Episode 244
jeudi 5 septembre 2024 • Duration 26:43
Welcome to episode 244 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!
The 2024 edition of ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship is in the books! The race takes place on the first Monday of September every year and no two years are alike. We’ve mentioned before that the legendary course is the main character in this Swimrun tale and teams must accept and go through all the challenges that it throws at them as they write their story. In this special episode, we share our race recap for what was a challenging day out on the Stockholm Archipelago and the story lines that we learned about through our reporting (i.e., from blowing up people’s DMs).
Enjoy!

Katie Knight
Episode 148
jeudi 3 novembre 2022 • Duration 49:03
Welcome to episode 148 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!
We have something special for this week’s show. Joining us in Studio G is the amazing obstacle course racing, ultramarathon running, CrossFit games competing, Swimrun World Championship finishing and all around amazing human being: Katie Knight. Her story of how she got to ÖTILLÖ and raced with the one and only Nicolas Remires is amazing and we’re stoked to share it with all of you.
But first...
Training Update
It’s race week! Our last Swimrun of the year is just around the corner and we are super stoked to be closing out the year (for the third year in a row) at Ödyssey Swimrun Austin. Hope to see you all there!
Shoutouts
Our shoutout this week goes to Braden Bell. He reached out to us earlier in the year to let us know that he was going to train to race his first Swimrun, and after putting in the work and being an early beneficiary of the “LTBz Gear Loan Program,” we will be lining up in Austin. We’re stoked for him and know that he will have a blast!
Feats of Endurance
This week’s winner is friend of the pod, Brooke Fallon. She ran the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C. over the weekend and finished with a great time. (You can learn more about Brooke by listening to Episode 114 of the show where we interview Brooke and her daughter, Samantha, A.K.A. Team Fearless Fallons.)
Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff.
This Week in Swimrun
We’ve got a short one for everyone this week.
Swimrunman recently announced the dates for their 2023 events. They will be hosting 3 events in France and all offer multiple distance options, ÖTILLÖ merit race points, and epic locations.
Speaking of ÖTILLÖ, they are hosting their final race of the year this weekend on the island of Malta. If you want to learn more about this race, check out Episode 98 for a race recap show with one of our favorite teams/humans, Bronwen and Greg of The Boston Wetsox.
Finally, are you looking to upgrade your swim paddle game? (That’s mostly a rhetorical question.) Make sure you head over to frankpaddle.com to pre-order a set of their Pro paddles. We love these paddles and love the attention to detail that goes into every set. Need more of an incentive? (Another mostly rhetorical question.) Everyone who places a pre-order will be entered into a drawing to win a set of paddles that have been custom painted by the Löw Tide Böyz. Yeah, we know. Wild!
That is it for this week. Feel free to reach out and let us know if there’s anything that you’d like for us to mention on the show.
Show Business
Join us in Pace Bend Park for an LTBz/Wild Swimrun shakeout Swimrun/FIKA on Saturday, Nov. 5th at 11am at Camp Tex Lake where packet pickup and the start/finish will be for Sunday’s race.
Katie Knight
It was great to chat with Katie. She is an amazing athlete and a great ambassador for everything that she does. In this conversation we discussed her athletic background, what the World’s Toughest Mudder entails, and how she found herself at the start line of ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship in early September. She was featured in this year’s hype movie so make sure that you check that out to get even more details on her Swimrun journey. This was an inspiring conversation and we know that you will love it and much as we did!
Katie owns her own coaching business called Knighttimetraining.com and listeners can find her on Instagram.

One Water Race Recap: Part III w/Bend Racing
Episode 147
jeudi 27 octobre 2022 • Duration 01:11:38
Welcome to episode 147 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!
On this week’s show we have the third installment of our four-part series recapping the inaugural One Water Race. Joining us on this episode is the entire Team 3 - USA, A.K.A. Bend Racing. We’ve never had so many people on one podcast and we’re here for it! Joining us are team captain Jason Magness, Tim Gorbold, Renee Metivier and Chris Wright. Folks in adventure racing circles are certainly familiar with Bend Racing and it was great to chat with them about their race experience.
But first...
Training Update
Our 2022 Swimrun season is almost over but not before going out with a bang and a couple of Yeehaws! at Ödyssey Swimrun Austin in two weeks. We will be doing some “training” but mostly trying to keep things steady until race day.
