113. Dax Dasilva on the Tech-Conservation Paradox and Finding Our Way Back to Nature29 Apr 202600:57:10

What does it mean to restore our relationship with the Earth — not just protect it, but belong to it again?

In this episode, Anne sits down with Dax Dasilva, entrepreneur, environmentalist, and author of Echoes from Eden, for a powerful conversation about restoration, belonging, and what it takes to build a livable future.

Drawing from his journeys through the Amazon, the Congo, and Haiti, Dax shares what he’s learned on the frontlines of conservation — and why restoring ecosystems is deeply tied to restoring human dignity, peace, and possibility.

Together, Anne and Dax explore the tension between technology and nature, the power of community-led solutions, and why even the smallest acts of care can ripple forward for generations.

This is a conversation about hope — not the passive kind, but the kind rooted in action, responsibility, and remembering that we are part of nature, not separate from it.

In this episode:

— What inspired Dax to write Echoes from Eden

— Lessons from restoration projects in the Amazon, Congo, and Haiti

— Why conservation and human survival are inseparable

— The importance of ownership and community in creating change

— Technology, regeneration, and the future we’re building

— How small actions shape the world to come

— Why hope is still worth choosing

All proceeds from Echoes from Eden support the Jane Goodall Institute.

Listen in, and ask yourself:

What does it look like to belong to the Earth again?

112. Nature Is Nonpartisan: Reclaiming Conservation as a Shared American Value03 Dec 202500:35:34

Why is it that nature and climate change have become such difficult topics to talk about, especially with people with different political viewpoints than us? Why is climate change so politicized, and how can we come back to the fact that we all, truly, deep inside, care about the same things?

That is the guiding mission behind Nature Is Nonpartisan, a new nonprofit working to restore conservation as a unifying, bipartisan American value. In this episode, I sit down with Amelia Joy, Executive Director of NINP, to unpack why environmentalism has become so politically charged, why fewer people identify as “environmentalists” today, and how we can bring nature back to the center of public life — not as a partisan wedge, but as common ground.

As we’re heading into the holiday season, I couldn’t think of a more important topic to dive into. As Katharine Hayhoe, a former guest on our show, shares over and over again, the most important thing we can do for climate change is talk about it. But how do we talk about it? How do we find the courage to bring up these topics, and how do we make sure the conversation actually leads us to someplace good? If you’re hoping to put nature and our shared future on the table this year, without risking completely wrecking the family party, I hope Amelia and I can provide some pointers.

103. Regeneration Begins Within: Darin Olien on Joy, Health, and Healing the Planet22 Jul 202501:07:52

Do you ever feel the need to go really deep with someone and throw at them life’s biggest, most thought-provoking questions? That’s how I felt when preparing my interview with Darin Olien. And let me tell you - I didn’t hold back!

In this episode, we talk about the root cause of so much of today’s chaos and how the path to healing starts by coming back to ourselves. We explore why joy is a radical form of resistance, how forgiveness frees us, and why your inner truth might just be your most powerful tool for change. I’m super excited about this conversation because I have a feeling it will unlock so much. More than anything, this talk is healing, so wherever you are listening to this, do yourself a favor and create the spiritual space to truly receive what you’re about to hear.

Who is Darin?

You might know him from the Netflix series Down to Earth with Zac Efron, where he, as a co-host and executive producer, traveled the world from Iceland to Australia, spotlighting sustainable living, indigenous knowledge, and how to forge healthier personal and planetary relationships. But he has so much more to him than just this TV show. Darin is a certified exercise physiologist, wellness entrepreneur, and avid “superfood hunter.” Growing up in Minnesota, he overcame early health challenges, which sparked a lifelong passion for holistic wellness. He went on to co-create wellness programs like Shakeology and Ultimate Reset, and co-founded Barùkas, a sustainable superfood company rooted in reforestation.

Darin is the author of the New York Times bestseller SuperLife, which explores five key life forces for optimal health, and Fatal Conveniences, which exposes hidden toxins in everyday products — offering simple swaps for a healthier life. As host of The Darin Olien Show and founder of the 121 Tribe health app, he continues to unpack “Fatal Conveniences™” and surface actionable insights for anyone wanting to reclaim wellbeing and reconnect with the natural world.

