Food waste lurking in your bins? You’re not alone. This week on On the House: The Household Management Science Insights Podcast, host Gabriella Joustra chats with Claire Kneller, the general manager for Leading Harvest in Australia, to unpack the multifaceted landscape of food waste, from wilted lettuce and forgotten leftovers to planning and shopping for meal planning.

Claire is the General Manager for Leading Harvest in Australia, a global certification standard for regenerative agriculture. Previously, Claire was the Managing Director of WRAP Asia Pacific, a not for profit focussed on the transition to a circular economy, especially for food, clothing and plastic packaging. Based in Australia, Claire develops and implements programmes across WRAP’s focus areas, and on top of that, works with End Food Waste Australia leading the delivery of Australia’s halving food waste target.

In this episode, Claire Kneller discusses the major contributors to food waste and what can be done to reduce it, revealing that the target to reduce food waste is 50% by 2030. She shares more on what makes this a realistic goal, and what we need to do to achieve this collectively.

Having graduated from the University of Connecticut with a PhD in Plant Science, Lauren’s research focuses on horticulture and plant breeding of hemp.
