In today’s episode, I’ll be covering: 🔥 The Big Plot Twist: You're not failing at self-advocacy - you're just trying to sprint before you can crawl. This episode exposes why diving into the deep end is actually keeping you silent. 💣 The Truth Bomb: Your "growth mindset" might be sabotaging you. Turns out, capitalism's "faster, harder, stronger" mentality is exactly why you're stuck. Mind. Blown. 🎯 The Real Tea: Want to know why some folks seem to advocate effortlessly while you're frozen in meetings? It's not about confidence - it's about safety. Learn how your nervous system is running the show (and how to make it your ally instead of your enemy). ✨ The Game-Changing Approach: Uncover why the smallest, safest steps are actually your secret weapon for becoming a self-advocacy powerhouse. 🌟 The Revolutionary Reality: Speaking up doesn't have to feel like jumping off a cliff. Learn why "boring" baby steps are actually the most rebellious (and effective) way to claim your power. The episode will flip the script on everything you thought you knew about advocating for yourself. It's not about being braver, louder, or pushing harder - it's about being smarter, safer, and more strategic.

| From Burnout to Boundaries w/ Nicole E. | 13 Feb 2025 | 00:34:39 | |
Nicole is such a great example of someone who said, “I matter” and not only changed her future – but the future of her children, and the Black parents and children she supports in her work. I’m so excited to expand her impact today by sharing an interview I did with her on today’s episode of the Revolutionary Rising podcast. On this episode, “From Burnout to Boundaries”, Nicole and I discussed: 🎙️ how she broke free from the “immigrant child work ethic” that made her feel she needed to prioritize productivity over her needs 🎙️ why rage can be an important part part of self-advocacy 🎙️ tangible ways that advocating for herself has broken generational cycles for her kids 🎙️ why advocating for yourself is better for your work and everything else …and so much more.

About Nicole: Nicole’s mission is to centre and champion Black families. After many years in the private sector, a mid-career shift led her back to her roots as a writer, where she founded ParentingWhileBlack.com. Through this platform, she built an online community that amplifies the stories and experiences of parents, guardians, and caregivers raising Black children. Her background as a corporate leader, work as an education advocate, and training in anti-racism and anti-oppression led her to co-found B.R.A.V.E. (Black Resilient Advocates for Vibrant Empowerment), a non-profit delivers leadership programs for Black and allied youth in schools. With B.R.A.V.E., Nicole partners with educators, administrators, and school communities to deliver weekly workshops that fill the need for visible Black role models in Canadian schools. | 055: The B Word | 28 Sep 2023 | 00:33:41 | |
Today we're talking about the B word... Not that one! The other one, BOUNDARIES. Boundaries are really fucking hard for almost all of us (myself included, sometimes!) because we live in a society where having personal boundaries is thought of as being selfish.
In today’s episode of the podcast, I break down why: 👉🏿working on your ability to create & uphold boundaries is essential to rest 👉🏿you have to learn how to create & uphold boundaries with yourself 👉🏿you have to work on building your confidence to be better with boundaries
I also go into a LOT of the “how” in this episode.
I share: 👉🏿my tried and true tool for helping clients get clear on what they ACTUALLY have capacity for 👉🏿 a trick to help you feel confident that you’ve done “enough” and deserve to enforce your boundaries 👉🏿mindset shifts to help you navigate when folks push back against your boundaries
There’s 100% something even the most boundaried person in the world could take away from today’s episode.

| 054: The Key to Doing Less As a Leader of Color w/ Jaya | 21 Sep 2023 | 00:38:01 | |
When Jaya and I started working together, they had been burnt out since their teens. (You read that right, their TEENS) Jaya leads a department for tech-driven programming a social justice nonprofit. Previously, they have run marketing and advertising campaigns at a number of startups and nonprofits over six years. And even though they had just had their most successful career yet… …internally, they were hitting a breaking point.
And their burnout had become physical, leaving them with chronic headaches and stomach issues. Sounds pretty dire, right? It was. Jaya now considers themselves recovered from burnout – after over a decade of pain. They are no longer working twice as hard – matter of fact, they’re working way less. while still delivering excellent results at work. Listen in to find out how Jaya did it!

| 050: The Most Important Episode | 01 Dec 2022 | 00:16:45 | |
As folks of color, it’s not uncommon for us to start our businesses because we hit (racist) walls in the corporate world.
The only problem?
Most of the time…we start our businesses being that same shitty boss we tried to escape.
In today’s episode, I’ll be sharing the ultimate key to being loud, being real, and being seen:
Doing it your own damn way.
(Seriously, don’t even do mine!)
This is why, when I recorded today’s episode of the Revolutionary Rising Podcast, I gave it a bold name:
The Most Important Episode
Because the truth is, nothing else I’ve told you throughout this season is going to matter if you’re still accidentally implementing it through this white supremacist, patriarchal lens.
I’ll also be talking about how you:

