Ep 243: From getting sober to styling shags - Interview with Jayne Matthews
lundi 30 décembre 2024 • Duration 55:49
This week, I had the incredible opportunity to chat with Jayne Matthews—hairstylist, educator, and co-owner of Edo Salon and Gallery. In this compelling episode, Jayne opens up about her 20-year sobriety journey and how growing up poor fueled her relentless work ethic. She shares the behind-the-scenes hustle of growing her business, her continuous quest for dopamine, and the broader challenges she faces today.
As we explore these topics, Jayne holds nothing back and that's precisely why I love this conversation so much.
Enjoy !
Be sure to check out Jayne's Instagram HERE.
And you can visit her website here and check out those DIY classes we mentioned HERE.

About Jayne:
"I didn’t choose hair cutting, it chose me. I was raised by a woodworker and a musician, so I was a poor kid trying to make a fashion statement. I started by cutting my own hair to do just that and happened to be very good at it. I was a hairstylist for 5 years before co-opening Edo Salon and Gallery in 1998.
I draw heavily from the styles of 60’s Paris & 70’s Rock and Roll and specialize in framing faces while embracing natural texture with nothing more than my straight razor. I am currently an international educator teaching advanced cutting techniques to hairstylists and I have been featured in the New York Times, Forbes, and CNN. What originally started as a passion for education has now evolved into new territory."

Ep 233: Bad experiences
lundi 14 octobre 2024 • Duration 16:59
We have all had them! We have all thought, "How did this happen?!" or " I cannot believe how this turned out." This is a natural part of growth. It isn't always fun. In fact, sometimes it is downright terrible. But in this episode I share with you how you can be even better after that happens and one question to ask yourself that can change everything moving forward.

EP 145: Interview with Ashely Liberty- Taking risks and opening a gym NOT focused on diet and weight loss.
lundi 16 janvier 2023 • Duration 50:20
Diet culture dropout, Onyx Sweat Society co-founder, community creator, and hype wrangler.
Wait- A gym that ISN'T weightloss focused or aesthetically obsessed?
THAT'S RIGHT!
I'm with Ashley Liberty on the podcast and we chat all about the process to her opening a business, realizing weightloss/nutrition/ body transformation "stuff" was not her jam (and fears around letting that go), and finding her own lane in the fitness industry - and a small town to boot.
Ashley Liberty is the co-founder and CEO of Onyx Sweat Society, a fitness brand focused on community and empowerment.
Once addicted to an unhealthy relationship with exercise and body dysmorphia, Ashley found recovery and became obsessed with helping others do the same by creating a movement experience that felt different than any traditional gym or class she’d been to before, by focusing solely on how the classes make them FEEL, to build strength from within.
Aside from running her biz, she enjoys building a life with her husband and raising their two children and one fur-child in the PNW.
Ashley is a real delight and I am excited to share her, her message, and her community with you.

Ep 142: Different levels of love, hunger, fullness, and exhaustion.
lundi 26 décembre 2022 • Duration 29:15
I often hear from my clients an attempt at validating their....well, most everything honestly!
Looking for a substantial and justifiable reason for feeling the way they do.
Whether it is with love, hunger, fullness, or exhaustion - always hunting for a valid reason.
The problem with this is that there is more than one type of each. But as an all-or-nothing thinker or a perfectionist, you likely only think of 2 options.
In this episode, I share with you the different levels of love, hunger, fullness, and exhaustion.
Ep 141: Why you need to stop worrying about what other people think.
lundi 19 décembre 2022 • Duration 20:54
What other people think.
WOOF.
It can eat you alive, prevent you from ever doing what you want, and consume your whole life.
OR - you can decide, "NOPE - I cannot afford to keep doing this."
In this week's episode, I share with you some different ways of looking at the reality of what happens when you focus on what other people think and how to let that 'ish go.

Ep 139: Self trust + Rejection
lundi 5 décembre 2022 • Duration 21:55
Self-trust is something I talk about a lot with my clients.
Without it, you are forever wondering if you are doing enough, doing it right, or if so and so really likes you.
You become indecisive and ultimately drive yourself insane.
And sometimes you get hit with a, "You weren't trusting yourself again", lesson or reminder.
In this week's episode, I share with you a recent experience where I didn't trust myself, why, and what the outcome was.