Make sure to listen to the end when a very unexpected guest makes an appearance…

E018: Wearing Roadkill and Voting with Your Wallet - A Talk with Sustainable Fashionista Cora Hilts09 Aug 201700:54:42
Would you ever wear roadkill? What does it mean to vote with your wallet? Could it actually be fun to help save the world? In today’s talk with sustainable fashionista Cora Hilts, we put end to some confusion that is Ethical and Sustainable fashion. I mean, what is really the difference between recycled, upcycled and something that’s sustainably made? What does it mean that a piece of clothing is organic?? Is vintage is in our out and is it ok to claim yourself the title of a hero?WHO IS CORA?Cora Hilts who is one of the co-founders of British fashion store RêveEnVerte – a hip and trendy place for consuming ethical and sustainable fashion online. She founded the company together with her partner Natasha four years ago, in response to the evolving nature of contemporary style, something they both felt to be a bit too consumptive and trend-based for their taste. Rêve-En-Vert is their commitment to bettering the world through the medium of fashion and lifestyle. It is a project of passion to support designers who are improving the standards of the design industry.Inspired to try out some sustainable fashion? If you head over to revenvert.com and use code “heychange“, you get a 15 % discount on your first purchase – how awesome is that?? Don’t miss out!!CORA’S RETRUTH:The idea that one person can’t make a change. I think that that has actually been my biggest fear this whole journey of creating Reve, believing that I as an individual don’t have the capacity to do enough. But when I look back on what I’ve been able to achieve over the last 4 years I know I’ve done some good.I mean, look at Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela and right now Elon Musk. They’ve really been showing us that yes, a single individual can really have a huge impact on the world, and never think that you can’t be that individual.Don’t forget to follow them on Instagram: @RevEnVert

E017: Health, Habits and Good Cravings - A Talk with Health Coach Sandrina Bencomo21 Jul 201700:34:02

Allergies, digestive issues, fatigue, stress. Unfortunately, these are all terms that are becoming more and more common in today's world. In my talk with model and integrative nutrition health coach Sandrina Bencomo, we put some light on these commonalities and highlight how that doesn't have to be your destiny, and that you have the power in your hands to decide the life you want to live.

Is it normal to feel tired after we eat, or is that's just a reality we've accepted? A reality we can change? And how can we connect with our bodies and become each other's best friend? Sandrina shares some of her valuable coaching advice and teaches us how there's, for example, no such thing as a bad craving.

Sandrina Bencomo is a beautiful person from the inside out with her roots from Venezuela. She’s a model with Elite Models in New York and she’s also a certified nutrition and health coach. She started her own journey to integrative health when she struggled with a bunch of different things she couldn't find help for. When she realized there weren't answers to be given anywhere, she decided to seek them up herself and once and for all gain power over her own life.

How do we react when we realize that we may not be as healthy as we thought? When is a habit becoming obsessive, and how can we change our ways of being in order to take care of ourselves in better ways? In today’s girl talk with life philosopher, TEDx Speaker, and total babe Kerrin Smith, we talk about everything the Universe has brought to our attention right now. We also discuss the meaning of the word empathy, and how it’s so different to rebel against something bad opposed to standing for something good, even though the underlying cause may be the same.

Kerrin Smith is the founder COOL AND THOUGHTFUL™ and its predecessor CATiD LLC, a passion project with the mission to redefine what it means to be cool. In 2014 she delivered a TEDx talk, The Local Economy of Fashion, and she's all about making that vintage chic look feel just right. 102. What If Whale Poop Could Help Save the Planet?15 Jul 202500:37:19

In this episode, I sit down with the creators of Positive Polar, a love-passion-science project inviting you to directly participating in restoring our oceans. The mission? Biochemically mimic whales to restore marine ecosystems, sequester carbon, and turn tourism into a force for regeneration.

Jenn Bonilla, the President of Positive Pola, brings a PhD from Princeton, Stanford training, and deep expertise in commercializing biotech for environmental impact. Hugo Hinrichsen, its CEO and Founder, is an ex-navy officer and polar helicopter pilot whose ancestors were whalers — and restoring the oceans isn’t just work for him, it’s personal. Speaking with the two of them was so invigorating. Their love for whales and all ocean habitat, their willpower to spearhead new possibilities and match science with passion, and their eagerness to get this story out there so that we can start moving forward with climate optimism today, not tomorrow, was truly infectious.

This, dear listener, is climate optimism in action. Let’s dive in.

We explore stories of stubborn climate optimism from around the world, breakthroughs in energy and food, and why the future is still worth fighting for—even when the odds seem impossible.

This isn’t about toxic positivity—it’s real, grounded optimism. And it just might change how you think about hope. Because while hope may not last forever, today is not that day. There is still so much beauty to protect, and being human on this Earth is a gift we still have the chance to reclaim.