Shoutouts
Our shoutout this week goes to friend of the pod and previous guest Rick Mann. He recently suffered a heart attack during a training ride a few weeks ago. Our thoughts are with him and his family as he continues to recover…which appears to be going great since he’s already crushing monster swims in the Atlantic Ocean like he used to.
Feats of Endurance
This week’s winner is Glenn Wilko. He finished second in the Oceania Adventure Race on the Gold Coast of Australia over the weekend and it definitely looked like a feat of endurance. It took him (and his team) 25.5 hours to complete the 114 mile course with over 19,000ft. of elevation gain. Strong work!
Bonus shoutout to our friend Danny “Da Monster” Dvinov for finishing in 12th overall (out of 2,900 participants) at Ironman California. He continues to live up to his nickname!
Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff.
This Week in Swimrun
We’ve got a short one for everyone this week.
ÖTILLÖ Cannes is in the books and the conditions were a repeat of last year, i.e., awesome! Congrats to Hugo and Max for keeping their season win streak alive as they head to the last ÖTILLÖ race of the year on the island of Malta in a few weeks.
Speaking of Cannes…make sure that you check out the race film by our friend Rasmus on Youtube.
The week after Cannes, the 6th edition of Swimrun Cote D’Azur took place up the coastline in France. The race conditions looked amazing and we love that they have three distance options that make the event as welcoming and inclusive as can be. We are dreaming about flying out to do both races back to back in the near future.
That is it for this week. Feel free to reach out and let us know if there’s anything that you’d like for us to mention on the show.
Show Business
Join us in Pace Bend Park for an LTBz/Wild Swimrun shakeout Swimrun/FIKA on Saturday, Nov. 5th at 11am at Grisham Trail near where the cliff jump will be. We love hosting these shakeouts and this one is going to be extra special because we will have some special guests joining us including Bill and Chrissy, A.K.A. Team Mr. and Mrs. B, and Alex Sheen who are flying in from the U.K. for the race.
One Water Race Part III: Team 3 - USA
It was great to get Team 3’s race report. As we mentioned at the beginning of the show, Bend Racing is legendary in the adventure racing world and we learned why. In this conversation we spoke about how they got their team together, how they approached training, and got a detailed race report of their experience on the Archipelago. This was an emotional conversation since no one likes talking about DNF’s but we loved their candor and humility. Enjoy!
That’s it for this week’s show. If you are enjoying the Löw Tide Böyz, be sure to subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast player and leave us a five-star review. You can find us on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Google Podcast, and on YouTube. You can also follow our meme page on Instagram. Email us at [email protected] with any feedback and/or suggestions. On this week’s show we have recap our penultimate race of the season: Swimrun NC. Race directors Herbert, Jan, and Jeff put on an amazing event and the positive Swimrun vibes were in ample supply at Hanging Rock State Park in Danbury, North Carolina. This race was so much fun (and so hard) and we’re stoked to share our race report for this “unique” event with all of you.
Swimrun NC is taking a year off but will be back in 2024. We highly recommend that folks check out this event. We will definitely be back!

Welcome to episode 145 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!
On this week’s show we have the second installment of our four part series recapping the inaugural One Water Race. Joining us for this episode is the captain of Team 8 - Australia, Rob Preston. Team 8 surprised a bunch of folks with their second place finish and Rob shares his team’s journey with us.
But first...
Training Update
It’s race week! We are super stoked to be heading to North Carolina for SwimrunNC and hanging out at Hanging Rock State Park.
Shoutouts
Shoutout and thank you to our newest Patron on Patreon: Kathryn Meinhardt. Thank you so much for the support Kathryn and best of luck on your upcoming Ironman. She’s also part of the Brazen Racing crew so bonus shoutout just for that!
Feats of Endurance
This week’s winner is Kate Klein. She ran the Chicago Marathon over the weekend and did great. It was a good “tune up” for Ödyssey Swimrun Austin that she’ll be racing next month.
Bonus award goes to the recently crowned 2022 Ironman World Championship Age Group 40-44 Winner Jana Richtrova. She crushed it out there!
Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff.
This Week in Swimrun
We’ve got a couple of updates for everyone this week.
Swimrun season is winding down in the Northern Hemisphere and we are officially bummed out about that…but also excited to see the season end with some top notch events on the schedule.
Last Sunday, the Madeira Swimrun took place in Portugal. Race director and former guest of the show Bruno Safara definitely knows how to put on a Swimrun and this event looked spectacular.
