Recently, I had the privilege of participating in an incredibly informative training with the Soul of Yoga for my Yoga Therapist Certification. This training taught us all about brain development and regulating our nervous system through yoga. Part of the training was led by Yoga Therapist, Shawnee Thornton Hardy. Shawnee is the author of Yoga Therapy for Children and Teens with Complex Needs and the founder of Asanas for Autism and Special Needs. Throughout this training, I learned SO much about the autism spectrum and sensory processing challenges. In this episode, I share with you the challenges these children and adults may have with their ability to navigate the world with ease and comfort. I also provide ways to start feeling embodied and safe again through yoga practices such as breathwork, meditation, visualization, and asanas.
I hope that this episode opens all of our eyes and brings more awareness to what all children need from their caregivers to co-regulate and how we all have the ability to self-regulate and heal ourselves and our nervous systems through yoga. These powerful principles have revolutionized our life by guiding us towards a state of true liberation.
Throughout our lives, we form agreements and attachments based on our experiences, societal beliefs and other's projected opinions. The source of all of our suffering is caused by the attachments that we hold to these agreements. Learning how to let these go and replacing them with The Four Agreements is how we ultimately find liberation and freedom from suffering in the mind. The four agreements are:
- Be impeccable with your word
- Don't take anything personally
- Don't make assumptions
- Always do your best
In this episode, we also explore the parallels between these agreements and the ancient practice of yoga. Discover how yoga serves as a gateway to help us understand universal truths and unraveling the stories and perceptions we attach to our experiences. By embracing non-attachment, we learn to exist with what is as it arises, without reacting. What began as a simple stretching exercise has evolved into a profound practice that allows me to quiet my mind, gain insight into my true self and live more authentically. This has now led me to take the first steps towards becoming a Certified Yoga Teacher with a rigorous 200 hour training through My Vinyasa Practice!
In this episode, I explain the purpose and goal of yoga which is to unite us with the truth of who we are- something often obscured by our perceptions. Yoga teaches us to non-judgementally question our perceptions and release attachments that are producing suffering.
I also provide an insider's view of the program I've chosen, My Vinyasa Practice. I share essential details such as pricing, a breakdown of the 200 hour curriculum and the many learning lab opportunities. I highlight the assessments necessary for certification and explain why I selected this particular program.

Whether you're trying to get back into your mindfulness practices after being on vacation or you're still working to start these practices in the first place, make sure to listen to the ENTIRE episode!
In this episode, we learn about cognitive diffusion (aka diffusion) which is the "ability to separate from your thoughts and to let them come and go, instead of getting caught up in them, or allowing them to dictate what you do." This is a core component of mindfulness and allows us to create space between ourselves as individuals and our thoughts.
The goal of this episode and of the 10 minute guided meditation (and mindfulness in general) is to develop the ability to let go of problematic thoughts through practicing cognitive diffusion. Use this meditation not only in times of distress, but also as a skill building exercise to strengthen your mindfulness muscle.
