This week im chatting I'm chatting to Tod Bowers. In 1998 he helped form The Steepwater Band along with Jeff Massey& Joseph Winters, and over 20 years released 6 studio albums, 2 live albums, a few EPs and numerous singles. Steepwater notoriously known as road-dogs, performed well over 2,500 gigs worldwide, including supporting amazing artists like ZZTop, Gov’t Mule, Wilco, Buddy Guy, Drive-By Truckers, T-Model Ford, Bad Company, Leon Russell, Blackberry Smoke and Taj Mahal. In 2019 he parted ways from Steepwater, and quickly was recruited by Manx-born musician Davy Knowles for his band. Shortly after Tod joining the group, Davy was signed by Mascot Label Group/Provogue Records. This week I'm chatting to Watford native Simon Francis who has been living in Belfast for the last few years. He spent 8 years touring the world with Ellie Goulding and also held down the low-end in Kyle Minogue's band for a year. He is often cited in lists of the world's greatest-tone alchemists such as Tim Lefebvre, Janik Gwizdala, and Steve Lawson. This was a brilliant chat and I was schooled on this effects stuff and really enjoyed hearing about Simons's bass journey. This week we're having a Metallica Bass special to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of the Black album. This week I'm chatting to Jake Gerba a fantastic funk bass player who is known for his viral videos and as Jason Momoa's ( Aquaman) bass tutor. We chat about his bass beginning, going viral, making content for brands and his excellent debut album Milky Way Moon Juice. Bio: Jake Gerba is a bassist from western Pennsylvania that has made a name for himself on social media through his entertaining and energetic videos. He began playing the bass at age 13 and soon started to play at his local church where he learned to develop his skills. Now with a worldwide online audience, he continues to showcase his funk bass playing inspired by the likes of Louis Johnson, Bernard Edwards, Bootsy Collins, and Flea. Jake has also produced and recorded a solo album, made an appearance at NAMM, worked with various big name companies within the music industry, and even jammed with actor and fellow bass enthusiast Jason Momoa. No matter what he’s doing, Jake’s mission remains the same: to uplift people through the power and joy of music.