| 043: Finding Your Power As a Person of Color w/ Eleanor Victorioso | 06 Oct 2022 | 00:34:32 | |
When Eleanor and I met, Eleanor was running a profitable, successful financial consulting business and tbh, she was miserable.
She was still working with (white dude) clients she hated…
…working all hours of the day and night…
…and was putting her passion projects to the side for what was more urgent and important.
Today, her business couldn’t look any more different, and it’s safe to say that she has fully reclaimed it.
Now, she integrated her passions INTO her business (she does financial coaching for women of color, too!)
In this episode, Eleanor and I talk about:
About Eleanor: Eleanor Victorioso is a transformational life & money coach and CPA who lives in Los Angeles, CA with her partner and two children. She helps women develop a healthy relationship with money to make more intentional and guided financial decisions. She has a 4 part framework of helping her clients: Liberate from their money stories, Activate their money desires, Engage with those desires through goal setting strategies, and Commit to taking realistic and loving action to achieve those goals. She recently transitioned her career from primarily working with early-stage VC-funded startups to coaching individuals. Her passion lies in helping women connect with themselves and their ancestors to understand their inherent beauty and unique gifts. She believes that love, connection, and spiritual partnering are the ways that she can support women through this journey along with her financial experience.

Today we are blessed to have Brenda Ramos join us as our first guest of the season!
Brenda works at the intersection of mindfulness, spirituality, and decoloniality as a life coach, mindfulness meditation teacher, and intuitive movement guide.
In this episode Brenda and I discuss:
About Brenda:
Brenda Ramos is a foul-mouthed, spiritual, sensual, sacred being made of light and stardust (aka an intricate system of atoms, neurons, cells, etc.). She acknowledges her intersectional identities, such as able-bodied, neurotypical, queer, cis-gendered, white-presenting, 1st-gen woman of Puerto Rican heritage, and mixed-race, most deeply connected to her Taíno ancestors. As well as a mom, daughter, sister, titi, friend, lover, teacher, student, meditator, dark chocolate enthusiast, chocolate chip cookie devourer, random drooler, and seasoned homebody.

| 038: It’s Not You, It’s White Supremacy | 08 Sep 2022 | 00:25:04 | |
Today’s topic is my bread and butter y’all!
Most of us have learned about showing up and being seen through a super white lens. But that white lens is not for us because it places blame on us.
It tells us that we are playing small and getting in our own way but we’ve been conditioned to feel that way.
Here’s the good news though: once you know and truly believe that so many of the things you’re struggling with aren’t actually your fault, or a personal feeling…
…then you can actually heal your roadblocks and move on from the internal drama that’s keeping you from showing up in the world the way you want to.

| 036: You don’t have “first world problems” | 30 Dec 2021 | 00:59:06 | |
That’s a wrap on season 2! This episode we are chatting with the amazing Olivia Howard. If you don’t know who they are, I promise you, you will be glad you hopped on this episode. We are wrapping up all the things that were discussed in this season about revolutionary leadership, and discussing the final, *most important* topic… YOU! That’s right, the most important aspect to revolutionary leadership begins and ends with you, precious. For some of you that may seem pretty ominous to your goals… focusing on yourself, but you need to. Olivia nails it in this episode when they say, “Revolutionary leadership is a deep commitment to our humanity”. It’s all about being HUMAN, babe! Be messy be vulnerable be needy AF.
When we start to give ourselves space to focus on ourselves, a lot of times our mind tells us to stop complaining about “first world problems”. As if our problems are frivolous. So we are eliminating that phrase, first world problems, because it just isn’t a thing. Your problems matter, YOU matter. While this is the end of season two :( Olivia and I brought all we had to this extended session and it is one you do not want to miss. This one isn’t just for you, is all about you!

| 035: No one wants you to be perfect | 23 Dec 2021 | 00:22:06 | |
This episode is perfect in all the imperfect ways. We all hold onto this thought, even a little bit whether you are a revolutionary leader or not, that to be the BEST at anything, we must be perfect in all of the ways. Not only is this complete BS… It’s exhausting! Let’s get real together, perfectionism isn’t a damn thing. As revolutionary leaders we acknowledge that perfectionism needs to be put behind us, but it shows up in really funky other ways, and in this episode we are going to talk about it. You deserve to be more than perfect. Perfectionism is a confining space that I am going to help you bust the hell out of. We are going to lose this fucked up sense of being perfect, and embrace our messy ass selves.

| 034: You don’t need an “empire” | 16 Dec 2021 | 00:21:29 | |
Size… really doesn’t matter! This episode we are talking all about size… business size! There are a whoooooole lot of people out there who will tell you if you don’t want to have a seven figure business with 20+ employees you have a mindset problem, or you are playing small. *sigh* Maybe you still believe that a large business equals success but you are exhausted, burnout, and unsettled. There is a difference between not thinking you deserve something and creating something out of a deprived trauma response. Let’s talk about what no one is talking about publicly, what does a sustainable business that matches your energy look like? What about a business that supports you financially and aligns with what you actually enjoy and love? The impact your business makes does not equate to its size. Your business doesn’t need to be this continuous growing beast to support you or your impact. I know this isn’t a sexy conversation topic and goes against all topics of ‘abundance mindset’, but it is a conversation that needs to be had! Why? Because when you begin to teeter on the edge of, I hate what I am doing and I am not good enough to make this business work, the reality is you likely aren’t building a business with your true-self but with the capitalist worldview to be more is to do more and grow more. Regardless of where you are in your business, maybe you are struggling to ‘grow’ because you feel that is what you MUST do to be successful. Maybe you have grown too much and just dread doing anything business related. This episode is for you, love.

