RHR 140: Recognition that Works with Tom Short

Season 3 · Episode 140

mercredi 22 février 2023Duration 38:17

Send us a text

Kudos’ Chief Customer Officer Tom Short is an employees-first entrepreneur. In the last 25 years, he has founded several successful companies, all of which have employee experience as their cornerstone. In his current role, he is invested in advocating for employee recognition over rewards — favoring the long term effects of recognition on well-being and motivation over the short term “object perks” of rewards.

Tom Short is the Founder of Kudos Inc., where he oversees business development, sales and marketing. Tom has founded numerous, highly successful, companies including Idea Machine, which was recognized as one of the top ten interactive agencies in Canada, which he later merged with Rare Method to create the largest independent interactive agency in Western Canada. Under Tom’s direction Rare Method was ranked as one of the fastest growing organizations in the Canada by Profit 100 Magazine several years running and as one of the top 50 small to mid-sized employers in Canada by the Queen's School of Business, Queen’s Centre for Business Venturing and Hewitt Associates.

At each organization Tom built, employee engagement was front and center as the key to building effective teams and successful companies. Kudos was the direct result of this philosophy and was a systematic way to build a systemic culture of appreciation. Today Kudos is quickly becoming a leader in social recognition and changing how companies around the world engage their team’s – one thank you at a time!

RHR 137: Unstoppable Leadership with Alden Mills

Season 3 · Episode 137

mercredi 1 février 2023Duration 41:42

Send us a text

About Alden

Hi, I’m Alden Mills

I’m going to be your swim buddy—Navy SEAL speak for your teammate. I’m here to help you succeed. There is no greater pleasure that I get than from helping others, their teams, and organizations go beyond what they originally thought was possible.

With over 40 years of success in different environments—sports, military, business, nonprofits, and community action groups—I know the rules for success are universal.

It starts with how you lead yourself and ends with how you serve others.

Principles of Success

These principles of success are what I call the three levels of Unstoppable Leadership. Think of them like ripples radiating from a pebble dropped into a pond’s still waters.

The techniques I share are ones I’ve used throughout my life—from leading Navy SEALs to creating an Inc. 500 company to leading communities to, and most importantly, raising my four boys.

RHR 135: From Conflict to Courage with Marlene Chism

Season 3 · Episode 135

mercredi 18 janvier 2023Duration 36:09

Send us a text

Unresolved workplace conflict wastes time, increases stress, and negatively affects business outcomes. But, Marlene Chism writes, conflict isn’t the problem—mismanagement is. The author, advisor, speaker, coach, and CEO of Marlene Chism Consulting’s new book From Conflict to Courage: How to Stop Avoiding and Start Leading  details how the “three A’s”—aggression, avoidance, and appeasing—are common yet destructive ways humans avoid the emotions triggered by conflict.

Chism’s book provides exercises, examples, and expert guidance to foster “conflict capacity,” stop workplace drama, and deal fearlessly with difficult issues head-on. Her techniques show leaders how to increase leadership clarity, identify obstacles, and reduce resistance to conflict.

When leaders see conflict as a teacher, courageously face it, and continually work on transforming themselves, Chism says, they can get the resolution they are seeking and can change minds.

About Marlene

From Conflict to Courage is Marlene Chism’s fourth leadership book; see her other works here.

She is a seasoned speaker, thought partner, advisor, coach, author, and widely recognized as the leading US authority on stopping workplace drama.
