Slow & Steady Wins the Raise
Season 5 · Episode 5
jeudi 20 février 2025 • Duration 21:56
In today’s episode, I’ll be covering:
🔥 The Big Plot Twist: You're not failing at self-advocacy - you're just trying to sprint before you can crawl. This episode exposes why diving into the deep end is actually keeping you silent.
💣 The Truth Bomb: Your "growth mindset" might be sabotaging you. Turns out, capitalism's "faster, harder, stronger" mentality is exactly why you're stuck. Mind. Blown.
🎯 The Real Tea: Want to know why some folks seem to advocate effortlessly while you're frozen in meetings? It's not about confidence - it's about safety. Learn how your nervous system is running the show (and how to make it your ally instead of your enemy).
✨ The Game-Changing Approach: Uncover why the smallest, safest steps are actually your secret weapon for becoming a self-advocacy powerhouse.
🌟 The Revolutionary Reality: Speaking up doesn't have to feel like jumping off a cliff. Learn why "boring" baby steps are actually the most rebellious (and effective) way to claim your power.
The episode will flip the script on everything you thought you knew about advocating for yourself.
It's not about being braver, louder, or pushing harder - it's about being smarter, safer, and more strategic.

From Burnout to Boundaries w/ Nicole E.
Season 5 · Episode 4
jeudi 13 février 2025 • Duration 34:39
Nicole is such a great example of someone who said, “I matter” and not only changed her future – but the future of her children, and the Black parents and children she supports in her work.
I’m so excited to expand her impact today by sharing an interview I did with her on today’s episode of the Revolutionary Rising podcast.
On this episode, “From Burnout to Boundaries”, Nicole and I discussed:
🎙️ how she broke free from the “immigrant child work ethic” that made her feel she needed to prioritize productivity over her needs
🎙️ why rage can be an important part part of self-advocacy
🎙️ tangible ways that advocating for herself has broken generational cycles for her kids
🎙️ why advocating for yourself is better for your work and everything else
…and so much more.

About Nicole:
Nicole’s mission is to centre and champion Black families. After many years in the private sector, a mid-career shift led her back to her roots as a writer, where she founded ParentingWhileBlack.com. Through this platform, she built an online community that amplifies the stories and experiences of parents, guardians, and caregivers raising Black children.
Her background as a corporate leader, work as an education advocate, and training in anti-racism and anti-oppression led her to co-found B.R.A.V.E. (Black Resilient Advocates for Vibrant Empowerment), a non-profit delivers leadership programs for Black and allied youth in schools. With B.R.A.V.E., Nicole partners with educators, administrators, and school communities to deliver weekly workshops that fill the need for visible Black role models in Canadian schools. B.R.A.V.E. spaces foster inclusion and encourage youth to find their voice and embrace their leadership potential.
But the best part of Nicole’s world? Her family. She’s the proud mom of two of the universe’s finest humans, she is the partner that needs explaining, the inappropriate Auntie, wildly out-of-pocket Godmother, and mouthy middle sister. Nicole enjoys nothing more than spending time with her obscenely inclusive family and a healthy pour of red wine… usually in that order.

055: The B Word
Season 4 · Episode 5
jeudi 28 septembre 2023 • Duration 33:41
Today we're talking about the B word... Not that one! The other one, BOUNDARIES.
Boundaries are really fucking hard for almost all of us (myself included, sometimes!) because we live in a society where having personal boundaries is thought of as being selfish.
In today’s episode of the podcast, I break down why:
👉🏿working on your ability to create & uphold boundaries is essential to rest
👉🏿you have to learn how to create & uphold boundaries with yourself
👉🏿you have to work on building your confidence to be better with boundaries
I also go into a LOT of the “how” in this episode.
I share:
👉🏿my tried and true tool for helping clients get clear on what they ACTUALLY have capacity for
👉🏿 a trick to help you feel confident that you’ve done “enough” and deserve to enforce your boundaries
👉🏿mindset shifts to help you navigate when folks push back against your boundaries
There’s 100% something even the most boundaried person in the world could take away from today’s episode.

054: The Key to Doing Less As a Leader of Color w/ Jaya
Season 4 · Episode 4
jeudi 21 septembre 2023 • Duration 38:01
When Jaya and I started working together, they had been burnt out since their teens.
(You read that right, their TEENS)
Jaya leads a department for tech-driven programming a social justice nonprofit. Previously, they have run marketing and advertising campaigns at a number of startups and nonprofits over six years.
And even though they had just had their most successful career yet…
…internally, they were hitting a breaking point.
- They still felt like they weren’t enough.
- They couldn’t celebrate themselves.
- They were working seven days a week for months on end.
And their burnout had become physical, leaving them with chronic headaches and stomach issues.
Sounds pretty dire, right? It was.
Jaya now considers themselves recovered from burnout – after over a decade of pain.
They are no longer working twice as hard – matter of fact, they’re working way less. while still delivering excellent results at work.
Listen in to find out how Jaya did it!