100. A World Without Waste: The Radical Power of Smart Design01 Jul 202500:58:34

What if the solution to single-use waste wasn’t more effort, but better design? In today’s episode, I sit down with Mac Sellars from r.World, an award-winning company transforming concerts and sports venues by making the sustainable choice the easiest one. It’s a story of climate optimism, systems change, and the power of rethinking not just what we do, but how we do it.

Together, we get into some often-overlooked but important truths about single-use waste, how the system needs radical rethinking — not just incremental improvements — and the spiritual practices that are woven into all of it. If you’re someone who wants to implement more sustainable practices in your workplace or community, or even your home, get ready to be challenged and inspired in all the best ways.

99. The New Face of Climate Denial - Why Your Voice Matters More Than Ever24 Jun 202500:38:55

A new climate change denial is spreading, and yes, we need to talk about it. So in this episode, I sit down with journalist Samantha Harrington to unpack how climate misinformation is evolving. It’s no longer about denying climate change. Instead, it claims that the solutions don’t work, that clean energy is dangerous, or that the entire climate movement is a form of government control.

We break down how this narrative is gaining ground, why outrage is such a powerful tool for spreading misinformation, and how a lack of response — even from left-leaning media — is part of the problem. But this isn’t just a warning. It’s also a call to action... Get ready to be empowered!

98. From Climate Anxiety to Inner Transformation: The Neuroscience of Change17 Jun 202501:02:04

What if our obsession with certainty is actually making us more stressed? And most importantly, less open to real change?

In this episode, I sit down with psychologist and researcher Norman Farb to explore how our brains prioritize the familiar, often at the cost of creativity, well-being, and resilience. We talk about the myth of multitasking, the power of mind wandering, and why slowing down might be the fastest path to clarity.

Together, we dive into what it means to be truly receptive—to ourselves, to others, and to the world we hope to change. From "retruthing" our perceptions to cultivating presence in a noisy world, Norman offers both science-backed insight and practical tools for anyone feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply curious about how to move forward with more joy and intention.

This one’s for anyone who wants to rethink how we relate to stress, uncertainty, and the stories we tell ourselves about what’s possible. If you care about making positive change in the world, click play and make sure to listen to the end!

97. This is Climate Optimism: Redefining Climate Action with Anne Therese Gennari10 Jun 202501:03:39

What does it look like to embrace optimism when forces around you want you to feel overwhelmed, defeated, and in despair? What is climate optimism, and how do we not mistake it for toxic positivity? And what does a healthy relationship to climate grief actually look like?

In this bonus episode that was originally shared on Climify Podcast, Eric Benson and I have a deeply human and heart-forward conversation about navigating climate grief, spiritual transformation, and the power of slowing down — especially in our climate actions!

I share my journey from climate anxiety and angry activism to grounded, regenerative optimism, and we explore why emotional resilience, imagination, and inner development are essential tools for climate action. We also talk about how to shift from minimizing our footprint to maximizing our unique impact, and the joy that comes with doing climate action your way.

Listen to rediscover climate action as an act of hope, healing, and inner transformation —this is climate optimism, how I see it!

96. What We Can Do - The Art of The Possible with Charlie Sellars03 Jun 202500:54:20

In this conversation, Anne Therese Gennari and guest Charlie Sellars explore the journey of sustainability, emphasizing that every job can contribute to climate action. They discuss the importance of maximizing opportunities in sustainability rather than focusing solely on minimizing negative impacts. The dialogue highlights the need for narrative shifts in climate action and the significance of engaging diverse perspectives.

Additionally, they explore the balance between individual responsibility and corporate accountability in sustainability efforts. The discussion also touches on the political landscape's impact on climate initiatives and the potential for optimism in the face of challenges. Finally, they envision a future where sustainable practices are the norm and emphasize the need for collective action to achieve this vision.

Two climate optimists coming together - this is a conversation you don't want to miss!

About our guest:

Charlie Sellars is the director of sustainability at Microsoft and, most importantly, the author of the newly released book What We Can Do: A Climate Optimist's Guide to Sustainable Living.

His book pulls from his experience at Microsoft to empower people on climate across their Personal, Professional, and Political lives. He helps us realize that all of us are more powerful against climate change than we think, and that while nobody can do everything, everybody can do something - and his book gives pragmatic, data-driven evidence to help direct us to where we can have the most impact across everything we do.

