We love the heavy music. Sometimes we stray into lighter stuff, but more often than not we keep it heavy. We talk about albums and singles and occasionally have a guest for an interview. If you like the heavy stuff too, follow and subscribe to the channel and comment who you’d like us to review. It’s free and it’ll make our black hearts sing.

Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere - Album Review

Season 2 · Episode 54

lundi 2 décembre 2024Duration 30:56

Send us a text

What if a group of fellas from Colorado got together and mashed together 70s era progressive rock and psychelia with death metal? You get Blood Incantation, a band who's been making waves in the heavy music scene since 2011 with their genre spanning releases. With four full length albums and three EPs released 2013, their latest release ABSOLUTE ELSEWHERE is exceedingly well done. With some subtle (and some not-so-subtle) nods to huge bands from past to present, this album is a monstrous record. You'd be forgiven if you were to question how Blood Incantation was able to successfully work the differing styles together. Fear not, your questions will all be answered with the first listen.

The Shit Talk jackwagons were excited to talk about this record and have been known to talk about other albums and occasionally talk to some pretty killer musicians, so please check out the other clips and consider dropping a like and subscribing to the channel. You can also head to www.shittalkreviews.com and see all the reviews and interviews.

The Barbarians Of California - And Now I'm Just Gnashing My Teeth - Album Review

Season 2 · Episode 53

jeudi 31 octobre 2024Duration 24:42

Send us a text

At long last, two of the three buffoons that make up Shit Talk Reviews finally sat down to talk about what will be certainly considered one of the best albums of 2024: And Now I’m Just Gnashing My Teeth from new LA based powerhouse The Barbarians Of California. The album smacks of rock, metal, punk, hardcore, thrash and has a few surprises thrown in here and there just to keep us all on our toes.

The band’s lineup brings serious pedigree to the table with Eric Stenman on guitar and bass (Tinfed, 35 year studio guru as engineer, producer, mixer and stunt guitarist,) Aaron Bruno (singer of AWOLNATION, Under The Influence Of Giants, Home Town Hero,) Isaac Carpenter (drummer for AWOLNATION, Gosling, Loaded,) and Zach Irons (guitarist for AWOLNATION.) They also brought in Tim McIlrath from Rise Against and Daryl Taberski of Snapcase for guest appearances.

While you might immediately assume that with such an AWOLNATION heavy lineup that The Barbarians Of California would be a similar band, you’d be wrong. There are certainly some AWOLNATION seasonings sprinkled on the album, but this record is a definite departure from that. Aaron’s vocals are frantic and unhinged while maintaining perfect control, the guitar work by Eric and Zack is groovy, thrashy and pristine and Isaac’s drumming is powerful and lays a heavy heartbeat for this new breath that’s been pumped into our musical lungs.

The band brings serious heavy to this album and it’s a fantastically refreshing listen. It covers a bunch of genres, but stays cohesive throughout. It absolutely warrants listening to. You should also check out the interview the Shit Talk guys did with Eric Stenman a few weeks back to get deeper into the band and the album.

Be sure to head over to www.shittalkreviews.com for all the other Shit Talk interviews and reviews.

Eric Stenman - The Barbarians Of California - Interview

Season 2 · Episode 52

samedi 28 septembre 2024Duration 46:47

Send us a text

The Shit Talk fellas had a very enjoyable chat with the super talented studio engineer, producer and mixer Eric Stenman. Eric has been working in the music industry for over 35 years, both playing bass and guitar and running studios, wearing all sorts of different hats along the way. Going back to 2011, he has worked with Aaron Bruno and Los Angeles based band AWOLNATION. In recent years, Eric and Aaron connected with some heavy material that Eric had been working on in the shadows. Fortunately for all of us, we now get to hear what they came up with, and it is absolutely stellar.

The Barbarians Of California have smashed onto the scene with the release of their first album And Now I’m Just Gnashing My Teeth. It’s packed with all kinds of musical flavors from punk to metal and thrash, punctuated by some moments of surprising calm. Fellow AWOLNATION members Isaac Carpenter on drums and Zach Irons on guitar round out the band’s lineup and they’ve delivered a heavy, super energetic, slammin’ first album. We’re all hoping that they hurry up and tour this album and then release more material!

You can follow The Barbarians Of California on Instagram at @barbariansofca

Lamb Of God - Ashes Of The Wake-20th Anniversary - Review

Season 2 · Episode 51

lundi 16 septembre 2024Duration 21:52

Send us a text

Right around 20 years ago, Lamb Of God released Ashes Of The Wake. The reviews back then were excellent, just as the reviews of the 20th Anniversary re-release have been. And since Lamb Of God has been such a staple (and because LoG is fast becoming a heritage band within the genre) the Shit Talk yahoos wanted to talk about it.

Be sure to drop by www.shittalkreviews/com for a slew of other reviews and interviews with all sorts of awesome musicians.

Downpour - Kill The Mind - Album Review

Season 2 · Episode 50

mardi 10 septembre 2024Duration 16:16

This week John and Derek dig into Kill The Mind, the latest EP from Downpour. Fronted by Brian Fair (Shadows Fall, Overcast,) Derek Kerswill (Unearth, Seemless,) Matt Lebreton (Frozen, Cannae,) Pete Gelles (Birch Hill Dam, Sorrowseed,) Downpour brings a delicious mix of the heavy with some metalcore, progressive metal and straight up power. We love this record and our only beef with it is that it's just too damn short.

Check out www.shittalkreviews.com for an interview with Brian Fair and a bunch of other interviews and album reviews. You can even leave a voicemail for the guys and let them know how selfish they are!

Category 7 - Category 7 - Album Review

Season 2 · Episode 49

mardi 3 septembre 2024Duration 21:17

Definition of a Super Group:

noun: super-group

  1. an exceptionally successful rock group or one formed by musicians already famous from playing in other groups.

Derek and John sat down to yap about the latest metal super group to hit the scene: Category 7. Made up of five power hitters, the self-titled debut album brings modern power and the nostalgia of solid 80s metal. With John Bush (Armored Saint, Anthrax) Jason Bittner (Shadows Fall, Overkill) Phil Demmel (Machine Head, Violence) Mike Orlando (Adrenaline Mob, Nocturnal) and Jack Gibson (Exodus) it would have been a trial to release an album that sucked. As it happens, their first release decidedly DID NOT SUCK. Grab a seat and have a listen. (Then like, subscribe and comment about what jokers John and Derek really are…)

You know what the single greatest website in the internet’s history is? We can tell you one thing with certainty: It’s not www.shittalkreviews.com. BUT, if you WERE to go there, you’d find all the other album reviews the Shit Talk crew has done along with a slew of interviews and other assorted nonsense. So you should check it out. Seriously. You won’t win a new car or a dream vacation house, but you will have seen some swanky music stuff.