053: Stop Working Twice As Hard
Season 4 · Episode 3
jeudi 14 septembre 2023 • Duration 22:27
No matter what your racial or ethnic background is, if you grew up in a white-dominated environment, your parents probably told you some version of this:
“We have to work twice as hard to get half as much as white folks.”
In this episode, called, “Stop Working Twice As Hard”, I’ll be breaking down:
💡when it IS true that we have to work twice as hard as folks of color
💡why working twice as hard stops working sometimes
💡simple ways you can cut down the work you do so that you’re no longer working twice as hard and burning yourself out
…and so much more.
This episode will have some hard truths (and some exciting perspective shifts!), but if you want to have more rest without sacrificing success, this is an episode you have to hear.

052: You Can Ask for What You Need w/ Cassandra Le
Season 4 · Episode 2
jeudi 7 septembre 2023 • Duration 33:37
When I met my client Cassandra, she was an entrepreneur and the leader of a robust team of employees and contractors.
Business was great… but the personal was, well, not.
She struggled to take time off, or enjoy her free time, because she still felt entirely integral to her team’s execution & success.
These days Cassandra is literally a whole new leader:
-
she’s created new, bold boundaries with her team & clients
-
she takes so much time off to travel, I’m jealous (and that’s saying a lot!)
-
she delegates ruthlessly
-
she has a robust personal life that is creative, exciting, and thrilling
-
she asks for what she needs, when she needs it – without internal drama
-
she’s unafraid of difficult conversations (even if they might impact her bottom line)
Listen in to find out how she did it and how she continues to thrive.

Welcome back to season 4 of the podcast!!!
If you’re true to this, you know that each season we focus on a specific issue that leaders and entrepreneurs of color navigate.
So this season, I wanted to focus our conversation on how you can get more:

050: The Most Important Episode
Season 3 · Episode 14
jeudi 1 décembre 2022 • Duration 16:45
As folks of color, it’s not uncommon for us to start our businesses because we hit (racist) walls in the corporate world.
The only problem?
Most of the time…we start our businesses being that same shitty boss we tried to escape.
In today’s episode, I’ll be sharing the ultimate key to being loud, being real, and being seen:
Doing it your own damn way.
(Seriously, don’t even do mine!)
This is why, when I recorded today’s episode of the Revolutionary Rising Podcast, I gave it a bold name:
The Most Important Episode
Because the truth is, nothing else I’ve told you throughout this season is going to matter if you’re still accidentally implementing it through this white supremacist, patriarchal lens.
I’ll also be talking about how you:
- Don’t have to hustle to be loud, real, and be seen
- Can be super private (or shy!) and still be fully expressed
- Can start implementing YOUR unique way of being loud, real, and seen

049: Reclaiming Your Name w/ Junielle Rosher
Season 3 · Episode 13
jeudi 17 novembre 2022 • Duration 40:40
When I met Junielle, she went by “Elle”...
…because, you guessed it – she felt like her name was “too difficult.”
But lately, she’s been reclaiming her voice…
…and as she’s reclaimed her voice, she’s reclaimed her name.
During this episode, we talked about so much, like:
- Junielle’s experience growing up as one of the few Black kids in her Canadian town
- why Junielle had to first feel “worthy” and “enough” to reclaim her name
- how getting a full-time job was the best decision Junielle has ever made for her business
- how Junielle intentionally curates more joy in her day to day, even when she hasn’t met all her “goals”
I love Junielle so much – and if you love me, I think you’ll adore this episode with her, too.
About Junielle:
She inspires. She uplifts. She is the hype woman to have in your corner. Junielle is a speaker and the founder of the Joy Calendar, a community for millennial women to have fun and schedule more joy in their lives.
Weaving her mindset knowledge with her desire to find her authentic self in a world that praises conformity, Junielle is passionate about prioritizing her well-being while encouraging others to do the same.
Her circle is grateful for her playful energy, her calm presence and her unwavering commitment to helping women live their best, bold and liberated lives.
When she’s not coming up with fun ways to infuse more joy in her community’s lives, you’ll often find her tutoring high school students, or on Instagram, dancing to her favorite tunes.

048: You’re Gonna Get Called Out
Season 3 · Episode 12
jeudi 10 novembre 2022 • Duration 22:26
As a result of “cancel culture,” you might feel pretty damned unsafe showing up boldly in these streets, because you can’t afford to say the wrong thing and have it impact your finances.
I used to be terrified that when I spoke up as an entrepreneur and leader, I’d be canceled or called out, too.
But I’m over that drama now.
In this episode, I’m talking about:
- why being called out can actually be a GOOD thing
- the #1 thing that’ll help you give zero fucks about getting called out
- how it might be a good idea to care less about harming people (I know, spicy!)
- what to do if you get called out