E95. Mental Health & The Climate Crisis09 Oct 202300:57:32

What are eco-emotions and how are they affecting our everyday lives? What role do they play in our ability to – and desire to – make a difference? And how do we overcome these mental barriers that are keeping us paralyzed and stuck in place?

Seeking answers to these questions could be one of the most important topics of our times. Not just for the individual, but also for the world, as it’s a critical step in igniting the curiosity and courage needed to co-create a climate-just future.

Tune into this important conversation with three Fierce and Passionate Climate Authors that was recorded during this year's Climate Week in NYC. Tori Tsui, author of It’s Not Just You, Britt Wray, author of Gen Dread, and Anne Therese Gennari, author of The Climate Optimist Handbook shared the latest research on eco-emotions, tools for healing, and how to grow emotional resilience for the days to come.

The panel was moderated by environmental educator and creator of the digital media platform QueerBrownVegan, Isaias Hernandez.

111. Holding Space for All Climate Emotions: Anger, Grief, and the Power of Inner Work21 Nov 202500:39:31

In this special episode, Anne Therese brings back two of the most impactful conversations from the Hey Change archives — featuring Mike Veny, mental health speaker and advocate, and Jack Adam Webber, author of Climate Cure.

As the days get darker and we naturally turn inward, this episode invites listeners to explore the often-overlooked emotional dimension of climate work. Anne reflects on how feelings like anger, grief, anxiety, and fear are not obstacles but essential tools for our personal and collective healing.

With Mike Veny, we learn how anger can be a superpower — a source of clarity, leadership, and decisive action when approached with curiosity instead of shame. With Jack Adam Webber, we dive deeper into embodied grief and emotional grounding, discovering how feeling our feelings is an act of resistance, reconnection, and regeneration.

This episode is a reminder that climate optimism is not blind positivity — it’s a courageous willingness to feel deeply and act from a place of wholeness, compassion, and inner alignment.

In this episode:

  • How to pay attention to our fear, anger, and anxiety to let it empower you
  • The mental health work required to be a climate optimist

E88. Sustainable Construction & The Future of Cities with Saint-Gobain04 Jan 202200:43:38

When we talk about climate change, we usually talk about how we have to fly less, drive less, eat less meat, cut down our plastic, etc. What we don’t often talk about is the impact of cities, yet cities are responsible for 80 percent of all greenhouse emissions! And cities are only expected to grow. With approximately half of the global population living in cities right now, we’re expecting to see that number increase to two-thirds in 2050. So how do we rise to this challenge? Is it really possible to make cities net-zero or even net-positive?

That is what we’ll get into in this conversation with Benoit Bazin, CEO of Saint-Gobain!

Our Guest

Benoit Bazin is the current CEO of Saint-Gobain, one of the top ten oldest corporations in the world, and an aspiring worldwide leader in sustainable construction. The company was first founded in 1665 by the French King’s minister Colbert, with the intention to get France ahead of the mirror-making business, and ended up producing all the glass for the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles.

With 167,000 employees spanning 110 different nationalities and industrial operations in no less than 70 countries, Saint-Gobain is a company we want with us on the sustainability ride! You currently find their windows in Le Louvre, The Statue of Liberty, the Whitney Museum, and other impressive buildings around the world.

E85. Ice Crisis 101, Reclaiming Pro-Life, and Female Climate Leadership with Sally Ranney19 Oct 202101:20:32

We had the pleasure of speaking with Sally Ranney, the President and Co-Founder of Global Choices, a women-led organization on a mission to drive action on the Ice Crisis and climate change. We spoke with Sally about the profound importance of polar ice and how we are - in fact - all ice dependent species!

The Ice Crisis 101:

  • The Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the planet
  • Every year that goes by, arctic sea ice is reduced by an area about the size of Ireland
  • When the permafrost melts, stored-up, old methane is released
  • Methane is 35 times more effective at trapping heat than CO2
  • Melting sea ice is affecting weather conditions all around the globe
  • The simple fact - we can't grow more ice. Once it's gone, it's gone...

Also in the episode:

  • The renewable challenge and what we can do right now
  • How the laws that govern the sea and the Arctic need to be strengthened
  • 1 ton of CO2 melts 32 square feet of arctic ice ( a flight coast to coast in the US is 1.2 tons of carbon)
  • Women’s role and leadership in systemic change
  • Optimism + Reclaiming “Pro-Life”

Sally Ranney is a powerful leader and advocate, she is the president and co-founder of the American Renewable Energy Institute and AREDAY Summit and she serves on the Board of Directors of the National Wildlife Federation, Women's Earth and Climate Action Network, along with other important Institutes.

