Fireside
Irelands premier and award winning Metal Music Podcast. The Metal Cell Podcast sets out to promote the Irish Metal Scene by talking to the bands, promoters, artists and fans of this musical genre. I hope to interview as many generations as possible involved in the Irish Metal community from those who create the music, design the artwork, promote the gigs or simply fans of the music itself. It's one of the most exciting times ever to be a Metal fan in Ireland with so many home grown and international metal bands touring our cities and releasing incredible music. This Podcast has become a solid link in communicating our voices throughout the world wide Metal community. The bonds forged in the Metal Scene are strong, loyal and lasting. Friendships created that traverse oceans and continents, which saw the podcast charting in Europe, the America's, and Asia. Episode 324: Idle Discourse: Craig (Vocals) & Donal (Drums) talk to me about their latest release 'Volume 2' and many more topics in relation to the band.

Épisode 324

jeudi 19 décembre 2024Durée 56:39

I was delighted to be joined by Craig (Sea High) Hosey (Vocals) and Donal Bowens (Drums) of Idle Discourse to the podcast. The band are tearing up the Metal rule book by incorporating a huge amount of diverse influences and styles to create their own strange brew to intoxicate the punters. Their videos show a band that are creatively connected with their audience and with the release of their excellent 'Volume 2', I couldn't wait to catch up with Idle Discourse to chat about a huge year stamping their mark on the Irish music scene. Craig and Donal fill me in on the formation of the band, how they approach songwriting and of course we have plenty of banter along the way. Hope you enjoy this last episode of 2024 as much as I did. Idle Discourse play Dublin's, Workmans Club on December 19th to wrap up the year! Idle Discourse link: https://www.idlediscourse.band Songs played: Caveat © Idle Discourse, all rights reserved. Episode 315: Worn Out: Cork-based noise merchants Xander, Alex, Brian & Evan of Worn Out talk to me about 'Low' their incredible new ep release.

Épisode 315

vendredi 27 septembre 2024Durée 47:43

Cork-based noise merchants WORN OUT have self released their sophomore EP, LOW to huge critical acclaim on August the 30th. The EP follows the release of single "Deeper" in July, and comes alongside the announcement of a headline run across Ireland later in 2024, with support from Grief Ritual and Lure In. LOW sees WORN OUT embrace the aggressive, abrasive and chaotic aspect of their metallic sound, as well as delving deeper into the more atmospheric side hinted at on their previous releases. Mixed by Joe Clayton and mastered by Sam Bloor, with the band taking on the majority of the recording themselves, the four-track EP combines a broad range of influences; clashing melody, dissonance & heavy rhythms with a scathing vocal delivery. I met up with the band in Dali, Cork where they will be doing the EP launch with Lure in on November the 9th. We talk about the recording of the EP, we talk about the differences in Worn Out since I last interviewed them for their previous EP 'Waste' and the tour schedule/plans for the next few months. Episode 225: Slung From A Tree: Aaron (Vox/Guitars) & Eoghan (Bass) discuss their debut LP 'Voyage Into Cosmos' which is out on 20/04/23.

Épisode 225

vendredi 21 avril 2023Durée 01:05:16

It was a pleasure to welcome back Aaron Loughnane (Vox/Guitars) & Eoghan Galligan (Bass) of sludge/stoner band Slung From A Tree. The four piece which is made up of fellow members; Andrew Hayes (Drums) Steve Loughnane (Guitars) have finally got their debut release out called 'Voyage Into Cosmos' on the Cursed Monk Records label. Trying to capture Slung From A Trees live sound was always going to take time whilst recording and operating on a shoestring budget. Aaron, who produced the entire album has worked a minor miracle with their debut. He has moulded and twisted this slab of molten metal which contains crushing cosmic forces, swirling wormholes and stellar musical abandonment into a seven track LP aptly titled 'Voyage Into Cosmos'. Myself and Howard get walked through the process by the lads and naturally get completely lost but it's a wonderful journey to get to in this particular podcast. Please support Slung From A Tree by heading over to the link below and buying the album, merch etc. If you enjoyed this podcast please 'SUBSCRIBE' to The Metal Cell YouTube channel. Episode 224: War Of Attrition: Nathan (Vocals) & Ocean (Guitars) talk about their new ep 'The Social Apocalypse', an impressive 12 months of gigging and working on new material.