| 033: Prioritizing your needs is revolutionary AF | 09 Dec 2021 | 00:24:01 | |
Continuing the conversation about overgiving and boundaries This episode is a love letter to all the people pleasers, responsibility holders, and folks who love to take care of other people. We are conditioned through our formative years to believe that to make a difference, to be successful, we must follow the golden rule of capitalism, to give everything we possibly can. Our needs are unimportant, and to put our needs first is… SELFISH News flash, putting your needs first, prioritizing yourself, setting boundaries, IS revolutionary leadership. This episode you’re learning how to walk the talk. We are learning our needs, learning how to assess our capacity to give, and most importantly learning how to protect those needs and boundaries with the magical word, NO! Your needs and boundaries guide the space for your community, and while you may get pushback, this conversation is going to empower you to stand your ground.

You may ask yourself, how do I regulate my giving when I want to serve and give to as many people as possible? We are diving into giving at our own expense, serving when it is not the best thing for us, when we have other needs, when we are at our capacity. Overgiving does not equate to being a revolutionary leader. This may come off as shocking, praised leaders are noted to have given until they could give no more, but I promise you this is not a toxic cycle we are going to repeat. Overgiving is exactly that… A toxic cycle! While celebrating these leaders we have promoted the idea that to truly serve others is to drain yourself of everything… FUCK THAT! This episode we are confronting the toxic ideology that giving all of yourself is what makes a good leader, how white supremicist culture has taught BIPOC that this is our role (to give unconditionally), and how capitalism has conditioned us to function that way. This episode is not to be missed. Grow in your revolutionary leadership and still have more than enough left over for yourself. I can’t promise you won’t feel called out, you might feel a bit attacked, but there is no growth without some pain, lovelies!

| 031: Overcoming isolation in leadership | 26 Nov 2021 | 00:24:20 | |
Overcoming the lonely road of leadership After the last episode we know why revolutionary leadership can get so damn lonely, now we are digging into what the fuck to do about it! We CRAVE a community of like minded people, and seek nourishing reciprocal relationships, but as we dive head first into the pool of prospects we tend to feel a bit more let down versus lifted up. While each of our journeys is unique, our past traumas are likely going to impede the transition from lonely to supported. Our traumas, formed during periods of feeling unsafe, unseen, unheard, or harmed in our relationships, can be easily triggered when forming new relationships. Let’s say it together, people cannot meet our needs if they do not know our needs!
Step 1. KNOW our needs Step 2. Express those needs. Step 3. Find people wanting/willing to meet said needs
We are breaking the capitalistic constraints of who "valuable community members’" are, and no longer shying away from the growing pains of a good relationship. This episode we are learning to listen to our nervous system and navigate the journey of community building. No more gravitating to the wrong ass people and deepening old wounds. It takes practice, consistency, and time to build reciprocal, nourishing, relationships and there is no better time than right now to get started!

| 030: why’s it “lonely at the top”? | 18 Nov 2021 | 00:22:33 | |
Based on the saying that we all know, and have honestly felt intimately at some point or another, “it’s lonely at the top”. So many of my clients that I work with come to me at pretty much the same point... they are good at holding communities together for others, but feel devoid of a community which supports them in all their needs and wants. Listen, this isolation of revolutionary leaders is a fucking epidemic! It’s also by (white supremacist) design. The truth is, we go so much further together, and we know this in our culture, yet we are all functioning in a deeply broken place. We focus on ourselves and believe that asking for help makes our achievements less than, and as women and femmes of color we have become hyper-individualized.

| 027: WTF is Revolutionary leadership (and why does it matter?) | 11 Nov 2021 | 00:19:24 | |
Welcome back to Revolutionary Rising! I am coming back loaded with all the things you loved in last season, but also going on a journey together, exploring topics from many sides. Together we are EVOLVING…
We are moving on from conversations about confidence and feeling stuck. We know how to overcome obstacles when we need to. Instead, we are discussing meeting not only others’ needs, but also our own. Learning how to step into our power and own it.
Most importantly, we are discussing leadership, all the ways we have a bullshit view on what it is, and how we make ourselves feel as if we aren’t one.

| 060: Wanna be a better leader? Listen to this | 02 Nov 2023 | 00:26:19 | |
In today’s episode, I’m breaking down why it’s so damned hard for us to prioritize rest as leaders, specifically.
But even better, I’m also providing real life examples from a bunch of my clients to show how the principles we’ve talked about this season have led them to be even more effective leaders.
Why?
Because representation fucking matters.
So I want to make sure you see that you aren’t the first to prioritize your thriving as a leader.
Other leaders of color, just like you, are doing this work – without sacrificing success, financial stability, etc.
And not only are they thriving, but the people around them are thriving, too.
