Synergy Music Therapy & Wellness Services was co-founded in June 2021 by certified music therapists Hayley Francis Cann and Kimberly Dolan. Synergy MT began offering services in only two locations and has since expanded, with four in-person locations across Bermuda & Canada (Kingston,ON; Hamilton,ON; and Montreal,QC). Synergy MT provides high quality music therapy services, wellness resources, and professional development opportunities for music therapists, interdisciplinary professionals and community members.

Paul Lauzon is a Québec born poet, songwriter, performer and practicing music therapist for over 39 years. His work has focused on exploring the many interconnections of sound and sense and of music and words. As a clinical music therapist, he has worked with individuals in all stages of life from pre-natal to palliative care. His peer-reviewed articles have appeared in several international music therapy journals.
His new book 'When Music Happens' is a personal, philosophical, and scholarly look into the poetry of music.

Jason is happiest when screaming into dented microphones and playing guitar like it’s a percussion instrument.

In this week’s episode of Able Voice Podcast we are joined by Jay Fillion to talk a little bit about the world of music technology. Jay shared a bit of his musical journey from how he has always engaged with music and songwriting, to his work within corrections, to how he is connecting with music tech and recording since retiring.
Jay Fillion has recently retired after a varied 28+ year career in the criminal justice field, primarily as a counsellor and program facilitator. During his career, a highlight was helping to start a music program with the incarcerated women at Grand Valley Institution for Women. Since then, Jay has been exploring the world of recording, producing, and living life with the saying, “what would I do if I wasn’t afraid?”
We hope this episode provides you with some tools and insights to support your own journeys, and helps encourage you to set aside some of your hesitations and jump right in!

Miya Adout founded Miya Music Therapy in 2015 based on her vision to improve patient quality of life in healthcare settings throughout Ontario. Miya is a graduate of Concordia University where she received a Master of Arts in Creative Arts Therapies after having completed a BA in Cultural Studies. Miya works with individuals of all ages and abilities including with parents and infants, adolescents with autism, and seniors living with dementia. Miya is passionate about educating the public about the impact of music therapy through engaging presentations and workshops. Miya also sits on the board of the Music Therapy Association of Ontario, provides business coaching to healthcare entrepreneurs, and has created Connect 2 Music Therapy, an online global magazine for music therapists. When she's not providing music therapy or business coaching, Miya enjoys spending time with her toddler, spending time in nature, and practicing photography!
Mackenzie Costron’s journey is shaped through work as a Certified Music Therapist (MTA) and Registered Counselling Therapist (RCT) where she uses music and storytelling to bring hope, love and light into people’s lives. Mackenzie is also grateful to be the Owner and Founder of Find Your Voice Music Therapy with locations in Katarokwi/ Kingston, Ontario and K’jipuktuk/ Halifax, Nova Scotia. There she works with a team of heart-centered therapists where they strive to unite in love, hold safe space, and empower community. Mackenzie is beyond grateful to be in loving service as Co-Founder of Costron + Co alongside Jacquie Costron. Her training as a Licensed Heart Centered Facilitator and Fire Starter Sessions Facilitator, through Danielle Laporte, informs her work. She is passionate about supporting individuals through the development of their therapeutic, creative, health, wellness business. To shine their beautiful light and share their gifts with community.
Danielle Nicholls, BMT, MTA, is the owner and operator of Dolce Music Therapy, and is an accredited music therapist in good standing with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists. She completed her Bachelor of Music Therapy from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2016, where she studied voice. She graduated with Honours-with Distinction, and a minor in Psychology. After graduation, she completed her internship in the Hamilton/Burlington area, focusing on music therapy in palliative/hospice care, and long-term care settings. Since moving to Ottawa in 2017, she has been continuing to work with seniors and adults in mental health and dementia care. Using a client-centered and music-centered approach, Danielle incorporates her vocal training and guitar skills to focus on clients’ abilities and meeting them in the moment. She is passionate about using music to help people connect with each other and themselves.
We are excited for you to dive into this insightful discussion answering the following questions: What skills and tools are useful when transitioning from a creative mindset to a business/entrepreneur mindset? Can both mindsets still co-exist? Why is it important to understand your professional identity when deciding to start a private practice? What advice might you give people afraid of taking the step to start their own private practice? What have you learned during that experience?
