Dr Jake Sloane & David Segal - 'What's trending in aesthetics? (Chapter 2)' #257

Season 1 · Episode 257

jeudi 6 juin 2024Duration 01:14:36

Episode 257 showcases our hosts Dr Jake Sloane & David Segal.

In our 'What's trending in Aesthetics?' mini-series of episodes we discuss topics that have been popular with injectors on social media or in the news. We'll cover controversies, big stories and themes that have got our industry talking.

In Chapter 2 we cover an article published by The Sun newspaper in the UK. This reported that Laser Clinics UK (with 50 locations built in the last few years) had suddenly been forced to liquidate several of its clinics. This decision left staff jobless and patients angry, with many having paid for treatments in advance with no recourse or refunds offered.

We discuss the global trends that have led to this, other issues that larger chain clinics often struggle with and make some predictions about how difficult the next 12-24 months might be.

Episode 167 hosts Dr Steven Harris & Julie Horne.

Dr Harris is a leading cosmetic physician based in London, UK. (We previously hosted Dr Harris in Episode 122) He has an international reputation for his approach to injecting. He strongly believes in treating the face holistically and by fully respecting the patient’s anatomy and it's proportions.

Julie is a Registered Nurse and a global speaker based in Johannesberg, South Africa (We previously showcased her background in Episode 119) She is best known for her lip filler treatments and lip filler training where she showcases her own ‘Julie Horne Lips’ technique.

In this mini-series called 'Treatments & Regions Uncovered', we drill down into how to approach specific areas of the face, what techniques can be used and what our guests have changed over time as they've mastered their techniques. Dr Jake also give his own insights into how he treats these areas too.

In the 3rd chapter of the series we explore lip fillers and peri-oral treatments. Dr Harris and Julie Horne are both globally known for their contrasting styles when it comes to the lip region and we get a better understanding of how each of them approach this area of the face.

We’ll also explore the patient perspective and get an understanding of their needs and complaints, as well as discussing any alternative treatment options that might be considered.

We discuss the anatomy and facial ageing signs of the area to better understand what’s happening before going on a deep dive to find out:

- How our guests do it

- What products and tools they prefer and why

- What approaches they use and why

- What we can learn from their experiences and the complications that they’ve encountered

We specifically cover:

- The anatomy of the lips and the perioral region

- The impact of the bony platform and dentition on the lips: what should injectors know?

- What female patients want when they request lip and peri-oral treatments

- The lip filler consultation: what questions should injectors be asking?

- Who shouldn't we treat for lips fillers with respect to age, previous treatments and the issue of overfilling

- Managing patients who’ve been elsewhere and want ‘a bit more’: the art of educating patient, saying no and when dissolving may be appropriate

- A deep dive into our guests methods of treating the lips: The Non-Surgical Lip Lift (NSLL) & Julie Horne Lips

- Some finer details of lip treatments:

What should we do for patients with a long, flat philtrum?

How & when should we treat the philtral columns?

How and when should we treat the oral commissures?

- Lip filler downtime and aftercare: what to say and do for patients about swelling, bruising and ‘lumps’?

- The dangers of lip fillers including vascular occlusions and how to reduce this risk

- What fillers should injectors use in the lips and what rheological factors might influence their choice?

- Are cannulas ever appropriate for a lip filler?

- Lip flips: what is this technique and how do you do it?

- Peri-oral lines: what are they and what’s the best way of approaching them

- Gummy smiles: how to treat them and should we treat them?
