जिस विशाल खालीपन को हम शिव कहते हैं, वह सीमाहीन है, शाश्वत है। मगर चूंकि इंसानी बोध रूप और आकार तक सीमित होता है, इसलिए हमारी संस्कृति में शिव के लिए बहुत तरह के रूपों की कल्पना की गई। गूढ़, समझ से परे ईश्वर, मंगलकारी शंभो, बहुत नादान भोले, वेदों, शास्त्रों और तंत्रों के महान गुरु और शिक्षक, दक्षिणमूर्ति, आसानी से माफ कर देने वाले आशुतोष, स्रष्टा के ही रक्त से रंगे भैरव, संपूर्ण रूप से स्थिर अचलेश्वर, सबसे जादुई नर्तक नटराज, आदि। यानी जीवन के जितने पहलू हैं, उतने ही पहलू शिव के बताए गए हैं।  आम तौर पर दुनिया के ज्यादातर हिस्सों में, जिस चीज को लोग दैवी या ईश्वरीय मानते हैं, उसे अच्छा ही दर्शाया जाता है। लेकिन अगर आप शिव पुराण को ध्यान से पढ़ें, तो आप शिव की पहचान अच्छे या बुरे के रूप में नहीं कर सकते। वह सब कुछ हैं – वह सबसे बदसूरत हैं, वह सबसे खूबसूरत भी हैं। वह सबसे अच्छे और सबसे बुरे हैं, वह सबसे अनुशासित भी हैं, मगर पियक्कड़ भी। उनकी पूजा देवता, दानव और दुनिया के हर तरह के प्राणी करते हैं। हमारी तथाकथित सभ्यता ने अपनी सुविधा के लिए इन हजम न होने वाली कहानियों को नष्ट भी किया, मगर शिव का सार दरअसल इसी में है।  शिव की शख्सियत जीवन के पूरी तरह विरोधाभासी या विरोधी पहलुओं से बनी है। अस्तित्व के सभी गुणों का एक जटिल संगम एक ही इंसान के अंदर डाल दिया गया है क्योंकि अगर आप इस एक प्राणी को स्वीकार कर सकते हैं, तो समझ लीजिए आप पूरे जीवन से गुजर चुके हैं। जीवन के साथ हमारा सारा संघर्ष यही है कि हम हमेशा यह चुनने की कोशिश करते हैं कि क्या सुंदर है और क्या नहीं, क्या अच्छा है और क्या बुरा। लेकिन अगर आप इस एक शख्स, जो जीवन की हर चीज का एक जटिल संगम है, को स्वीकार कर सकते हैं, तो आपको किसी चीज से कोई समस्या नहीं होगी।

Shrimad Bhagwat, also known as Bhagwat Purana, is one of the greatest Puranas in Hinduism. It is the most sacred book of Hindus and is highly revered by the devotees of Lord Vishnu. It is a book about Narayana, his avatars and the detailed account of Lord Krishna.

Written by Rishi Vyasadeva, the book consists of eighteen thousand verses, which are presented, in twelve cantos. It is believed that Shukha Mahamuni (Son of Ved Vyas) narrated Bhagwat Purana during sarpayaag performed by King Parikshit (grandson of Arjuna). This ancient book is comprised of Mahabharata (Krishna avatar), Ramayana (Rama avatar), and Narasimha avatar of Lord Vishnu among others.

Bhagwat Purana consists of twelve books (skandhas) with 332 chapters (Adhyayas). There are between 16,000 and 18,000 verses depending on the recension.

  • Attain the wisdom equivalent of studying the eighteen Puranas
  • Attain solace in the foot of Lord Krishna
  • Ensure overall prosperity and happiness of your family
  • Get rid of all your sins
  • Ensure longevity in the family
  • Ensure good health for your family
  • Come over the cycle of birth and death (Achieve salvation)
  • Ensure good luck and success in every sphere of life
  • Enjoy the boons equivalent of donating 1000 cows
  • Seek freedom from jurisdiction of Maa Kali

Bhagwat Purana consists of twelve books (skandhas) with 332 chapters (Adhyayas). There are between 16,000 and 18,000 verses depending on the recension.