Swimrun Portugal has just one more race on their schedule for 2022 so make sure to check out their Azores Island Swimrun on October 30th.
ÖTILLÖ Cannes is happening this weekend in France and if the race conditions are anything like they were last year, well participants are in for a treat!
Here in the States, there are just two Swimrun events left for 2022 with SwimrunNC taking place this coming weekend and Ödyssey Swimrun Austin on November 6th.
That is it for this week. Feel free to reach out and let us know if there’s anything that you’d like for us to mention on the show.
Show Business
One last reminder: if you’re racing SwimrunNC, make sure to join us for a shakeout Swimrun at 3pm after packet pickup to do some final gear checks and scope out a bit of the course. Plus there will be fika at the end. Get all the info on FB here.
One Water Race Part II: Rob Preston
It was so great to chat with Rob about his team’s experience at the One Water Race. Team 8 - Australia had an awesome race and Rob really helped paint a picture of what it took to finish in 2nd place. In this conversation we chatted about why he decided to put a team together, how they trained, and what it was like being out there for 49 hours and 52 minutes. Rob is an adventure racing legend and it was cool getting to know him and now introducing him to all our listeners. Enjoy!
That’s it for this week’s show. If you are enjoying the Löw Tide Böyz, be sure to subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast player and leave us a five-star review. Maria Rohman
Episode 144
jeudi 6 octobre 2022 • Duration 52:56
Welcome to episode 144 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!
On this week’s show we welcome back the co-founder of Wild Swimrun and all around amazing human being, Maria Rohman. Hard to believe that the last time we had Mia on was all the way back in episode 10 but she’s back to share all the latest news at Wild Swimrun and her thoughts on how to inspire the next generation of Swimrunners.
But first...
Training Update
SwimrunNC is a little over a week away! Not sure we’ll get a Swimrun practice in before the race but we’ll definitely be hitting steep hills to get ready for the terrain.
If you’re racing SwimrunNC, make sure to join us for a shakeout Swimrun at 3pm after packet pickup to do some final gear checks and scope out a bit of the course. Plus there will be fika at the end. Get all the info on FB here.
Shoutouts
This week we are shouting out Chipper’s buddy Nate who finished the Run Rabbit Run 100 miler. It took him 31ish hours to complete the grueling course that had over 16,000ft of elevation gain. He also got stung by bees during the race! Strong work señior!
Feats of Endurance
This week’s Feats of Endurance winner is Rob Balucas. Back in 2015, Rob was in a serious bike accident in Marin County while training for his first 70.3 triathlon and was paralized from the waist down. In the year’s since he’s racing a bunch of Ironmans, is involved in the Challenged Athletes Foundation, and basically goes around inspiring people all day. Fast forward to today…at the time that this podcast is released Rob is racing the Ironman World Championship in Kona for the first time! Best of luck and we’re rooting for you!
Bonus shoutout to Helen Wikmar who is also racing her first Ironman World Championship today!
Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff.
This Week in Swimrun
We’ve got a super short update this week.
The Troll Enez Swimrun took place in France over the weekend and this ÖTILLÖ Merit Race did not disappoint. Shout out to friends of the pod Matthieu Poullain and Eugenie Plane for winning the mixed division and coming in 2nd overall on the 50km course. (In case anyone hasn’t gotten their mind blown today…they finished with a bonkers time of 4:32!) Speaking of the course, the race takes place in the Gulf of Morbihan in Brittany. I looked up this location on the internets and I have three words for our listeners: “inland sea archipelago!”
Coming up next weekend is ÖTILLÖ Cannes and I can already feel the FOMO levels rising. Last year’s race was every Swimrunner’s dream and this year it looks to be no different. BTW, they still have slots available so if you’re feeling like Swimrunning in the south of France next weekend, by all means let us live vicariously through you.
That is it for this week. Feel free to reach out and let us know if there’s anything that you’d like for us to mention on the show.
Show Business (the segment formally called Updates)
This week’s episode is all about the positive vibes that make Swimrun such an amazing sport and community. Help us grow this community by considering donating to the Wild Swimrun’s WILD Youth Initiative. This initiative helps fund women and girls to attend one of Wild Swimrun’s awesome camps. Since episode 10 we’ve raised enough money to fund two scholarships and we are close to funding a third. Head over to lowtideboyz.com and scroll to the bottom to donate to this amazing program.
