke the news at the Action Network.

The Action Network: MLB Set to Give Exclusive Trading Card License to Fanatics, Ending 70-Year Run for Topps

Sports Card Daily: Reports: Fanatics in Deals to Take Over Trading Card Licenses in Multiple Sports

This news kinda broke in parts.

First the Topps baseball part came out and that was huge.

Baseball Collector (Mike from Breaker Culture):

Then, a few hours later, the it came out Fanatics are also in conversations with NBA and NFL about their rights too.

Massive.

This is still five years away though, and as it seemed to come out of left field, there’s still a lot of time for this to play out.

I have my views on this, but as far as sharing them - I’ll wait until there’s a bit more solid news and less doomsday prepping.

Topps Having a 200m Loan Due Next Year?!

Most of what you see is just unfounded talk and opintion.

Again…

Again, if you want to help out, there’s a few ways you can support the newsletter.

* Shop at eBay (affiliate link, I’ll earn a small percentage off any purchase - at no extra cost to you)
