About Guest:
Madeleine Hamann is a PhD oceanographer turned regenerative entrepreneur and co-founder of PACHA, a company reimagining bread through sprouted, sourdough buckwheat loaves and tortillas. After years studying climate change, Maddie realized that knowledge alone wouldn’t solve the crisis — action would. She left academia to build a business that nourishes both people and planet, leveraging the healthy-eating market to accelerate farmers’ transitions to regenerative agriculture. Drawing on her diverse background in civil engineering, ocean science, project management, and creative production, Maddie scaled PACHA from a homegrown idea to six-figure monthly revenue in under a year. A self-described “renaissance woman,” she brings systems thinking, adaptability, and a deep sense of purpose to every project she touches. Maddie’s work embodies the belief that true sustainability starts at the intersection of food, community, and ecological regeneration.

BONUS: The Future of Nutrition: Harnessing the Power of Algae for Health and Sustainability | Forever Young Features Professor Isaac Berzin

vendredi 1 mars 2024Durée 45:26

This bonus episode is a comprehensive discussion from the Forever Young podcast's 500th episode, featuring hosts Kelly Cappasola, co-host Corinna Bellizzi, and special guest Professor Isaac Berzin. The episode focuses on the importance of algae in nutrition, particularly its role in producing Omega-3 fatty acids and its environmental benefits.

Professor Berzin discusses his work with algae, emphasizing its efficiency in CO2 fixation and its potential as a sustainable and nutrient-rich food source. He explains how algae, specifically microalgae, are capable of producing essential amino acids and fatty acids without the agricultural waste associated with traditional crops. Berzin shares fascinating facts about algae, including its role in producing most of the Earth's oxygen and Omega-3s, commonly misconceived as originating from fish.

The conversation shifts to the cultivation methods and the unique advantages of growing algae in a controlled, technology-driven environment. Berzin details the integration of algae cultivation with a geothermal power plant in Iceland, highlighting the environmental and economic benefits of this approach, which enables carbon-negative production.

The discussion also covers the nutritional advantages of algae-derived Omega-3s over traditional fish oil, focusing on bioavailability and the absence of contaminants. Berzin and Bellizzi elaborate on the potential of spirulina, another algae, particularly its high protein content and the ability to produce active forms of Vitamin B12, comparing its nutritional value to beef without the environmental drawbacks.

The episode concludes with future plans for ÖRLÖ Nutrition, including the development of products that utilize algae's nutritional benefits in accessible and environmentally friendly ways. Kelly and Corinna emphasize the importance of sustainable, science-based nutrition solutions and the role of algae in supporting both human health and environmental sustainability.

Overall, the episode provides a deep dive into the science of algae as a superfood and a sustainable resource, showcasing its potential to revolutionize nutrition and environmental conservation.

Reconnecting Earth And Soul Amid Climate Chaos With Leah Rampy

Épisode 176

mercredi 28 février 2024Durée 48:01

As the climate chaos continues to worsen, our disconnect with the earth and soul is slowly becoming the norm. If not addressed at once, it will lead to even bigger and irreversible problems. Leah Rampy, a professor, leadership consultant, and corporate/nonprofit executive, leads the charge in reweaving earth and soul back together – before it is too late. Joining Corinna Bellizzi, she shares how to go beyond conventional American wisdom to create perfect solutions to the environmental problems we face right now without messing up the natural order of things. They also discuss how to guide the younger generations on the right way to approach climate chaos and get rid of consumerism through the smallest adjustments to their perspectives and lifestyles.

About Guest:

After giving numerous presentations on the dangers of impending climate change, Leah Rampy became convinced that something was missing from the conversations. With experience as a teacher, professor, corporate and nonprofit executive, and leadership consultant, she began a decades-long journey to understand what lies beneath our unwillingness to change our interactions with the natural world. Her growing commitment to reweaving soul and Earth has been informed by leading over a dozen pilgrimages and many more retreats, extensive reading and research, her contemplative practice, and the wisdom of the living world. Leah lives in a cohousing community in Shepherdstown, WV, with her husband David. They have two adult children.