Maria Rohman
It was so great to catch up with Mia. We’ve kept in touch since we met her and Fanny Kuhn in Catalina and it was great to see her in Sweden a few weeks back. We asked her to come back on the show to talk about how to introduce kids and families to Swimrun and get an update on all things Wild Swimrun. This conversation had all the feels and one again reaffirmed to us that Mia is one of Swimrun’s greatest ambassadors. We know you will love it as much as we did. Enjoy!
That’s it for this week’s show. If you are enjoying the Löw Tide Böyz, be sure to subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast player and leave us a five-star review. One Water Race Recap: Part I w/ Thomas Ogander
Episode 143
jeudi 29 septembre 2022 • Duration 58:04
Welcome to episode 143 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!
On this episode we are doing something new and starting a four part series to do a proper recap of this year’s inaugural One Water Race. If you don’t know what we’re talking about, the One Water Race is a 250km (200km of running and 50km of swimming) adventure race across the entire Stockholm Archipelago. Joining us for Part I we welcome back to the show Co-founder and Race Director, Thomas Ogander to get his race recap of this truly epic event.
But first...
Training Update
Training for SwimrunNC is on! We are dialing back the swimming from our 6,000yd Tuesdays and our 4 hour Swimrun Saturdays and will be hitting the hills. Fun times!
Shoutouts
This week we are shouting out our latest Patrons on Patreon. A huge thank you to Chris Wright, Liz Baugher and Matt Skavnak for your support. We really, really appreciate it!
Feats of Endurance
This week’s Feats of Endurance winner is Caleb Baity. Over the weekend he won the Psychoactive Last Runner Standing race in Huntersville, NC. This race is 1.25 mile loop course where athletes just do loops until…well you can figure it out from there. Caleb ended up running 48 laps for a total of 60 miles! Strong work!
Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff.
This Week in Swimrun
We’ve got some fun updates this week.
As Keen as Mustard hosted their Grafham Water Swimrun in Huntingdon UK this past Sunday. Shoutout to Jonathan Littlewood, Fred Newton, and Alex Sheen for strong performances! If you’re in the UK and looking to try Swimrun, definitely check out this race series. You can learn more about it on Episode 56 of the podcast where we interviewed the mother/daughter race directing duo of Nicky and Chelsey Bailey.
Moving across the channel to France, Swimrun de Carcassone took place and it looked like a blast. Shoutout to friends of the pod Matthieu Poullian and Nicolas Remires who were at the event.
Now moving north, the Koster Swimrun took place and dare I say that we have added another race to the bucket list. Similar to ÖTILLÖ, athletes took a ferry to the Koster Archipelago (Sweden’s only marine national park) on Friday, raced on Saturday, and took a ferry back to the mainland on Sunday…after what looked like a solid breakfast. A lot of heavy hitters were are this race including Adriel Young and Max Andersson, who won the Men’s division, Desirée Andersson and Anna Hellstrom won the Women’s division, and Annika Ericsson and Fredrik Granström won the Mixed division…while repping for Kraken Swimrun.
Moving east-ish, the 5th edition of the Swimrun Urban Challenge Dusseldorf took place and the turnout looked great! We love these easily accessible Swimrun events to help lower the barrier to entry for folks curious about the sport.
Finally, in other Swimrun-related news, friend of the pod and amazing Swimrunner Sabina Rapelli has launched her own coaching business called No Limit Coaching where she will be working with Swimrunners, multi-sport athletes as well as disabled athletes and older adults. We are super stoked for her and wish her all the best! You can learn more about her coaching offerings at nolimitscoaching.ch.
That is it for this week. Feel free to reach out and let us know if there’s anything that you’d like for us to mention on the show.
Show Business (the segment formally called Updates)
We recently surpassed 100,000 downloads and with our new milestone we have some new stickers to giveaway! Our friend Sebastian, A.K.A. @the_radberg designed the sticker and we’re super stoked to share it with you all. If you want a free sticker or two, head over to lowtideboyz.com/stickers and fill out the form. These are going like fresh Kannelbullar so don’t delay if you want a free sticker.
One Water Race Part I: Thomas Ogander
It was great to catch up with Thomas Ogander after he made his dream of putting on the One Water Race a reality. When we first chatted with Thomas about the event back in Episode 104, we knew that this event was going to be epic. Fast forward almost 10 months from that conversation and we have the race in the books, a movie about the event will be released soon, and plans are underway for next year’s edition. In this conversation we chatted with Thomas about what it was like to go from ideation to execution of the race, what it was like on the ground, and what he plans on improving for next year. His passion for Swimrun, preserving nature, and epic feats of endurance shine through in the interview and we know that you will get your minds blown as much as we did. Enjoy!
