It has been almost a year since I lasted released a podcast episode, and so I felt like I needed to explain, while providing an opportunity to feel seen, heard and validated if you have found it hard to speak up and be yourself too. 

So you will hear me talk about personal stuff, how I have been feeling about the photo and video industry, and the wedding industry. But most importantly how I have waited to work through how I was feeling without making snap decisions or judgements, because I hope to be able to find a way to be happy and content with the industry and my job!

Honesty is the best way to live and I want to be honest with you. Getting this off my chest provides the best foundations to move forward, and I hope you will find it helpful. Here is to your future, my future, and all the stuff I look forward to sharing from here.

The guest on this episode is a great example of constantly innovating and moving with the times whilst continuing to create outstanding work. 

Jeff Wood is a wedding filmmaker who started capturing weddings back around 2008 and has worked with celebrity and luxury clients as well as being an influence for many UK wedding videographers over the past decade. 

But rather than just sticking with the status quo, Jeff has embraced the way technology has started to change the industry and has started using his iPhone to provide new opportunities to be creative. 

We discuss everything from keeping the name of his business and his choice of equipment open so he could do either photo or video. To sitting on private jets with celebrities, judging awards, monitoring the next generation of wedding filmmakers and what the future holds for wedding filmmakers.

If you are into filming, cinematography and technology then you will really enjoy listening to Jeff describing his processes and how you can use your phone as a high end cinema camera. 

This is a real glimpse into the future, but maybe we are already there. A great conversation, I really enjoyed this one.

In the middle of 2024 there is so much talk in the wedding industry, specifically amongst wedding photographers and wedding videographers about how enquiries are down, bookings are down. 

The general concusses appears to be that it is more challenging to run a small wedding business at the moment, so for photographers and filmmakers we wanted to discuss ways to create opportunities to make money and develop additional revenue streams. 

And as usual, we have a good laugh along the way and share our experiences of trying, testing and implementing those additional opportunities to earn more money from using our cameras and the skills we have developed over the years.

On Episode 3 of the Wedding Mavericks podcast I am interviewing Jane & Ben, the owners of New Craven Hall.

This unique, industrial/urban venue in Leeds was transformed from  a warehouse home to a nightclub, into a stunning wedding venue in just 6 weeks by Jane and Ben, after they identified a gap in the market, to create a wedding venue that people like them would want to celebrate in.

This was such a great story to listen to and there was so much great information that came out of it for anyone starting a wedding business. The real takeaway is inspiration, as there story highlights that anyone can take an idea and turn it into a reality without huge amounts of money or industry specific experience.

Things might be difficult right now for all of us who work in the wedding industry. Financially the pandemic has hit us extremely hard and there is a lot of short and medium term uncertainty. But what we do know is things will eventually improve and people will still get married, have weddings and plan celebrations. 

We know our industry will come back to life. For this episode I wanted to revisit a topic from episode 81 where I talked about how the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 could be a game changing cameras for hybrid shooters. Now I have had the opportunity to use it for a few more months on a variety of projects I wanted to give you a more up to date view of how useful it is as a tool for hybrid content creation or as a pure filmmaking tool for weddings and commercial work. 

I discuss the positives and negatives, how I have been using it. I also discuss some of the other recent gear purchases I have made and why I added them to my hybrid photography and videography set up.

In the last episode we discussed the options when it came to choosing a camera to shoot hybrid photo and video coverage. The natural follow on it the discussion around lenses. 

We reveal what our favourite lens is and what are go to piece of glass is for different parts of a wedding day. We have a debate over zooms vs primes and ponder over what direction we might go in the future.
