Did you know that “Cortisol” is a stress-responsive hormone that can be released in response to challenges or threats? Yes, it’s true! That’s why when we feel stressed, our cortisol levels rise and this can be a negative thing for us because high amounts of cortisol cause many side effects such as increased heart rate.  

The good news? You can take steps now to help combat this and create better coping mechanisms for stress! So how do we do that? Cortisol has been found to be a useful stress-coping hormone because it helps you respond more quickly and effectively when faced with danger. This means that there are certain situations where taking this quick action will keep us safe.

It's normal to overeat on occasion, but it's important to be able to distinguish between overeating and binge eating. Overeating and binge eating are often used interchangeably, but they are actually two very different things. 

People who binge eat often feel embarrassed or ashamed afterward and may try to hide their binge eating from others. It is best to know more about this topic especially if you are noticing a problem with how you eat.  

However, with treatment, it is possible to overcome binge eating and develop healthier eating habits. So if you're struggling with your relationship with food, know that there is help available. And remember, taking care of yourself is always worth it.