That’s it for this week’s show. If you are enjoying the Löw Tide Böyz, be sure to subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast player and leave us a five-star review. Team Old Man Speed
Episode 142
jeudi 22 septembre 2022 • Duration 01:19:16
Welcome to episode 142 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!
On this episode we share our last ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship-related conversation for a while. Joining us this week are friends of the pod Lars Finanger and Andy Blow, A.K.A. Team Old Man Speed. Like the band in Blues Brothers where a motley crew of musicians come together for one incredible show, Lars and Andy teamed up to put on a Swimrun performance. Spoiler alert: they had a great day on the archipelago a few weeks back and it was great to chat with them about how the race unfolded for them.
But first...
Training Update
Training is still in the “do what you feel like doing” stage but we foresee a mini-build coming soon for our next race, SwimrunNC, taking place in just four weeks. (If you’re racing SwimrunNC, make sure to check out our course preview episode.)
Shoutouts
This week we are shouting out Sheila and Team Flying Squirrels. She is Chipper’s Mother in Law and has been a die hard supporter of us since we started the show. Dare I say that no other family member has listened to as many shows as she has? Anyway, it just so happened that she was in Orcas Island this past weekend on vacation and heard that there was a Swimrun happening from Team Flying Squirrels on the ferry over. In a classic Sheila move, she asked them if they had heard about the Low Tide Boyz! Rock star!
Feats of Endurance
This week we have two Feats of Endurance winners: First, Abby Rose (a previous winner) just swam the Pailolo Channel over the weekend, an 8.4 mile swim from the island of Maui to the island of Moloka’i. Second, Steve Henn wins with just an epic Strava title, “Morning ride to Aphroditie’s temple,” while on vacation in Greece. Strong work all around!
Bonus shoutout to everyone that raced Ödyssey Swimrun Orcas Island over the weekend. The FOMO level was extremely high. That first swim though!

We’re keeping it short this week.
One of our favorite races, Ödyssey Swimrun Orcas Island, took place over the weekend and the weather looked amazing. For more details on how the race unfolded, we have another edition of Race Director Reports with Ödyssey co-founder and today’s guest, Lars Finanger. Enjoy!
Yes, join us at Ödyssey Swimrun Austin to close out the USA’s Swimrun season. We can’t recommend this race enough. It’s great for first-timers and experienced Swimrunners alike.
Over in Europe, Italy held their Aquaticrunner Solo Swimrunner “World Championships.” It looked like a great day out there. Special shout out to friend of the pod, Christian Götz, for a stout second place finish in the “non-italian” division just a few weeks after racing ÖTILLÖ.
That is it for this week. Feel free to reach out and let us know if there’s anything that you’d like for us to mention on the show.
Updates
Check out our latest episode of Gear Talk with Annie and Brooke from the Swimrun Labs where we breakdown our gear choices at ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship, what we wish we had done differently, and so much more.
Celebrations are in order! A few weeks ago we surpassed 100,000 downloads and we are honestly humbled that so many folks have checked out the show. When we started this thing, our mission was to help grow the sport of Swimrun but that does not happen without the support of all the fans that have been tuning in for our brand of super niche content. Thank you so much for sticking with us!
A new milestone means new stickers! Our friend Sebastian, A.K.A. @the_radberg designed the new sticker and we’re super stoked to share it with you all. #nospoilers If you want a free sticker or two, head over to lowtideboyz.com/stickers and fill out the form.
Team Old Man Speed
When a couple of amazing athletes (former pro/could still be pro triathletes) decide to race ÖTILLÖ together and then name themselves Team Old Man Speed, you roll your eyes a bit but you don’t have to be a couple of amateur journalists like the Löw Tide Böyz to know that there’s a good story there. Both previous guests of the show, Lars and Andy love Swimrun and jumped at the chance of racing together…once their wives said that it was ok. In this conversation we get their race report on what was an amazing day on the Archipelago while chronicling their decades long friendship, and sharing a lot of laughs along the way. This was a great chat and we know that you will love it as much as we did.
Finally, you can support our efforts on Patreon…if you feel so inclined.
Thanks for listening and see you out there!