Sally's work spans more than forty years and five continents. She is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions such as being honored with the Horace Albright Away, the International Conservation Award, and Earth Guardians' Earth Stewardship Award to name but a few. She was also named one of 35 women to be included in The International Women in Wildlife.

E84. Optimism in Activism with Zanagee Artis from Zero Hour04 Oct 202100:45:05

We had the pleasure of speaking with Zanagee Artis, the 21-year-old founder, co-executive director and policy director for the global, youth-led climate justice organization Zero Hour. Zanagee has been featured in a number of publications for his work on climate justice and climate policy, including The New York Times, Teen Vogue, and edie. Zanagee is also co-author of A Kids Book About Climate Change and co-host of 1 Point 5: A Kids Podcast About Climate Justice.

We spoke to Zanagee about the intersectionality of climate justice and the many ways we can be involved in the climate movement. We also got to hear about an incredible trip coming up for Zanagee: in March of 2022, Zanagee will travel to Antarctica with the 2041 Project as an ambassador of the Global Choices Arctic Angels Network, to raise awareness about the importance of protecting polar ice.

Zanagee also invites US-based Hey Change Podcast listeners to join him in DC for the People vs Fossil Fuels Action October 11-15th. It’s an opportunity for us to put pressure on the Biden Administration to take action on climate change and to support youth-led climate action.

110. The Climate Optimist Venn Diagram: How to Turn Hope into A Practice for Change05 Nov 202500:30:00

What does it really mean to practice optimism in the face of the climate crisis? In this episode, I break down my signature Climate Optimist Venn Diagram — a simple yet powerful framework built on three essential pillars: inner development, taking action, and community.

You’ll learn how optimism isn’t an attitude you simply choose — it’s something you grow through daily practice. I'll share how emotional resilience, meaningful action, and collective care work together to nurture true hope, empower lasting change, and even trigger the body’s “feel-good” hormones that keep us motivated.

Whether you’re an educator, changemaker, business leader, or someone searching for renewed energy in your climate journey, this episode will inspire you to show up with purpose and joy. Ready to become a climate optimist? Here's how you get started!

E83. Rethinking Growth and Uncovering Psychological Barriers with Per Espen Stoknes28 Sep 202100:59:17

This episode is for every climate activist from all parts of the journey, from beginners to experienced eco-nerds, who want to learn how to better engage people into climate-positive actions and mindset! I learned all about Per Espen’s work last summer when I dove deep into his book on human psychology and the many reasons we’re not acting on climate change, and it’s a true honor to have a chance to finally sit down and speak with him.

In this episode:

  • What are the psychological barriers to climate action? (The 5 Ds)
  • How do we rethink growth?
  • What are ESG goals and why are they important?
  • How can we as individuals help fuel healthy green growth?

Per Espen Stoknes, a psychologist with PhD in economics, is a TED Global speaker, climate strategy research, and economist, and serves as the director of Centre for Green Growth at the Norwegian Business School. An experienced foresight facilitator and academic, he’s also a serial entrepreneur, including co-founding clean-tech company GasPlas. He’s also the author of several books, among them Learning from the Future and the award-winning book: What We Think About When We Try Not To Think About Global Warming (2015), as well as his most recent book Tomorrow’s Economy - A Guide to Creating Healthy Green Growth.

E80. Decolonize Your Dinner Plate with Kiani Conley-Wilson from Soul Fire Farm06 Jul 202100:47:46

Did you know that the roots of regenerative agriculture, organic farming, and the farm-to-table movement grew from the work of Black farmers like Dr. Booker T. Whatley and Dr. George Washington Carver? And yet today, Black farmers are highly underrepresented in farming and farm ownership. While the Black population of the US is approximately 13.4%, Black farmers represent 1.3 % of farmers across the US.

In this episode, we had the honor and privilege of speaking with Kiani Conley-Wilson, a grower, activist, and organizer based in Troy, NY. She is passionate about environmental justice, anti-racist/pro-feminist organizing, and the power of food across cultures, economies, and environments. Kiani is the Community Empowerment Coordinator for Soul Fire Farm, which is an Afro-Indigenous-centered community farm committed to uprooting racism and seeding sovereignty in the food system. She also organizes with local organizations to develop people-centered systems and spaces.

