GITM 119: Tsurune: The Linking Shot - How To Sequel | An Analysis

Season 2

samedi 23 septembre 2023Duration 35:20

Tsurune's Second Season was a blast and an improvement to its predecessor in almost every conceivable way. But what exactly is a sequel and what makes a Tsurune: Tsunagari no Issha a great one? In this episode I try to wrap my head around anime sequels in the context of the show and make some conclusions as to what they are.

GITM 118: The 'Forgotten' Anime of 2022 | An Analysis

Season 2

lundi 10 juillet 2023Duration 39:48

Get In The Mecha is officially back! In this episode I'm catching up on some of the analysis that I missed by talking about some of the sleeper hits of 2022 that I think are worth going back to. How does Tatami Time Machine Blues differ from The Tatami Galaxy? How does The Girl From The Other Side configure into the current anime landscape? What can music videos teach us about storytelling? All this and more in this episode.

Thanks so much for your patience over the first half of this year (and before that) - I'm graduating this month which means I finally have the time to produce the podcast consistently again. I can't wait to share all of my thoughts on a regular basis like before!

GITM 109: There's A Lot Of Anime Coming Out In 2022 | A Preview

Season 2

lundi 27 décembre 2021Duration 29:53

The new year is approaching and a there's a lot of anime on the way. On this week's episode of Get In The Mecha I take a look at the anime projects that I'm most excited for and talk about who is working on them. And at the end I give my take on an important question - can this much anime be sustained by the industry?

GITM 26: The Perfect Dance (Neon Genesis Evangelion Episode 9 Analysis)

Season 1

samedi 11 janvier 2020Duration 44:16

As I have mentioned multiple times, Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) is one of my favourite anime of all time and since I have not looked at the show for a while on the podcast, I thought that it would be nice to take a break from our arc analyses and look closely at one of my favourite episodes in the medium, NGE Episode 9. In this episode I explore the idea of 'maturity', the hedgehog's dilemma's role in this part of the narrative and more. On the side, I contemplate as to whether I should watch the Berserk film trilogy, I share my thoughts on the new yuri shojo manga I have been reading (NTR: Netsuzou Trap) and chat a tiny bit about Fire Force.

GITM 25: Understanding Sakuga | Animation & Cinematography Analysis

Season 1

vendredi 3 janvier 2020Duration 39:16

There’s been a lot of discussion about sakuga and animation in the anime community at the moment, so in this episode I am deciding to tackle the topic. How has the medium evolved from a technical standpoint to get to where we are today? What exactly are ‘sakuga animations’? What pieces of anime stand out in the scene in terms of how they’re animated? These are all topics which will be dissected and analysed in this episode. On the side I talk about yet another borderline-H manga I’ve been reading (Koibana Onsen) and how I am trying my best to get my head around the Marley Arc of the Attack on Titan manga.

Anime / Manga Discussed: Urashima Tarou, Saru Kani Gassen, Tetsuwan Atom, Reconciliation, Ping Pong the Animation, Mob Psycho 100, Koibana Onsen, Attack on Titan.

GITM 24: The Battle of the Trost District Arc (Attack On Titan Analysis & Review)

Season 1

vendredi 27 décembre 2019Duration 48:47

Since I've milked out all the analysis possible from Attack On Titan's Return to Shiganshina Arc, I think it is only fair to look at the arc(s) that got us there in the first place. That means that we have to travel back to Trost, the location of the first battle in 'modern day'. In this episode, I will be taking a dive into the main debate that the arc plays with, rationality versus instinctual behaviour. I will also discuss where the arc excels from a technical standpoint and my overall feeling for this part of the show. On the side, I talk about my experience with the conclusion of Berserk's Golden Age Arc and I share a few of my thoughts on Grave of the Fireflies (1988).

GITM 23: Anime Lessons for the Year | An Analysis

Season 1

vendredi 20 décembre 2019Duration 38:06

The year (and the decade) of anime has concluded and although I did a more in depth analysis of the decade as a whole, I didn't really do a personal look through what I've learnt and how I felt within that. So in this episode, I will be taking a personal look at what I have taken from the anime I have watched recently. On the side, I talk about my alternative tie-hen experience and Hideo Kojima.

GITM 21: Unskippable Openings (2019 Anime Opening Analysis & Review)

Season 1

vendredi 6 décembre 2019Duration 48:57

As 2019 is coming to a close, I thought it would be appropriate to take a journey through some of my favourite openings from this year in anime. In this episode, I take a step back from deep analysis and flick through some of my favourites, what makes them stand out and how the audio and visual components work together in order to form such lovely pieces. On the side, I talk a bit about The Golden Age Arc of the Berserk manga and my recent obsession with TK from Ling Tosite Sigure. Anime Discussed: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, Vinland Saga, The Quintessential Quintuplets, Mob Psycho 100 II, Assassins Pride, Fire Force, Dororo, Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of the Underworld, We Never Learn!, Black Clover, Attack On Titan and Promare.

GITM 20: The Promare Review (Promare (2019) Analysis & Review)

Season 1

vendredi 29 novembre 2019Duration 46:35

Promare has been rolling out more and more throughout the west and I finally got the chance to see it, which means I can now do a bit of analysis! Without any spoilers, I will be taking a look at this action-packed original movie made by Studio Trigger. In this episode I'll be diving into the context behind Promare and Studio Trigger, the 'out of the box' narrative styles of Hiroyuki Imaishi & Kazuki Nakashima and whether the film 'lacks substance' on a thematic level. On the side, I discuss my run in with the h-manga, Nozoki Ana (2009) and the beauty of Millennium Actress (2002).