Épisode 224

vendredi 14 avril 2023Durée 56:08

It was a pleasure to welcome Nathan (Vocals) & Ocean (Guitars) of War Of Attrition to the show. The band play a ferocious mixture of thrash, groove and gritty metal that hits all the sweet spots especially when witnessed live. I caught up with the lads just before they do their debut EP launch of 'The Social Apocalypse' in their favourite city, Limerick. Having blasted their way through a serious amount of gigs during 2022, War Of Attrition are perfectly poised to have another impressive year building on the following they have on these shores and are prepping for an new album further down the line. All of this is covered and many more topics are addressed by Nathan and Ocean on this episode. I was delighted once again to welcome John Real of Bad Reputation/Siege of Limerick onto the show, joining John was Jamie Clarke, vocalist with Razor Sharp Death Blizzard from Edinburgh, Jack O'Neill, guitarist with Coroza and Daniel Howard, vocals/guitars with Partholón/Magnapinna. We take a look at the line up of Siege MMXXIII, discuss the debate on merchandise vs venues taking percentages of sales (Siege takes none!), talk about what bouncers are not going to tolerate at the Siege, an insight into Corozas and Razor Sharp Death Blizzards sets and of course plenty of great Siege stories to keep everyone entertained. Episode 222: Words That Burn: Roni & Jason talk about their brilliant new release 'Cut Throat Culture' and share some insights into the recording & song writing process of the album.

Épisode 222

vendredi 31 mars 2023Durée 01:05:13

It was a pleasure to welcome back Roni MacRuairi (Vocals) & Jason Christy (Drums) of Words That Burn to the podcast. The four piece from Dundalk which also feature Ger Murphy (Bass) and Shane Martin (Guitars/Synths) have released a blistering follow up to Pyres which came out in 2019. 'Mixed and mastered by Josh Schroeder [Lora Shore, King 810], ‘Cut Throat Culture‘ sees the rising Irish four-piece embrace a variety of styles that range from alternative, to metal-core, and electronic fusion, creating a body of work that, if anything, is totally unique to the bands core sound, as well as being a landmark release for contemporary Irish Metal.' [email protected] 'Cut Throat Culture' dropped on March 16th, via Blood Blast Distribution/Believe Digital so it was a perfect time to catch up with Roni & Jason to talk about what the release means to them, we get some insights into the recording and song writing process and of course future plans for the band. Episode 220: Grey Stag: Matt (Bass/Vocals), Steve (Riffs) & Daragh (Drums) do a track by track preview of their incredible debut album 'Call of the Mountain'

Épisode 220

vendredi 17 mars 2023Durée 01:24:51

It was a pleasure to welcome sludge merchants, Steve (Riffs), Matt (Bass/Vocals) & Daragh (Drums) of Grey Stag to the podcast, their debut album 'Call of the Mountain' drops on St.Patricks Day. 'Grey Stags raw and stony dark riffs and crushing percussions seem to interweave and rumble through each and every knot that Colin Bolger of Dabulga Design carves into paper, becoming an aural tapestry of groove and folklore, all underpinned by thickened sludge and relentless energy. Grey Stag unearths the imagination and power of our deep rooted celtic heritage and battle hardy bloodline, raising the bar for Irish metal here at home, and ultimately, further afield.' Pat O' of The Smashing Skull Sessions. Myself and Danielle get an exclusive track by track preview of the album and of course there's plenty of other insights with the lads to keep you interested and amused. This is going to be one of the best Irish Metal releases in 2023 so check out Grey Stags link that I've posted below to make the essential purchase. Hope you enjoyed the show and all I ask is for you to 'SUBSCRIBE' to The Metal Cell YouTube channel to avail of more content like this. Thanks Richie. Episode 219: Ropemaker: Dave Slattery (Guitars/Bass/Composer) of instrumental Tech Metal band Ropemaker with Rory Guyett (Drums) ex-Ilekus, talk about 'Interwoven', Daves solo debut LP.

Épisode 219

vendredi 10 mars 2023Durée 01:19:11

It was a pleasure to welcome Dave Slattery of instrumental Tech Metal band Ropemaker to the show. Dave, a multi-instrumentalist enrolled the talents of former Ilenkus drummer Rory Guyett for an instrumental album that's laden with huge slabs of riffs and unpredictable arrangements. 'Interwoven' is Ropemakers debut LP and certainly caused a stir in the Irish Metal Scene, myself and Danielle have a brilliant chat with Dave & Rory about song composition, life as a solo artist and an in depth look at how Ropemaker came into fruition. Dave is yet another great addition to the incredible solo artists out there in our Irish Metal Scene. Check out his Bandcamp page in the link below and support it if you like what you heard on the show.
