My Music Episode 405 - Beauty In Chaos
mardi 30 juillet 2024 • Duration 32:51
LA-based collective Beauty In Chaos release their fourth long-play record 'Dancing With Angels' on July 24 via 33.3 Music Collective. Their fourth album cements BIC's legacy for crafting captivating and imagination-stirring music with eight diverse, riveting tracks on offer. BIC has also just unveiled the video for 'Holy Ground', a lush offering featuring Patrik Mata of seminal darkwave band Kommunity FK, Beauty In Chaos was formed in 2018 by guitarist Michael Ciravolo (formerly of Human Drama and Gene Loves Jezebel and currently President of Schecter Guitars) with Grammy nominated producer Michael Rozon (Ministry) as a revolving evolving sonic entity. To date, Beauty In Chaos has involved numerous music luminaries, including members of The Cure, Ministry, Cheap Trick, The Offspring, Gene Loves Jezebel, Marilyn Manson, Human Drama, Bauhaus, Nine Inch Nails, Van Halen, A Flock of Seagulls, dUg Pinnick (Kings X), ICE-T, guitar icon Zakk Wylde, Rolan Bolan, and many others. "The title was inspired by a painting from a talented German artist Maren Platzhoff, which also became the album’s cover. As Michael Rozon and I began writing the music for this release, I knew I wanted to blend artists from our first two releases with some amazing new members to our BIC family," says Michael Ciravolo. This eight song release features BIC alumni Ashton Nyte, Holy Wars firecracker Kat Leon, and both Wayne and Cinthya Hussey. Ciravolo shares “I love bringing in ‘less famous’ but certainly no less talented artists to the fold, and I think this album does just that”. Leo Luganskiy, Julian Shah-Tayler, former Silence In The Snow frontwoman Cynthia Isabella, The Bellwether Syndicate’s William and Sarah Faith, and Patrik Mata (main-man of seminal darkwave band Kommunity FK) bring immense and diverse talents to “Dancing With Angels”. Ciravolo describes this album as sort of a "sonic regression and a sonic progression", noting “I meant this as a positive thing, taking some of the post-rock elements of our debut album, the stark dark bits that run through ‘The Storm Before The Calm' and the gothy dreamy-gaze of 'Behind The Veil’. It was definitely going a bit backwards to take a few steps forward!”
My Music Episode 315 - Sabatta
mardi 7 novembre 2023 • Duration 30:51
London alternative-psychedelic rock artist Sabatta has released his new single 'Get Over Yourself', the second taste of his new album 'How To Get Even’ (out on November 17 via Blackfriars Entertainment) with a video that introduces the unique guitar - The Pick! Aka AfroGuitar! ‘Get Over Yourself' deals with ‘build em up, break em down’ celebrity culture via a barrage of grimy riffs, pumping bass and pounding drums. This relentless rocker is anchored by a heavy and hypnotic chorus, which backs the vocal mantra of the track’s title! Also included is a shredfest solo, as ferocious as a social media comment section! Beware, no one is safe, as the saying goes ‘the internet is undefeated!’ Revolving around guitarist and songwriter Yinka Oyewole, who was raised in Essex and is of Nigerian lineage, Sabatta crafts a raw and individual sound with spiky guitar and an inimitable voice, like a mix of Hendrix, QOTSA and early Red Hot Chili Peppers strained through the sieve of South London. And it's no wonder with musical influences ranging from Curtis Mayfield, Prince, Tupac and Hendrix to Bad Brains, Thin Lizzy, Parliament / Funkadelic and Black Sabbath. "Inspiration for ‘Get Over Yourself’ came from the current thirst for fallen idols. It’s like a modern day version of human sacrifice, but lives have been replaced by reputations and the Gods are the insatiable beasts of social media opinion. Beware, no one is safe, as the saying goes ‘the internet is undefeated!" says Yinka Oyewole. #NewMusic #Interview #SocialMedia

My Music Episode 310 - John Douglas
mardi 24 octobre 2023 • Duration 17:04
One of Scotland’s finest songwriters - John Douglas of Trashcan Sinatras fame - presents his debut solo album, released via Scotland's Reveal Records, along with a self filmed nostalgic video for the album's opening track 'Lost'.
This record presents an intimate snapshot of the talent, charisma and depth of this celebrated Scottish indie songsmith - the start of a new chapter in Douglas' creative life as he simultaneously looks back at a lifetime of musical adventures and accolades and moves forwards.
The album 'John Douglas' features new recordings of some of John's favourite Trashcan Sinatras material, alongside new songs he has written and his own rendition of the Prefab Sprout classic ‘We Let The Stars Go’.
The eleven songs on this record were performed solo, recorded live at Kyoti Studio in Glasgow (with no overdubs) by producer Mark Freegard (New Model Army, Lush, The Breeders, Del Amitri, Marillion), who also mixed and mastered the album.
“I’ve often been encouraged by friends over the years to make a solo album, but the timing or inclination didn’t flow. Last year - out of nowhere - everything suddenly felt right and the process was quick and natural. Mark just set the mics up and I played my songs. No other musicians or overdubs. Me and my guitar. That way, I became the songs and they became me. The finished record, though varied in song styles, has a mood to it… it’s warm, thoughtful and quiet.. as I generally aspire to be," says John Douglas.
