113. Dax Dasilva on the Tech-Conservation Paradox and Finding Our Way Back to Nature

Episode 113

mercredi 29 avril 2026Duration 57:10

What does it mean to restore our relationship with the Earth — not just protect it, but belong to it again?

In this episode, Anne sits down with Dax Dasilva, entrepreneur, environmentalist, and author of Echoes from Eden, for a powerful conversation about restoration, belonging, and what it takes to build a livable future.

Drawing from his journeys through the Amazon, the Congo, and Haiti, Dax shares what he’s learned on the frontlines of conservation — and why restoring ecosystems is deeply tied to restoring human dignity, peace, and possibility.

Together, Anne and Dax explore the tension between technology and nature, the power of community-led solutions, and why even the smallest acts of care can ripple forward for generations.

This is a conversation about hope — not the passive kind, but the kind rooted in action, responsibility, and remembering that we are part of nature, not separate from it.

In this episode:

— What inspired Dax to write Echoes from Eden

— Lessons from restoration projects in the Amazon, Congo, and Haiti

— Why conservation and human survival are inseparable

— The importance of ownership and community in creating change

— Technology, regeneration, and the future we’re building

— How small actions shape the world to come

— Why hope is still worth choosing

All proceeds from Echoes from Eden support the Jane Goodall Institute.

Listen in, and ask yourself:

What does it look like to belong to the Earth again?

112. Nature Is Nonpartisan: Reclaiming Conservation as a Shared American Value

mercredi 3 décembre 2025Duration 35:34

Why is it that nature and climate change have become such difficult topics to talk about, especially with people with different political viewpoints than us? Why is climate change so politicized, and how can we come back to the fact that we all, truly, deep inside, care about the same things?

That is the guiding mission behind Nature Is Nonpartisan, a new nonprofit working to restore conservation as a unifying, bipartisan American value. In this episode, I sit down with Amelia Joy, Executive Director of NINP, to unpack why environmentalism has become so politically charged, why fewer people identify as “environmentalists” today, and how we can bring nature back to the center of public life — not as a partisan wedge, but as common ground.

As we’re heading into the holiday season, I couldn’t think of a more important topic to dive into. As Katharine Hayhoe, a former guest on our show, shares over and over again, the most important thing we can do for climate change is talk about it. But how do we talk about it? How do we find the courage to bring up these topics, and how do we make sure the conversation actually leads us to someplace good? If you’re hoping to put nature and our shared future on the table this year, without risking completely wrecking the family party, I hope Amelia and I can provide some pointers.

103. Regeneration Begins Within: Darin Olien on Joy, Health, and Healing the Planet

mardi 22 juillet 2025Duration 01:07:52

Do you ever feel the need to go really deep with someone and throw at them life’s biggest, most thought-provoking questions? That’s how I felt when preparing my interview with Darin Olien. And let me tell you - I didn’t hold back!

In this episode, we talk about the root cause of so much of today’s chaos and how the path to healing starts by coming back to ourselves. We explore why joy is a radical form of resistance, how forgiveness frees us, and why your inner truth might just be your most powerful tool for change. I’m super excited about this conversation because I have a feeling it will unlock so much. More than anything, this talk is healing, so wherever you are listening to this, do yourself a favor and create the spiritual space to truly receive what you’re about to hear.

Who is Darin?

You might know him from the Netflix series Down to Earth with Zac Efron, where he, as a co-host and executive producer, traveled the world from Iceland to Australia, spotlighting sustainable living, indigenous knowledge, and how to forge healthier personal and planetary relationships. But he has so much more to him than just this TV show. Darin is a certified exercise physiologist, wellness entrepreneur, and avid “superfood hunter.” Growing up in Minnesota, he overcame early health challenges, which sparked a lifelong passion for holistic wellness. He went on to co-create wellness programs like Shakeology and Ultimate Reset, and co-founded Barùkas, a sustainable superfood company rooted in reforestation.

Darin is the author of the New York Times bestseller SuperLife, which explores five key life forces for optimal health, and Fatal Conveniences, which exposes hidden toxins in everyday products — offering simple swaps for a healthier life. As host of The Darin Olien Show and founder of the 121 Tribe health app, he continues to unpack “Fatal Conveniences™” and surface actionable insights for anyone wanting to reclaim wellbeing and reconnect with the natural world.

