Episode #7: Known For The Glass with Daniel Silva (Zenan Glass) + Adin Wener (Henderson Brewing) | The Business of Beer

Season 8 · Episode 7

mercredi 18 septembre 2024Duration 03:27:34

This might be a podcast-first: seven custom-designed and printed glasses just for this episode. Glassware is arguably the most important element of craft beer as it's the actual vessel through which we get to experience it, yet it rarely obtains the shine it so glaringly deserves. Tonight, we fix that. Dan of Zenan, the largest glassware company in Canada, and Adin of Henderson Brewing, join Cee and Nate to chat about the importance of glassware across the board, Zenan's decorating capabilities, how they work closely with the craft brewing industry to get them what they need (even in a tight turnaround), the importance of relationships with breweries and suppliers, the different types of printing on glassware, why different glasses work with specific beer styles, festival glassware, the upcoming Henderson "Toronto In 100 Beers" book, and why there aren't as many "flagship" glasses these days. They get into some gems from Henderson, in the custom-made BAOS glassware (thanks to Dan!): Rush Canadian Light Lager, The Amazing Randi Hazy Pale Ale (Ides 99), Radicle Hopfenweisse, Rube Goldbeer Belgian Tripel, Stock Ale (Ides 100), X-1 (Rush Xanabrew II) Belgian-Style Black Ale, and Best Amber Ale. This was spectacular - cheers!

Episode #6: What If The Beer Sucks? with Michael Gray (Gather Brewery & Glassworks) + Alexander Chramow (Lovebird Snack Club) | The Business of Beer

Season 8 · Episode 6

mercredi 11 septembre 2024Duration 02:58:28

Independent bottle shops were one of the biggest wins from the pandemic for Ontario craft beer drinkers, and in this latest episode of The Business of Beer, we catch up with two bottle shops x contract breweries that approached it completely differently. Michael of Gather Brewery & Glassworks and Alexander of Lovebird Snack Club joined Cee and Nate to chat about the logistics and challenges of opening a bottle shop in Ontario, why it's so difficult to maneuver around the laws, the benefits and downsides of both approaches (starting a contract brewery then a bottleshop vs starting a bottleshop then a contract brewery), the limitations of contract brewing, working with the LCBO, the bureaucracy of alcohol sales in Ontario, how it works with licensees, and their future plans for their beers. The fellas delivered a killer lineup of crispies for the pod: Lovebird Good Things Rice Lager, Gather Dam Good Lager American Lager, Lovebird x Emmer's Proof Sourdough Helles Lager, and Gather Big Pants Pilsner Czech-style Pilsner. This was fascinating - cheers!

Episode #174: We're All Gonna Die with Marc-André Filion of Messorem Bracitorium | Adjunct Series

Season 9 · Episode 174

mercredi 29 mai 2024Duration 03:23:39

While Quebec was slow to enter and embrace the haze game, they've delivered on a level that has made the province some of the best producers of the style in the country. Montreal's Messorem Bracitorium opened in the summer of 2019 and the fanfare was immediate - clearly the hazeboiz and hazegirlz were ready for something local that paralleled their US faves. Co-Founder and Graphic Designer Marc-André joined Cee and Nate to chat about what's been happening since Messo's last podcast appearance in early 2020, how their lager program has become a massive part of the business, why their attention to detail has made them who they are, the pushback they received from local breweries, how important their merch has been to the brand, how they've upgraded their space and created one of the best patios in the city, and how they've been building their name internationally via collabs and festivals. They got into Il Fut Un Temps: Indulgent Mexican Lager, Il Était Une Fois : Sécheresse Helles Lager, Destin Certain IPA, and Temporalis #0017 Double IPA. Such a fire chat - cheers!

Episode #100: Selling Inspiration with Zack Weinberg + Justin Ross of Toronto Brewing | Adjunct Series

Season 9 · Episode 100

jeudi 2 juin 2022Duration 02:33:53

We made it to a century, y'all! The Adjunct Series is going strong, and we're stoked to celebrate our 100th episode of this series by hanging out with the team behind Toronto Brewing. Cee and Scott shopped at Toronto Brewing when it was operating out of founder Zack Weinberg's home in their homebrew days back in 2011, so this was a great full-circle moment. During the pandemic, Zack opened a second location on Geary St in Toronto that's also home to their independent bottle shop. Joined by Justin Ross (who runs the bottle shop), they chatted about the importance of independent beer stores in Ontario, how they cater to homebrewers via sorting their product by the ingredients used, and whether Irish Reds and Belgian beers are still popular. They cracked open a Great Lakes x Godspeed Hydration Helles Lager, Town x Fine Balance's Symbiosis Oat Cream IPA, Brouwerij der Sint-Benedictusabdij de Achelse Kluis's Achel 8° Bruin, and Short Finger's Hack Barleywine. Cheers, and thanks for rocking with us!