This is such a powerful conversation and anyone interested in sustainability, environmentalism and low waste living will learn a lot about how to make their advocacy and daily lives more intersectional.

E79. Microplastics 101 with Madeleine MacGillivray29 Jun 202101:09:28

Did you know that there isn’t a single corner of the Earth where microplastics do not exist? Yes, plastics are taking over our world, but how bad is it, really? We sat down with our friend and colleague Madeleine MacGillivray to take a deep dive (no pun intended) into the topic of microplastics. Tune in to gain a full understanding of what they are, where they come from, and what we can all do about it!

In this episode:

  • What are microplastics?
  • How do microplastics affect human health?
  • That recycling is a myth (but that we should still keep recycling)
  • The truth behind biodegradable packaging
  • What plastics are actually recyclable?
  • How microfibers (from clothes) actually make up most of the plastic pollution
  • What you - and all of us - can do now to make a difference

Nerd out further:

Blood plasma: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6586940/

They're literally everywhere: https://www.americanscientist.org/article/plastics-plastics-everywhere

Microplastics and male fertility: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7967748/

Madeleine MacGillivray is a microplastics expert, a 5 Gyres Ambassador, and a model with Role Models Management in NYC. Since the age of nine, she has been speaking out against water issues when she founded her first non-profit organization, raising awareness about climate change and drought in Africa, and was acknowledged by Bill McKibben's national climate rally. At the age of 16, she was part of the highly influential Our Children’s Trust lawsuit, which sued the US government and the EPA.

Madeleine specializes in marine microplastic pollution and legislation, conducting research in Indonesia, the Arctic, the Bermuda Triangle, and the Galápagos Islands. She’s also the Microplastics Policy and Science Fellow at the women and Indigenous-led environmental organization Seeding Sovereignty. This conversation is so informative and helpful to understand what is going on when it comes to plastic products and their impact on our world. If you’ve been wanting to learn more about microplastics this is your episode.

Guided Meditation - Envisioning a New World with Anne Therese Gennari18 Jun 202100:20:48

A guided meditation to look beyond climate change and envision a new kind of world!

Scripted, recorded, and edited by your host, Anne Therese Gennari.

Visit the website for more resources: www.theclimateoptimist.com

-----

What future could we find ourselves in if we kept some room in our hearts for the unimaginable? What life could YOU have if you allowed yourself to dream and believe?

Too often, we’re bound by our current realities, stressed and filled with worry and fear because we don’t know what the future will look like. We fear change because we don’t know what that change will bring. But we know that everything we’ve ever built, invented, or created, has come from an ability to look beyond what we know to be true now. Our world today consists of millions of manifestations - big and small - made by people who had the courage to dream of something new. People who were brave enough to think of realities that lingered outside their comfort zones; who dared to believe in the unbelievable and imagine the unimaginable, and who found the courage to go explore those new worlds.

When it comes to climate change, the only hope we truly have is to be found in that courage. We must expand our hearts and minds, begin to question everything, and dare to dream. Because maybe change isn’t so bad. Maybe change means that things could be even better. Better in the most unimaginable ways!

I created this guided meditation to help you find the place where YOUR dreams, ideas, and visions live. It will help you broaden your perspective and trust that it’s OK to not know everything. And that the sooner you let go of that need, the sooner you can move into the future where we’re meant to be.

Listen to this meditation daily and you will notice the world around you begin to shift, and you with it, as you become the hero this time needs!

Enjoy!

We were so inspired to talk with Val about her journey, how sobriety led to self-discovery and how doing the inner work is what makes you feel like you belong and can be powerful in the world. 109. Turning Deserts into Forests and Finding Hope in Restoration with James Godfrey-Faussett28 Oct 202500:40:18

Today’s episode is such a special one. I’m joined by James Godfrey-Faussett, a restoration ecologist and founder of the Healing Earth Project, who has spent over two decades bringing degraded land back to life — from city forests to desert landscapes.

James shares what he’s learned from observing nature: that restoration doesn’t have to be complicated, that the Earth already knows how to heal if we give her the chance, and that slowing down might actually be the most powerful climate action we can take. He explains why observation is the first step to healing, how microbiology and fungi are the hidden engines of restoration, and why simplicity and community may be our greatest tools in the age of technology.

This episode is a beautiful reminder that optimism isn’t naive — it’s rooted in what nature shows us every day: resilience, patience, and the possibility of renewal.

So find a quiet spot, take a deep breath, and join us for this conversation on healing the Earth. And it starts, quite fittingly, by listening.