Make sure to listen to the end when a very unexpected guest makes an appearance…

mercredi 9 août 2017Duration 54:42

Would you ever wear roadkill? What does it mean to vote with your wallet? Could it actually be fun to help save the world? In today’s talk with sustainable fashionista Cora Hilts, we put end to some confusion that is Ethical and Sustainable fashion. I mean, what is really the difference between recycled, upcycled and something that’s sustainably made? What does it mean that a piece of clothing is organic?? Is vintage is in our out and is it ok to claim yourself the title of a hero?WHO IS CORA?Cora Hilts who is one of the co-founders of British fashion store RêveEnVerte – a hip and trendy place for consuming ethical and sustainable fashion online. She founded the company together with her partner Natasha four years ago, in response to the evolving nature of contemporary style, something they both felt to be a bit too consumptive and trend-based for their taste. Rêve-En-Vert is their commitment to bettering the world through the medium of fashion and lifestyle. It is a project of passion to support designers who are improving the standards of the design industry.Inspired to try out some sustainable fashion? If you head over to revenvert.com and use code “heychange“, you get a 15 % discount on your first purchase – how awesome is that?? Don’t miss out!!CORA’S RETRUTH:The idea that one person can’t make a change. I think that that has actually been my biggest fear this whole journey of creating Reve, believing that I as an individual don’t have the capacity to do enough. But when I look back on what I’ve been able to achieve over the last 4 years I know I’ve done some good.I mean, look at Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela and right now Elon Musk. They’ve really been showing us that yes, a single individual can really have a huge impact on the world, and never think that you can’t be that individual.Don’t forget to follow them on Instagram: @RevEnVert

E017: Health, Habits and Good Cravings - A Talk with Health Coach Sandrina Bencomo

vendredi 21 juillet 2017Duration 34:02

Allergies, digestive issues, fatigue, stress. Unfortunately, these are all terms that are becoming more and more common in today's world. In my talk with model and integrative nutrition health coach Sandrina Bencomo, we put some light on these commonalities and highlight how that doesn't have to be your destiny, and that you have the power in your hands to decide the life you want to live.

Is it normal to feel tired after we eat, or is that's just a reality we've accepted? A reality we can change? And how can we connect with our bodies and become each other's best friend? Sandrina shares some of her valuable coaching advice and teaches us how there's, for example, no such thing as a bad craving.

Sandrina Bencomo is a beautiful person from the inside out with her roots from Venezuela. She’s a model with Elite Models in New York and she’s also a certified nutrition and health coach. She started her own journey to integrative health when she struggled with a bunch of different things she couldn't find help for. When she realized there weren't answers to be given anywhere, she decided to seek them up herself and once and for all gain power over her own life.

mercredi 5 juillet 2017Duration 37:08

How do we react when we realize that we may not be as healthy as we thought? When is a habit becoming obsessive, and how can we change our ways of being in order to take care of ourselves in better ways? In today’s girl talk with life philosopher, TEDx Speaker, and total babe Kerrin Smith, we talk about everything the Universe has brought to our attention right now. We also discuss the meaning of the word empathy, and how it’s so different to rebel against something bad opposed to standing for something good, even though the underlying cause may be the same.

Kerrin Smith is the founder COOL AND THOUGHTFUL™ and its predecessor CATiD LLC, a passion project with the mission to redefine what it means to be cool. In 2014 she delivered a TEDx talk, The Local Economy of Fashion, and she's all about making that vintage chic look feel just right. mercredi 28 juin 2017Duration 41:26

How can we learn to care about sustainable fashion in a cool and modern way? Do we have to let go of trends and style just because we happen to also care for our planet? Tune into this episode with model activist Renee Peters as we talk about just that and also how to love yourself in the life of an eco-warrior. Do sustainability and positive body image go together? Or do you have to actively practice both to seek that important balance of compassion and self-love?

Learn how Renee has struggled with society's image of a "sample size", and how that at the same time has helped her learn how to love and respect her own body. She shares with us her view on sustainable living, and how adopting such a life actually helped her find her identity and figure out who she truly wants to be.

Renee Peters is a model, living and working in New York City, and an advocate of sustainable living. She strives to be a role model in all that she does, using her platform for positive change. Her blog, Model4GreenLiving, seeks to reshape the way people think about environmental issues and show that it’s cool to care.
